Red Annie, really not a class thing imo. It may be more cultural perhaps. And obviously blanket statements like mine aren't helpful as reality is more complex; it's just what I've observed over the last 22 years since I've been here, 17 of them working in schools around the area.

Tackytriceratops · 26/05/2018 16:19

Oooh they also do life drawing at that cafe at a reasonable time! Awesome!

Took me a while to get past that too, redannie.
Regionalism is just another style of tribalism that we are prone to.
I catch myself doing it to the academics. Then I have to roll my eyes at myself.Blush

First post. Huge lurker. Northumbria will be my university in September. I love how WPUK was given a platform there, free speech is so important. At my uni interview I seen the A4 print outs pinned to the disabled toilets, labelled 'gender neutral', the rest of the toilets were male or female to be fair. I'm really interested in feminism, more interested in how feminism has received a bad name, its gone from women wanting to be treated equal within the eyes of the law, to, I'm not even sure what has happened. I'm quite sure the suffragettes just wanted females to be treated like human beings, votes, equal pay etc, not to be tied to the kitchen sink and dominated. I'm quite confused at how, this got turned around to centering trans women. In my opinion they are nothing like women, at all, really, really wanting to be a woman, does not make you one?? I'm excited about starting uni and excited to learn. (meet new friends and get drunk and party too of course) I have already checked out the feminist groups. Seem very liberal. Hoping to offer/demand a new voice. That is all. Thank you all who post here for your knowledge. I feel and hope, women are rising again, its awesome!!

Daddy: all power to you as you go off to uni! So great to hear young GC feminists.

Can anyone remember what was said in the meeting about setting up a NE GC feminist group? I've asked WPUK for more info, but heard nothing back.

Terfing · 28/05/2018 15:46

I really want to be involved in a Geordie gender critical group. Smile

TolchockLovelyInTheLitso · 28/05/2018 15:52

Me too! The idea got the biggest cheer of the night.

Pratchet · 28/05/2018 16:18

I would happily live in a world run by geordie feminists, forever. No more elections Grin

dianjo · 28/05/2018 18:35

Hi - I'm one of the organisers of the WPUK meeting in Newcastle - have just been told about these posts...

Thanks to all who were at the meeting - WPUK will be messaging everyone with suggestions about keeping in touch - and maybe re-building the Womens Movement as Bea Campbell suggested!

There is an existing facebook group

"Defend Women's Rights! Gender Critical Group NE England"

It's open to women and men. It's an 'open' group in that you can find it and see the names of members - but in Facebook terms it's 'closed' - to avoid trolling. So you need to ask to join. There are also secret groups, women only. Some women need to be guarded about being known to be gender critical....

We will also be setting up a way of communicating for those who don't use Facebook.

Look forward to communicating with you all!

Diane

The discussion on the Chronicles Facebook page is lively, to say the least!

daddypigsnoexpert · 28/05/2018 21:56

Yeah for the Geordie gender critical group! count me in please.

TolchockLovelyInTheLitso · 29/05/2018 01:31

What's the general mood @DanaBarrett ? I was involved at the beginning but saw no point arguing with mansplainy men from the South. Why if you live 400miles away would you bother stirring up shite on the Chronicle page? I'm not poking my nose in about bin collections in East Sussex or somewhere, FFS

Terfing · 29/05/2018 03:45

@dianjo

I am not on Facebook, but I am happy to verify my identity in another way. Can you please update when you have set up s non-Facebook Geordie GC group? Smile

NoseringGirl · 29/05/2018 08:50

I couldn't make the meeting but would like to be involved in anything set up in the future. I'd also be interested in Facebook groups but am nervous about anything that would show up (so could only join secret ones).

I was reading the chronicle comments yesterday. I was also confused by the bloke from down south and why he was so determined to correct everyone Confused

Ekphrasis · 29/05/2018 18:32

Hi Di,

My only worry about joining the fb group is that you can see the names of who is in it (isn't it awful I'm afraid?!) ironically a couple of members share acquaintances / friends with me on fb. Which makes me feel happier in a way but I'm not 'out' as gc ok fb beyond sharing let toys be toys posts etc.
