I've reached trans peak

GrooovyLass · 03/02/2018 14:12

I have always been supportive of people living their lives how they need to. I have a lovely colleague who is a transwoman and DD's best and most brilliant teacher at school was a transman.

I don't think I've changed my opinion that people with actual gender dysmorphia should be helped to transition. I also think that people should be able to wear what they want and look like what they want.

I've scanned a few threads in this section and found myself agreeing more and more with the comments about "self identifying" but the Rose McGowan clip has definitely made me reach peak trans. These people aren't women and they're not even transwomen, they're men in dresses. I have nothing against a man wearing a dress but a man wearing a dress, trying to look like a particular type of stereotypical woman and screaming that he's a woman is just a man screaming at a woman.

They dress like their idea of a woman, they say that they are women but the male privilege to be heard the loudest and the longest belies what they're saying.

Thanks for reading if you have. I just wanted to share my enlightenment without hijacking anyone else's thread (because I'm a woman so I'm polite!) but I've a feeling that the paragraphs I've written in will disappear when I post.

It's okay Fosterdog we know what you meant 😉

OnTheList · 03/02/2018 16:39

Just - when I said sick of seeing it on here, not for one minute did I mean bored of or it shouldn't be on here. I meant it more in an exasperated way - sick of still having to have the fight.

I know exactly what you mean.

I understand many are pissed off with how this trans thing has taken over the feminist forum pretty much. But its a huge threat to womens rights. if the transactivists do get their way, we will go back 100 years. Then have to fight again from scratch for our own spaces and such. Its a daunting thought. Luckily with MN allowing conversation about this (and I have noticed some other forums are starting to follow suit, which makes me think the tide is definitely turning) we have managed to 'wake' enough people to actually make a difference. I do think that MN has been an absolutely huge part of how the GRA consultation has been pushed back. They tried to sneak in huge changes by the backdoor, and luckily, failed. It may still happen, but we have put it off for now.

And with more and more people reaching peak trans, surely the political parties will take note and an actual debate can be had on the topic. there is, unfortunately, no middle ground though if the third space option is rejected. Its becoming more and more acceptable to voice concerns, and thats promising.

I foolishly dialled into a video conference at work called gender identify.

I had to dial off after 10 minutes where the male presenter was helpfully telling us that men tended to be leaders whereas women tended to be soft and caring, also men like to wear baggy clothes whereas we women like tight clothing.

Asking the obvious questions like "I'm a middle aged woman who wears baggy clothing to hide my menopot and I haven't a caring or nurturing bone in my body ( at work of course) - does that make me a man, and when can I get my promotion and pay rise please?" would be very career limiting, so I just dropped off the call as the safest - for me - option.

Thankfully when discussing it with colleagues, everyone said they were far too busy to dial into a call about gender identity - I only did it because of interest piqued due to mumsnet - so whilst the trans community would like it to be the central focus of everyone's attention, I'm really hoping most people aren't giving it as much air time.

DisabledUserName · 03/02/2018 17:52

Magdalen Berns did it for me; her YouTube is well worth a watch.

UpstartCrow · 03/02/2018 18:05

Are you sure you're at the peak yet GrooovyLass ?

Andi Dier who heckled Rose McGowan is a ‘known sexual predator’ claim several women.
gendertrender.wordpress.com/2018/02/02/transwoman-who-heckled-rose-mcgowan-is-a-known-sexual-predator-claim-women/

More of his victims have come forwards on Twitter today. The Womens March have stood by Andi and criticised Rose, and one arts centre has cancelled a speaking engagement.

The Women's March tweeted;
''Please read this interview with the activist who engaged with Rose McGowan last night. Transphobia and denying trans women’s identities is never okay. The pain we feel does not excuse the pain we cause others.''

Activist my arse.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 03/02/2018 18:16

I've been gender critical for years, but had no idea the breadth and scope of the issue until about six months ago.

When people complain that there's a new trans thread every day, I think it's evidence of a gaining momentum of people sitting up and noticing, and saying, "hang on..."

I've seen many people say in threads, "I was just lurking but now I have to say something" or "I was signposted here from elsewhere" etc.

The more people keep talking the better. #nomorenodebate

Justabunchofcunts · 03/02/2018 18:25

Ah sorry Foster, I know what you mean.

motmot · 03/02/2018 18:35

ostrichnomore I also live in the middle of nowhere but there are three trans kids at the local senior school. All biologically female, so TIF.

I have learned so much on this board but my view is seen as bigoted and phobic by RL friends and family. It's trying to put the key issues and concerns across without turning them off or overwhelming them. Older relatives see the issues more quickly. My younger sister however was horrified by what I had to say.

Datun · 03/02/2018 18:49

@GrooovyLass

The tide is definitely turning. There are so many women now, on here, asking questions. Because it's just about the only place where you can.

There are some truly brilliant, incisive women who are pushing back against this. Going through all the right channels and making their voices heard, in parliament.

Writing to your MP is vital.

The more letters, actual pieces of paper, (in this day and age, more difficult to ignore than an email), arrive on their doorstep, the more they will take notice.

That was recent thread from a woman who wanted to know what all the fuss was about. She didn't quite understand all the acronyms, etc. Unsurprisingly.

