Labour lose 3 points - ALL women leaving the party

goodyzoe · 11/02/2018 01:42

"The 3-point fall in the Labour share [in You Gov poll] is entirely explained by a 6-point fall among women (from 46% to 40%)"

CON 43 (+1)
LAB 39 (-3)
LD 8 (+2)

@jenniferjames says "Oh fucking hell. I broke the Labour party. :-( "

I've got very mixed feelings. On the one hand - go everyone! They'll have to take notice - surely?

But - Jesus Christ let's not let the Tories have another term.

But - we have to stick up for ourselves don't we.

Starting to think the people who say the rapid rise in TRA ideology is being fuelled by those who stand to benefit from a divided left might have a point. Sad

This:

I don't want to vote for anyone else but I will if I have to. 5 more Tory years is a horrendous prospect but it's better than women's rights removed in perpetuity (I won't be voting Tory either unless they are specific about being anti self-ID).

But also the more political pressure is put on this issue by seeing that it will lose women’s and ordinary people’s votes, the more parties will be pressured to look at the issues and the more leverage for changing the position on ALL parties. Even Labour, despite their bungee jumping into self ID ahead of the law approach from Corbyn, have said they are working on policy wording as senior MPs are concerned about ensuring MRAs don’t take advantage.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/02/2018 08:31

I'm glad I'm overseas right now and don't have to make the same decision, LangCleg. It would feel like spitting on the graves of my ancestors to vote Tory, but if the legal changes proposed in the GRA go through it could take generations to undo the damage.

AngryAttackKittens · 11/02/2018 08:33

I'm hoping there's still time to turn Labour around before the next election, but not seeing much hope so far unless Corbyn changes his mind, given the weird culty devotion he inspires among a lot of people.

LangCleg · 11/02/2018 08:38

It's certainly not good news for women, we're the ones who are most negatively affected by their austerity policies.

I know and understand this. But it's the difference between 5 years and forever, I'm afraid.

It would feel like spitting on the graves of my ancestors to vote Tory

And mine.

The clicky link doesn't work for me and I would like to share it - could you repost thank you

Fekko · 11/02/2018 08:42

Jesus Christ let's not let the Tories have another term.

The older I get the more cynical/reliant I get.

I’ve lived through enough Tory and Labour governments and to be honest, personally have been crapped on by both (as has the rest of the country).

I don’t see it as red vs blue anymore.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 11/02/2018 08:44

Labour won’t pay attention to these figures

For those who are running the party now (Momentum, Corbyn & McDonnell) it’s more important that Labour are what they consider the real Labour Party than being in power and being in a position to make changes than appeal to middle ground voters

Corbyn has always championed those HE sees as the underdog with a refusal to look at the bigger picture so he will do this with Trans issues what woman feel he won’t give a fuck about

The Tories will unite and sort themselves out by 2022 Brexit will continue to be a fuck up but it will be too late to do anything but hey the hard left still have control over the Labour Party and will still have crowds joining them at rallies so Corbyn and co will still be smugly in control of Labour

Patodp · 11/02/2018 08:44

Is there any actual evidence that these are women who have dropped support? Does it have a male/female analysis?
Clicky link does not work.

VanillaSugar · 11/02/2018 08:44

Can I join in the discussion?

This has been about Tory v Labour. Is the LibDem party completely written off then? I haven't really looked at the LibDem's policy towards women but my local candidate in last year's election was a woman who seemed pretty reasonable (she got hammered by the Tory Xxxxx round here).

Would anyone else consider voting LibDem? I'm open to all views.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/02/2018 08:44

Surely labour will have to pay attention now?

Why? They didn't when many left over anti-semitism which they are still doing nothing about.

Fekko · 11/02/2018 08:47

They didn’t bloody listen when we protested about following America into war in Iraq. The labour party was broken way back then.

Patodp · 11/02/2018 08:53

Lib Dems are pro self ID all the way.
They tweeted on the official page smugly
"We'd like to announce ALL women are welcome on our All Women Shortlists"
Make of that what you will.
They have supported TRAs in other ways too.

