New to mumsnet, terrified.

Anyone going?

vicviking · 30/03/2018 19:13

Lol. Let's hope it snows then. Northern lasses will be out and no troublemakers will travel north of Derby Smile

Ingsoc · 30/03/2018 19:15

No problem. I've a ticket for sale if anyone wants it.

Ingsoc Don't be terrified and don't take the questioning to heart. MN gets 'ploppers' who just appear from nowhere, cause mayhem then leave. The idea I suppose is to divide and conquer. The posters here may have tough exteriors but most have marshmallow interiors. Grin

Speak for yourself lol..... I am solid hard nosed radical feminist all through........ Tra's beware.... I Do bite!

DaisyDrip · 30/03/2018 19:24

Terfragette69 I would expect nothing less, added to which TRA's deserve to be bitten Grin You're not going to bite someone like the OP who is on 'our side' once you realise and accept that though are you? lol

Terfragette69 · 30/03/2018 19:32

DaisyDrip

No, my bites are strictly reserved for tra's, and if the newbie is on our side they will only get fluffy cuddles and high fives......

Ingsoc · 30/03/2018 19:35

terragette I'm new to mumsnet not to radical feminism.

Ingsoc

Then welcome Flowers, lots of excellent discussion on here to be had!

Trumpdump · 30/03/2018 19:40

I'm from this area, but I can't make this meting. That said, Newcastle is a very safe city. If a man attacked a woman in the street ( like Speakers Corner), I am sure that bystanders would step in.

All of the trans people I know in the region are against self-id. They are much more old-school.

I realize that I'm generalizing of course, but I'm just trying to give a local perspective on things.

PlectrumElectrum · 30/03/2018 19:47

I've been to 2 meetings. 1st had a last minute venue and we were able to get in & out at a different entrance to the very small but noisy protesters. The 2nd, there were police there when we arrived keeping the protesters 'in line' so again, noisy but kept apart. It was the same exiting.

It is nerve wracking but I'm sure the organisers let the police know well in advance so that they can attend to help maintain order. I highly recommend going as on both occasions the highlight for me was meeting, talking & connecting with other women, and feeling less isolated in my concerns.

I guarantee you'll leave feeling inspired & really determined to do more.

Ingsoc · 30/03/2018 19:48

No I am gone. Horrific welcome to an older rad fem. I will not be replying any more. Sleep well "sisters"

I think our queries were valid. Your statements were very misleading and potentially damaging. Remember this issue is bigger than a mumsnet thread so if you are truly gender critical then hang onto your ticket.

Terfragette69 · 30/03/2018 20:07

Ingsoc

What?? I welcomed you and you've said your going 3 times now...... Fgs, if you have any awareness whatsoever you'd understand why we are being reticent, tra's are spying on us!!

Terfragette69 · 30/03/2018 20:08

I'm fact now I'm even more sure of my spider senses tingling..... "sister's"......

AsAProfessionalFekko · 30/03/2018 20:13

Was it a budgie?

HerFemaleness · 30/03/2018 20:17

I've got my ticket, can't wait.

LangCleg · 30/03/2018 20:24

No problem. I've a ticket for sale if anyone wants it.

Hmm.

No offence, Ingsoc, but you went from "I'm terrified" to "how dare you not rush to welcome me" to "I have a ticket if you give me your private details" in ten seconds flat.

If you know enough to worry about your job, you also know enough to work out that women here are leery of infiltrating TRAs who want to doxx them.

"sisters"

Sorry, but that's what my son would call an oops what a giveaway.

PositivelyPERF · 30/03/2018 20:27

Oh dear.

On the interwebs no one can tell if you are a potato, or a budgie.

Angryresister · 30/03/2018 20:52

I apologise if I made anyone not go to a meeting that actually I think is crucial about raising awareness of the issues involved . I do think that given the way this stuff is spreading eg in local authorities, being seen as transphobic could be like being seen as a racist, and against equal opportunities policies. Women need to be careful, but I absolutely think we should go to all these meetings and not be too scared...just aware.

PlonitbatPlonit · 30/03/2018 20:53

Tickets can be returned. I do hope that Ingsoc contacts woman's place UK for reassurance. They do everything they can to ensure safe, calm discussions can take place and all their meetings have gone ahead - mostly with no disruption or protest, or at most (I'm two cases) minimal protest of no consequence. There have been disgraceful attacks on women, including of a woman trade unionist on her own union's picket line. But these are rare and should not detract from the overall safety of these events. Many mumsnetters have come to wpuk events in anxious trepidation and have left not just relieved but feeling really positive about the event.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 30/03/2018 20:56

What a weird thread.

Do people who are actually going to the meeting maybe need a new one? Maybe something more...positive? Grin

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 30/03/2018 20:58

There were six young women in gold lame jumpers outside the London one. I've eaten cheese that was more frightening. Honestly, go!

Terfragette69 · 30/03/2018 21:00

CertainHalfDesertedStreets

What do you mean??

Lampage · 30/03/2018 21:02

It's worth noting that the TiM who punched the woman at speakers corner and the TiM who most aggressively verbally attacked the woman at the picket line is the same person.
