Interesting and thoughtful article

Tamsin should speaking sense because she isn’t being influenced by all the crazy younguns. She’s pensionable age from the photo and has basically seen and heard it all. We need to hear some mature voices I think when things get hysterical.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 05/02/2018 17:46

I'm not Tamsin! But I've emailed her and told her that you're all agreeing with her.
:)

I don't know if Tamsin will join the thread, but I've given her a heads up.

X

It's tragicomic that we've reached a point where a person talking common sense is a shocking turn of events. Trans women are male, you say? And that's why the word "trans" is in there? Shock

It's an odd time, when people talking sense have to do so in obscure publications (no offense to the fine readers of Country Squire intended, it just seems a bit niche) but you can't state facts in The Guardian.

I'm not sure I'd say "fine readers" given some of the other articles tbh

AngryAttackKittens · 05/02/2018 17:59

Didn't bother to read them, as I'm neither a squire nor particularly interested in the country.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/02/2018 18:04

Another "Country Squire" virgin here - that was a remarkably good read, I am really surprised (at country squire, not Tamsin)

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 05/02/2018 18:10

Thanks Tamsin - we like a terfy transfer woman here Grin

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 05/02/2018 18:10

Trans woman

infamousT · 05/02/2018 18:23

Hello ladies - having been informed of this discussion and invited to join in.... well - here I am.

I can assure you I am real! Happy to answer any questions.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 05/02/2018 18:26

I agreed with everything you said in that interview Tamsin. Thanks for being a voice of sanity amidst the chaos!

NotTerfNorCis · 05/02/2018 18:26

Great article! Tamsyn has a gift for eloquence. :)

Tamsin! Hello! Flowers

Myunicornfliessideways · 05/02/2018 18:54

That was a really interesting read, Tamsin, thank you.

MiMi78 · 05/02/2018 18:58

Loved the article Tamsin!
You have a gift with words.
Do you feel lost politically like many of us do with this issue?

Hi, and welcome to the nest of vipers.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and apologies if I am, but you sound like someone who suffers, or suffered, from genuine gender dysphoria.

And as such, societal empathy, as you put it, is important.

I don't think anyone on here would have a problem with that.

You're quite right that it has been politicised from the bottom up for several years. (Or top down, depending on whether you are the subject, or the instigator).

Resulting in the mess we have now.

It's very important that transsexuals (people who have gender dysphoria or a variation thereof), add their voice to the juggernaut that is overtaking women's rights.

It seems to be comprised of fetishists, misogynists and any men's rights activist who fancies bashing women.

All done in your name. Or rather, hijacking your name.

Thankfully, it is becoming quite clear to many women that this is what is happening.

Then initial disconnect amongst women who knew perfectly lovely transsexuals, and women who experienced transactivists, seems to have become resolved.

At least on here.

Because we talk. Sorry, because we're allowed to talk.

We have several transwomen posting on here. And it's quite clear to everybody that they are suffering from the backlash against the new Johnny Come Lately's, who are screwing it up for everybody.

Any advice?

I wonder how many of the people who were rightfully angry about that Dark Matters post in which either Alok or Janani was going on about little girls being kinky and deviant realized that their argument was pretty much lifted straight from Foucault.

rowdywoman1 · 05/02/2018 19:38

InfamousT
Do you think that there are many others within the trans community who think as you do? Many of us have trans women friends looking on in horror at what has happened but feeling unable to challenge it.
One thing I read today on here was an exasperated question about where are the other 'representatives' of the trans community standing up against this batshittery? I suppose I wonder how realistic it is to stand up from within this community?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 05/02/2018 20:08

Welcome InfamousT

Apologies for doubting your existence (it wasn't you I found implausible so much as some of the other articles in the publication you appeared in)

Thanks for writing this, I enjoyed reading it very much. I hope you will stick around.

TERFousBreakdown · 05/02/2018 20:27

@infamousT, welcome & thank you for speaking out!

Just so we're clear: I might be what the likes of ... erm ... certain people would instantly condemn as a 'TERF' - but I have a lot of patience for someone in your position and try to show as much empathy as humanly possible towards everyone, including trans folks, just so long as it doesn't include throwing women under the bus.

I genuinely wish we were at a point, speaking at a societal level, where women's rights were so non-negotiable that people such as myself didn't see themselves forced to 'take sides', as it were, and could fully throw their weight behind other issues related to inequality. I genuinely wish that, as a woman-born-woman, I didn't see any reason to feel threatened by anyone asking for access to women's spaces. Heck, I really, really wish we were in a place where nobody apart from sexual/romantic interests of mine gave a crap about what is (or used to be) between my legs or yours!

As things stand at present, this is very much not the case - and I'm the first person to acknowledge that this hurts you as much as it does me.

Insofar: your speaking out is much appreciated!

Also: I'm a fucking hard leftie who can't believe I actually read an article in something entitled 'Country Squire'. Down the rabbit hole we go, folks! Smile

rowdywoman1 · 05/02/2018 20:31

Muses on whether 'The Lady" magazine is a bit terfy?? Hmm

MiMi78 · 05/02/2018 20:44

If I had read your post 6 months ago, I would think it was going a bit far. Not now though.
It looks to me that free speech, specifically women's free speech is getting stamped down on.

And if you can't speak freely, you can't debate, discuss ideas etc. And fully participate in public life.
Even now, God forbid if you do speak your mind, real things like your job or reputation are at risk. Fuck knows what it will actually be like if Self id does come to pass.
You can see it on Social Media, the real perpetrators of actual Transphobia (men) are left alone, while any dissenting women are jumped on.
The world seems like such a confusing place at the moment, for example, if I go to a Women's Aid webpage, I see posts urging readers to 'protect women and children!',
Then in the news it being widely acknowledged that lots of women have suffered sexual violence and lots of people being very concerned about it and we must stamp it out.
Then I see the very same people practically running to open up the doors to women and children's spaces where they are vulnerable, telling us it's bigoted if we don't welcome potentially dangerous men in.
It's pure Gaslighting.
This type of Transactivism seems to come out of nowhere, and you have to wonder what the end game will be.
I have had the same suspicions around the children myself, it's the emphasis on intervention with puberty blockers and the discrediting of the mother figure.
I'm rambling now anyway!

That's very interesting, infamous. I totally agree that it bears all the hallmarks of a cult.

And I've been an atheist my whole adult life. I don't do magical thinking, souls, inner essences, transubstatiation or elevating beliefs into facts by virtue of the sincerity with which they're held.

Welcome to mumsnet feminism- we have this fantastic reputation of being a nest of feminazi vipers - actually, we're lovely Grin
