I've reached trans peak

GrooovyLass · 03/02/2018 14:12

I have always been supportive of people living their lives how they need to. I have a lovely colleague who is a transwoman and DD's best and most brilliant teacher at school was a transman.

I don't think I've changed my opinion that people with actual gender dysmorphia should be helped to transition. I also think that people should be able to wear what they want and look like what they want.

I've scanned a few threads in this section and found myself agreeing more and more with the comments about "self identifying" but the Rose McGowan clip has definitely made me reach peak trans. These people aren't women and they're not even transwomen, they're men in dresses. I have nothing against a man wearing a dress but a man wearing a dress, trying to look like a particular type of stereotypical woman and screaming that he's a woman is just a man screaming at a woman.

They dress like their idea of a woman, they say that they are women but the male privilege to be heard the loudest and the longest belies what they're saying.

Thanks for reading if you have. I just wanted to share my enlightenment without hijacking anyone else's thread (because I'm a woman so I'm polite!) but I've a feeling that the paragraphs I've written in will disappear when I post.

How are white women more privileged that white males? I don't like the "check your privilege thing" as it is normally used to shut up a differing opinion. I have a disability and I do not accept that someone who whines about not getting a hair-straightener in prison is more oppressed than me, not to mention all the other narcissistic whingers.

Yes some people have more than one oppression that they are facing and it is important to recognise that. But intersectional feminism has turned into oppression olympics. Currently a Women's March group have cancelled a talk by Rose McGowan and come out in favour of the idiot who interrupted her (who seems to be a predator of children who is against statutory rape laws - I have read some of what he has written).

Hi waluigiwaifu.
I'm not straight.
I care about misogynoir and am very active against it.
As a lesbian, I want to make a public health announcement that lesbian identity is important for lesbians, and part of that identity is knowing that lesbians do not have penises.

If you don't care about lesbians being bullied and coerced into penis-sex, do not call yourself intersectional.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 03/02/2018 21:38

'I do think that MN has been an absolutely huge part of how the GRA consultation has been pushed back. They tried to sneak in huge changes by the backdoor, and luckily, failed. It may still happen, but we have put it off for now.'

Not in Scotland.
Consultation pushing forward as we speak...

thebewilderness · 03/02/2018 21:38

I do not believe in transubstantiation. Add me to the list.

NotAWhacktivist · 03/02/2018 21:38

Sorry noticed typo that might mislead people

Ledkr · 03/02/2018 21:38

I'm joining too!
I really didn't get the fuss until I watched India on CBB and I was furious.
I've been reading threads on here and Twitter and am now completely peaked Angry

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 03/02/2018 21:40

if a black lesbian woman said she had reached peak trans, that's ok? or would there be another reason why she should shut her mouth?

She'd be portrayed as too aggressive to have a conversation with, if the treatment of Linda Bellos is anything to go by Angry

TestyAndTERFy · 03/02/2018 21:44

“Trans rights activism, on the other hand, with its insistence that lesbians must accept dick or be socially ostracised, is genuine homophobia.”

@HairyBallTheorem That’s pretty much what flipped me over the edge. I heard that and started reading. Then I found out about lady-penises and pregnant persons and realised this whole thing wasn’t just fuck-nuttery but that people are actually saying this shit for real. I mean what the actual fuck is going on!?&*

HairyBallTheorem · 03/02/2018 21:51

Yup, it was the cotton ceiling that tipped me right over the edge. But it is symptomatic of every peak I've had since, because every peak really comes down to this simple realisation - every single occasion where a woman wants to assert a boundary, defend her private space, defend her autonomy over her own body, even defend her right not to have her private thought processes policed - a TIM comes along and says "no you can't, my lady-feels come first", and then the bloody handmaidens come along and cheer him on.

The whole movement (the TIMS and the handmaidens) is like a huge neon sign saying "WOMEN, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SAY NO."

