New to mumsnet, terrified.

Anyone going?

If anyone has any questions about the local area, feel free to ask me! I know Newcastle very well Smile

EasterRobin · 30/03/2018 23:57

I've eaten cheese that was more frightening.

Lol Grin

DaisyDrip · 31/03/2018 00:08

@Trumpdump It's really changed since I lived there. I used to go to visit my mum up until she died 16 months ago but didn't have to go through the city center. My mind goes blank when anyone mentions the Bigg Market though. Wink

EverlastingLove · 31/03/2018 00:16

I believe in free speech but I remember when I was a medical student many years ago , a number of ancillary workers sacked some years ago for attending a National Front meeting !

AreYouTerfEnough · 31/03/2018 00:22

The NF are fascists though.

Winewinewinegin · 31/03/2018 00:30

Yes that's a million miles away from a group meeting to discuss women's rights.

GinAndSonic · 31/03/2018 01:08

Disclaimer: I have blue hair and bad dress sense but I still know the difference between men and women Grin

Tackytriceratops · 31/03/2018 06:03

Same here, I can give lots of info :)

It has changed a lot in the last 10-15 years.

I still mourn the loss of Planet Earth and the original World Head Quarters.

Redandorangeandyellow · 31/03/2018 08:11

I work for the NHS and I've just bought a ticket. We're quite short staffed so I think my jobs safe!

Vickxy · 31/03/2018 13:26

Thanks for bringing this meeting to my attention, I hope there are still tickets when I get paid.

Curious. I'm fairly nearby but the location just states Newcastle, does anyone know the precise venue?

Vickxy · 31/03/2018 18:19

Since that one incident at Speakers' Corner, there have not been any physical attacks on anyone attending or speaking.

Thats good to hear.

My husband still says he will attend with me though, both because he is interested in the topic and stands with women on this, and because he does not want me (or any woman) to be physically attacked and thinks that a male presence may deter these bullies a little.

AreYouTerfEnough · 31/03/2018 18:29

The precise venue won’t be confirmed until nearer the time, so TRAs won’t be able to turn up and prevent women from attending.

TolchockLovelyInTheLitso · 31/03/2018 18:35

Squee! I've been waiting for a Newcastle meeting. goes to buy ticket

chewablemunchkin · 31/03/2018 19:06

areyouterfenough thanks. That makes sense. I'm pretty new to mumsnet and still learning about all of this. It's been very enlightening. All hail mumsnet Smile

HerFemaleness · 21/05/2018 21:11

I'm getting excited!

LightofaSilveryMoon · 21/05/2018 23:42

I went to the Cardiff WPUK on my own. Such a wonderful feeling of women's solidarity! So glad I went!

Terfing · 22/05/2018 01:45

I live in Newcastle, but I can't make this meeting. If people decide to set up a local, regular Gender-critical Geordies group, can you invite me? Sad

Wanderabout · 22/05/2018 09:24

It will be fab. Jealous of all those going!

Summerhillsquare · 22/05/2018 09:54

I'm going. Also interested in a north east gender critical group.

NoseringGirl · 22/05/2018 10:11

I quite wanted to go along but can't make it either as I can't get childcare. I'd be interested if any other meet ups or events are organised as I'd like to learn more and think that talking to people in real life can sometimes be more helpful than reading on a screen.

Ekphrasis · 22/05/2018 13:15

Oooh I used to live there Summer :)

IAmSproutycus · 22/05/2018 18:28

I'm going and will be heading in from either near the RVI or Haymarket if anyone else wants to travel in together. I'm not sure how you PM on this, so if you want to meet up, please tell me on this board how to check my PMs!

IAmSproutycus · 22/05/2018 18:29

Happy to talk about arranging a Newcastle feminist group separate to this if folks are interested. I'm aware of existing groups, but there may be an appetite for something else too?
