Wow op which newspaper and what’s the story?

BingBongSong · 17/03/2018 13:20

YesitsaDebate, you are brave!

After umming and ahhing for a few days, I have finally shared to my FB page. I tested the water privately with two friends beforehand, to be met with resistance (worries about being seen as transphobic). But one friend signed the petition pretty quickly after I'd posted it.

My constituency has been static for a few days so I'm hoping there might be an increase. I wrote to my MP a couple of weeks ago but not hopeful of an answer.

Ihavesomeballs · 17/03/2018 13:22

I am sharing like no tomorrow on these subjects on Facebook and Twitter, we have to get this into the public domain!

NoSquirrels · 17/03/2018 13:22

I’m looking forward to admiring your pecs, Yes. Well done.

I really hope they feature the petition positively and not make it out to be hysterical/a joke/insert prejudiced women’s issue in right-wing press slant here.

YesItsADebate · 17/03/2018 13:27

CircleSquare it’s the Mail on Sunday doing the photos today. The Sunday Times did clothed photos yesterday.

Yep, identify as trans - no problem. Preferred pronouns - no problem.
Live free from discrimination and prejudice - no problem.

Deny my biology because it makes you - I don't think so.

Exactly this.

All the trans people I have ever met are just people wanting to get through their lives.
There seems to be this new group who are demanding that the world spins a different way just for them.

AstraiaLiberty · 17/03/2018 13:35

MrSlant I did when we had a signature in each of the London constituencies, so I say go for it Grin

Only a few grey ones left now - we just got West Tyrone!

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 17/03/2018 13:37

Good for you op. Extremely brave of you, thanks for taking a stand sister!

lenaperkins · 17/03/2018 13:39

Hi all, I have been sharing with a few friends at a time. Not brave enough to share on Facebook. I have also been trying to share with other groups - such as muslim women's groups on my twitter account. I am a bit disappointed that this is going more slowly than it should. I should also mention that The Sunday Times mag has carried an interview with US trans activist Sarah McBride. It's a very moving story ... and she comes across very different from the mad as badgers trans activists we have had to run the gauntlet of. Of course it doesn't alter the fact that self ID is crazy, but it normalises it and makes our lives harder in making others realise the unintended consequences of this law change ...

Woodwick · 17/03/2018 13:41

Can you sign this anonymously? I work in yhe public sector and not sure if I'm allowed to sign petitions to government.

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/03/2018 13:46

Your name is not revealed Woodwick. Just don't use a work computer.

MrSlant · 17/03/2018 14:37

BINGO for NI as well now Wales was first though so ner

I am the voice of maturity on this thread Blush

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 17/03/2018 14:39

Wow that's brilliant!! Good for Wales and NI!!👍👍👍🎉🎉🎉

Sittinonthefloor · 17/03/2018 14:53

I can't believe how low the numbers are ☹️. I shared on fb - no reaction at all. I don't think people have any idea about it at all, and/or assume that we are talking about people who've had surgery.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 17/03/2018 14:58

I think people are just utterly clueless and see it as just another random petition that has nothing to do with them. The parliament bit might put people off as well.Confused it is going slowly!!

WhoWants2Know · 17/03/2018 15:03

Are people maybe feeling more afraid to sign petitions like this, after the things that happened with the gofundme and the facebook group? I've heard stories of people being harassed at work or having personal information posted in public.

Ihavesomeballs · 17/03/2018 15:30

It really is getting very 1984...sick to death of it and if one more person calls me a transposition bigot I shall scream!!!!

BlackeyedSusan · 17/03/2018 15:42

auto correct is a bugger...

Ihavesomeballs · 17/03/2018 15:55

Stupid new phone!!! Transphobic obviously, my phone needs to get used to this word.

trickyboots · 17/03/2018 15:55

That was a good read by kristinajayne Harrison. Sorry if I've missed this in all the posts; In expectation of the petition reaching 10000, are "we" mumsnet, prepared and clear of our demands if /when government responds? I've had a prompt response from my mp- but he's ignored my request to share it here after replying in quick succession initially. It's basically along the lines of govt has no intention of removing equality act provisions and respectful debate will take place. I'm not convinced.

UpstartCrow · 17/03/2018 15:57

YesItsADebate Star

TheXXFactor · 17/03/2018 16:13

If the Mail and ST allow comments, we need to link to the petition, to raise awareness.

TheXXFactor · 17/03/2018 16:14

my phone needs to get used to this word

You appear to have a TERF phone, Ihavesomeballs - report yourself for re-education immediately Grin

LizzieSiddal · 17/03/2018 16:40

I too think the general public have no clue what is actually happening. This new law could just slip through and most people wouldn’t even know about it.

I’m so glad the press are picking it up, you’re a Star Yes. I really hope the numbers rise tomorrow after the press coverage.

AntiqueOlive · 17/03/2018 16:43

C'mon Airdrie and Shotts!