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 03/02/2018 21:56

Cotton ceiling did it for me too. Just no words.

OvaHere · 03/02/2018 22:03

There have been so many peaks. Cotton ceiling was the first online thing I happened across along with that dude who spent years litigating against a rape crisis centre.

Other notable highlights are Stefonknee, anything sports related and most recently our very own homegrown Lily Madigan.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 03/02/2018 22:10

TestyAndTERFy I think I've posted under your post on that other forum :waves: Wink

Gooovy - it's a brave new world! Welcome!

Is this a good place to remind people to complete the scotish self id consultation? You can do it a wee bit at a time & get a link to go back so you can scream or drink a lot inbetween reading the insane questions

NotAWhacktivist · 03/02/2018 22:16

TRA's just seem determined to shoot themselves in the foot. They have managed to get an environmentalist de-platformed and he is not happy. I've no idea what the background to this is but sweet

Wanderingwomb · 03/02/2018 22:17

I'm sorry but you can't always assume straight and white is most privileged in every situation. It is not an excuse for lazy thinking. You need to actually look at what is happening too. If you need a different example for that just think of the recent Rotherham sexual abuse case. Those girls' straightness and whiteness did fuck all for them there.

That aside, although I have no power as a woman to concede to men, I have been considering how I as a white person could best support people of BAME in the future. This horrible situation has kind of woken me up to my responsibility in that area. Ironically, I have come to see that I think I agree with what Monroe Bergdorf said about race. Just a shame she can't seem to see you could say the exact same thing about women.

TestyAndTERFy · 03/02/2018 22:17

Hey Waddle :waves right back: I just checked back and can’t see it so maybe it’s been intercepted by the mods? Shame if that has happened - but maybe not surprising.

Wanderingwomb · 03/02/2018 22:19

Re the peaking, I now just shout "fuck off with your misogyny" in my head. It seems to cover every situation.

OnTheList · 03/02/2018 22:27

But am interested in your point of view. So if a black lesbian woman said she had reached peak trans, that's ok? or would there be another reason why she should shut her mouth?

Of course she should shut up. She should realise that straight (usually, especially wth TRAs) white male people have it the worst of everyone and should be centred in feminism and all life.

Intersectionality has become so bastardized recently.

Not sure if image will work so links here too
trannosphere.tumblr.com/image/162558126321

Fuck off with your feminism should intersect with a penis arguments.

I've reached trans peak
OnTheList · 03/02/2018 22:29

The fuck off was not to you pallisers obviously but to the 'feminist' who disagrees with second wavers and thinks male people and their feelings are the most important thing in the world and should be centred in feminism.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 03/02/2018 22:31

TestyAndTERFy yikes i just checked & you're right, how very depressing
Hopefully it will be back but presumably the fact it is gone just now means that a dissenting opinion is enough to warrant reporting to mods Hmm
I got told off for having an interesting discussion on a plastic reduction thread last week Grin

thebewilderness · 03/02/2018 22:34

2nd rule of misogyny: Women saying no to men is a violent hate crime.

TestyAndTERFy · 03/02/2018 22:41

Waddlelikeapenguin Oh well, at least I have the answer to my “I wonder where the NMs stand on all this?” question Sad

LangCleg · 03/02/2018 22:47

It's such a white straight privilege to ignore the intersections so privilege is not exclusive to men, never forget that.

Oh, do get a grip. Transactivism is a movement for class privileged, mostly white, male people.

You know - the ones at at the absolute apex of privilege on every intersection going.

terryleather · 03/02/2018 22:55

Behold! a tumblrina has arrived to sanctimoniously lecture us auld yins on how to do feminism the modern & correct way by intersecting with penis.

Naw thanks hen, but you're welcome to join us for a Dark&Stormy - it's Saturday night, let yer hair down!

GrooovyLass · 03/02/2018 23:11

Oh. I've just googled cotton ceiling. I've peaked again.