Contained in the thread are links to websites where women are making a difference.

Talking about this is scary. But it's the only way. Introducing the subject to friends and family.

I'm actually amazed about how word-of-mouth has informed people. It's an amazing demonstration of solidarity.

Solidarity isn't the word I would ever have used prior to learning about this. But it's the one that encapsulates how I feel.

Women get it.

A sexual predator is called a progressive activist when he heckles a real activist who exposes sexual predators. You can not make this shit up.
Since when do peeps side with uninvited hecklers instead of the speakers? That's new, or is it because he is a man that no one believes is a woman and she is a woman that everyone can see is a woman?

thebewilderness · 03/02/2018 19:44

Here is a fact check for the MRA heckler.

I've reached trans peak
OnLiamsList · 03/02/2018 20:47

There may be a few more peaks in the future for you. Depends what outrageous claim they are going to make next!

I peaked on 21st November.

Gacapa · 03/02/2018 20:53

Welcome. Mumsnet Feminist boards brought me and many others to peak trans. There are brilliant, intelligent and ferociously articulate women writing here every day.

Yep, the man who screamed at Rose McGowan is a predator of women and girls. Whodathunkit.

LinoleumBlownapart · 03/02/2018 21:11

Yep, the man who screamed at Rose McGowan is a predator of women and girls. Whodathunkit.

I keep hoping I must be dreaming, that soon I'm going to wake up from this nightmare.

TestyAndTERFy · 03/02/2018 21:16

Well I’ve just sacked off my usual online forum and am now officially a mumsnet member. I’ve been lurking for a while, following pretty much everything that’s going on here wrt to the GRA, self-identifying, etc. I just popped over to my regular forum (I’ve not been on it for a while but was a fairly regular contributor at one point) out of curiosity to see whether there was any discussion about it there and found only one thread that mentioned trans anything and that was from 10 months ago basically lamenting that feminism is now overrun by TERFS, what a shame, it’s so sad, all this hatred, blah blah blah. Obviously, I’m fuming so I fired a shot across their bows, outed myself as a TERF (as good as), mentioned self-identifying and GRA, then hot-footed it back to MN and here I am. I peak trans’d a few months ago and get angrier by the day. Can I stay, please?

UpstartCrow · 03/02/2018 21:20

Hello TestyAndTERFy. Tea or gin? Smile

waluigiwaifu · 03/02/2018 21:20

The whole I've peaked trans is a transphobic discourse, literally why is it up to any of you to decide a supposed boundary for trans people??
First of all this whole trans peak is a distraction from the real fight the marginalised groups should be coming together not fighting??
Second trans feminism is an important movement where all should be considered identification is more important that assumptions. I literally have no time for second wave Germaine Greer feminists you can stay in your time and leave us to progress without you because inequality is also rooted in that time too.
It's such a white straight privilege to ignore the intersections so privilege is not exclusive to men, never forget that.

NotAWhacktivist · 03/02/2018 21:24

I feel like I hit #peaktrans and then I peak some more. There idiot trans-cultists telling the (alleged) victims of the man who shouted at Rose McGowan that they should respect his current preferred pronouns, even if the assault happened when he identified as a man. Talk about needing to get your priorities straight.

Not to mention one of the women's marches siding with him over here (presumably before the allegations came to the fore, but still, really).

Every time I think the cult could not get any worse, it does. However, their blatant stupidity might help #peaktrans people in the long-run.

This is a good graphic Trans Rights Activism is the new Men's Rights Activism secretlyradical.blogspot.ie/2015/03/mra-or-tra.html

HairyBallTheorem · 03/02/2018 21:25

You do realise that the slur of being transphobic now gets thrown around at the drop of a hat and has lost all force? Because women are now told they are transphobic for having the effrontery to want to talk, among other things, about their female biology. When you get to that stage, well, you've got to the stage of joining the sheep on Animal Farm, chanting "Four Legs Good, Two Legs Better." Not surprisingly, no one is particularly worried about being called transphobic any more, because it's basically a misogynistic slur now used for any and all behaviour practised by women having the bare-faced cheek to hold opinions in public.

Same old misogynistic crap we've had to deal with for millenia, new pink sparkly clothes.

(Trans rights activism, on the other hand, with its insistence that lesbians must accept dick or be socially ostracised, is genuine homophobia).

TestyAndTERFy · 03/02/2018 21:28

Tea please Smile, gin makes my cry (and puke). Rum, on the other hand...

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 03/02/2018 21:30

why is it up to any of you to decide a supposed boundary for trans people??

Nope, not doing that. We're concerned with women's boundaries and making sure they are respected.

Welcome, peaked people! Brew Gin

It's such a white straight privilege to ignore the intersections so privilege is not exclusive to men, never forget that.

Lots of privilege floating around. That shouty person on the video grew up as a white male if I am correct - gosh, lots of privilege there.

From a feminist perspective, I'm more focused on the privilege that is still exclusive to men. Being as it is the entire point of feminism y'know.

But am interested in your point of view. So if a black lesbian woman said she had reached peak trans, that's ok? or would there be another reason why she should shut her mouth?
