Lord Patel/Karen Jones thread - anyone want to go to House of Lords to talk to Lord Patel

Does anyone remember this thread?

Well, I wrote to Lord Patel to ask him why he had invited a violent rapist and attempted murderer to talk to the House of Lords (about the rights of transgender people). He has invited me tot he House of Lords to share my concerns!

I am in shock. The dates he has sent I can't do, I am also sure there are other people who would do a far better job than me. Anyone fancy going in my place??

Great result! I work for an MP in Parliament so if you need any help with logistics on the day or with anything else, I’m happy to help.

Would you fancy taking a photo with him and sending a press release to a few newspapers? Would be a great way to get some publicity for the issue in a positive way. Happy to help with that too if you need Smile

Maybe it would be better to get Lord Patel "turfed" quietly, and see if he peaks/has peaked, before involving photographers and the press. A private chat to try to make him see beyond the bullshit.

Daturn have you got details of that meeting? I have decided I am going to try and go if I can juggle some work commitment - you have all given me the confidence (along with a host of FB friends!). But it would be great if there were two of us. I will PM you, just need to go to bed now.

I didn’t mean doing some PR in a negative way, more posting it to twitter in a “Really positive discussion about X, we talked about X etc”... and I can take some photos inside parliament too obviously. Anyway, just a thought!

Yes, sleep on it. I know it's nerve wracking. But we have the only qualifications needed, we are women.

Pick which ever date is good for you. If you want to make it the one that gives you more notice, do it.

I can swot up on the case. And gather as many stats as I can etc.

Anyone who has invited a rapist transwoman, clearly doesn't know the first thing about any of the issues.

So whatever information we give him, however brief a time we have, can only be good.

Twofalls if you decide to ask him about GRA and self-recognition, there was a meeting in Parliament about 6 months ago where Miranda Yardley and others spoke, I’ll try and dig out the notes in case you find them useful.

I don't know if this is relevant to mention in the midst of all of this, but has anyone in the government given any thought whatsoever to actual education/research. In following this ideology, what exactly will happen to biology in school at all levels? How will this cross borders in terms of science in the world? Will countries following this ideology become more backward in the field of science than other countries who do not ( seeing as no one will be able to discuss sex, reproductive organs, etc )

Sorry this prob sounds kind of muddled. I hope someone more eloquent can put this into words. I just think that this is yet another point that the government needs to consider in the big picture ( thought maybe not for this particular meeting ).
