New to mumsnet, terrified.

Anyone going?

OP posts:
Terfragette69 · 30/03/2018 21:03

I don't think the op Is remotely genuine and was actively trying to scare monger. There is nothing to fear from some posh kids who couldn't fight their way out of their own arses!

DaisyDrip · 30/03/2018 21:10

Sadly Terfragette69 I suspect you may be right. Sad

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 30/03/2018 21:18

TRAs have attempted to identify the location of these meetings by befriending attendees on MN I understand - hence the wariness.

You may well be genuine, and if so bloody well done for getting a ticket and going, I understand your apprehension considering what’s happened over the past few months but please do go, I was at the Cambridge one and it was fantastic.

If you’re not genuine then do fuck off 😀

Terfragette69 · 30/03/2018 21:20

It's a good tactic, in principle, make us scared for our jobs and of violence.....they underestimate us however, they always do.

AreYouTerfEnough · 30/03/2018 21:29

I’ve just bought my ticket.

AreYouTerfEnough · 30/03/2018 21:30

And I’m a Geordie so if anyone tries to duff me up, god help them Grin

Tackytriceratops · 30/03/2018 21:32

Oh dear. Shame op didn't stick around (I'm trying not to be too suspicious!)

I'd love to go to this except I'll probably have a week old baby and be post elcs.

Is anyone going and could anyone do some sort of update while I cluster feed?

Will it be filmed as others are?

Honestly, I don't think there'll be any animosity in Newcastle. We are about 15 years behind everywhere else when it comes to things like this. I don't mean that in a derogatory way, just literally an observation of where society is at here. (Blissful ignorance of some things, ingrained sexism in the rest.)

(NC to post this though!)

Tackytriceratops · 30/03/2018 21:33

Do people who are actually going to the meeting maybe need a new one? Maybe something more...positive?

Good idea.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 30/03/2018 22:22

CertainHalfDesertedStreets

What do you mean??

I mean it is nice to have a nice thread where people say 'Oooh, I just got my ticket, anyone else going? Shall we meet in a pub?'

Rather than 'You're all DOOMED. HERE'S YOUR P45'

Terfragette69 · 30/03/2018 22:44

CertainHalfDesertedStreets

Ha ha it was a bit doom and gloom wasn't it?? P45 Grin... I Do think they will try to infiltrate meetings though..... Would be stupid thing to do though, with a room full of pissed off women.

GinAndSonic · 30/03/2018 23:00

I'm also going. Is there another thread with brown ale and pork pies? And less scaremongering?

Winewinewinegin · 30/03/2018 23:05

Why and how on earth would anyone lose their job for going to a WPUK meeting? It is a group of women meeting to discuss women's rights.

Don't worry about protestors, there are lots of other women about and no one has been attacked on the way in.

Winewinewinegin · 30/03/2018 23:07

In some jobs now if you say you are gender critical you could face dismissal ....

Which jobs? No employer can legally dismiss someone for holding perfectly reasonable, pro-women views, that's just silly.

Debinaround · 30/03/2018 23:11

It says on the website that you must have ID that matches the name on the ticket so how you going to sell your extra ticket OP?

GinAndSonic don't forget saveloy dipsGrin

Winewinewinegin · 30/03/2018 23:13

. I do think that given the way this stuff is spreading eg in local authorities, being seen as transphobic could be like being seen as a racist, and against equal opportunities policies

There is nothing transphobic about going to a meeting about women's rights.

"I'm not transphobic - I just disagree with you." - heroic firefighter Lucy Masoud.

Winewinewinegin · 30/03/2018 23:17

Also lol @ Certain:

I've eaten cheese that was more frightening. Honestly, go!

thebewilderness · 30/03/2018 23:20

There have been a few women who reported being called on the carpet for violating the EA by expressing discriminatory views about males who identify as women.
fairplayforwomen.com/misogyny_hate_silencing/#a5.2

AreYouTerfEnough · 30/03/2018 23:22

‘Transphobic’ is being used to shut down conversation about anything and everything.

“Do you want a cuppa?”

”Urgh, how can you ask me that you transphobe”

“I think I might go to Tesco on Tuesday”

”What? Only transphobes go to Tesco”

“My cat has a hernia”

”That’s because you’re a scummy transphobe”

Winewinewinegin · 30/03/2018 23:27

Agreed, and there is some odd stuff going on. But transphobia is used for a wide range of things including the utterly ridiculous (eg campaigning against FGM). Going to a WPUK meeting to discuss the impact of proposed legislation on women is a basic democratic right.

AreYouTerfEnough · 30/03/2018 23:27

Perhaps we could disguise ourselves in really ugly polyester prints and straw blonde wigs 🤔

thebewilderness · 30/03/2018 23:32

AreYouTerfEnough, so we could blend right in, eh? Brilliant.

Winewinewinegin · 30/03/2018 23:32

We need a t-shirt. Lucy Masoud quote on one side, transphobia checklist on the other:
Is this transphobic?
Boxes with ticks:
Calling for or conducting violence against trans people
Etc
Boxes with crosses:
speaking out against FGM?
Discussing women's rights?
Naming basic biological facts

Etc

DebbieInBirmingham · 30/03/2018 23:34

@Ingsoc ... I hope you feel able to go. I'm trans and I've been to three WPUK meetings. They are very supportive of trans people like me who are looking for solutions that protect trans rights without compromising women's rights.

AreYouTerfEnough · 30/03/2018 23:42

I’d rather wear a budgie tee shirt.

AreYouTerfEnough · 30/03/2018 23:46

Is bird related narcissism the next step for mans evolution?