RedToothBrush · 11/02/2018 08:56

I think this wont result in women voting tory. They just wont vote.

Lds are also pro self id.

I need to have a good look at figures to see if its a stay at home effect or a defection effect though.

Corbyn is tone deaf to anything that not his pet project but others in Labour might get nervous if the trend continues.

For all the 'don't believe what the polls say' this is yougov who got their model spot on to the howls of other pollsters at the general election. And this isnt about an actual election this is about driving where the debate is going at the present time.

Working clicks link.

YTho · 11/02/2018 08:57

Yes please at least consider voting for lib dems. I don't know how any of us could choose to have another 5 years of the current mess on their conscience. Unless you really are a one issue person of course. Fair enough. Or you support tories for their many other magnificent policies. Again fair enough. At least you've considered other issues as well.

AmberTopaz · 11/02/2018 09:04

Another Lib Dem voter here. I think we have more chance of being listened to in a smaller party without the entrench misogyny of Labour and Tory. And they have the right idea on Brexit too.

Cheekyandfreaky · 11/02/2018 09:14

For those confused about voting, I have recently come across the Women’s Equality Party:
www.womensequality.org.uk

They are a single issue party like UKIP (I guess). Instead of a protest vote and spoiling your ballot, maybe voting for a party like this would send a signal to Westminster and MPs about the fact that we can as women vote alternatively. I understand for some it may feel like a wasted vote as I don’t think realistically a candidate will ever get in but several years ago if you had told me the referendum would happen and Brexit would be a thing I would’ve laughed you down. Just a thought.

Patodp · 11/02/2018 09:14

I fucking hate the Labour party over this issue. I feel like I've been kicked in the stomach.

I can not sit back to let the Tories win another election. That would be actual suicide.

It's so tough. I can only hope this trend continues and it's clear that it's women bringing the party down and it's clear that it's the self-ID is driving this.

Big enough so they can't fob it off as Brexit (how'd they work that out Confused ) or just a crap poll.

Then hope they will see the light.

I mean the fucking way they handled AWS "OK we'll have a Transgender shortlist then" AND keeping the self identified women's shortlist is fucking outrageous.

So -
Men now have THREE lists.
Open list (which we all know is sort of like a men only list right!)
Women only list
Trans list

No list for women only.

Transwomen have 2 lists.
Transmen have 1 list.
Any Equality to see here Labour party care to find it for me??

It's like the fucking Hampstead ponds.

Women only becomes unisex.

Men and self identified women get THREE ponds including a men only. (Seeing as most self ID women look just the same as men, they know full well they can pop over to the bigger better men's pond if they feel like it)
Women and genuine transexuals get 2, but no women only.

All in the name of EQUALITY.

Sorry a bit off topic but it's really ony mind this morning.

RedToothBrush · 11/02/2018 09:18

The Women's Equality Party are also self Id so those confused about voting on the basis of this issue are not going to find any answers there either.

LangCleg · 11/02/2018 09:18

Would anyone else consider voting LibDem? I'm open to all views.

No. They're vehemently pro self-ID. And worse than Labour because Labour are currently acting without a vote from their own conference. LibDem policy is all already voted on, I believe.

Any vote I cast in the next election will lead to economic policies that last for five years. Brexit will be a done deal by the time it comes around. But any party with self-ID in its manifesto will be signing away women's rights in perpetuity.

I've been a Labour Party member for thirty years. I've knocked doors. I've phone banked. I've leafleted. I've shaken collecting tins. If anybody here thinks I'd decide to inflict five more years of Tory rule on working class women on a selfish whim, they are wrong. I don't make this decision lightly.

exLtEveDallas · 11/02/2018 09:18

@cheekyandfreaky unfortunately the WEP have also drunk the Kool Aid and call women CIS. So no votes there either.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 11/02/2018 09:18

John McDonnell is on Peston this morning. People can tweet questions using #AskMcDonnell.

Cheekyandfreaky · 11/02/2018 09:19

Oh damn, right. Anyone want to start a political party?
