The Green Party has to make some positive noises before I would consider voting for them, let alone joining as a member.

I won't forget that just a few months ago, one of the co-leaders, Sian Berry, tried to get three women removed from outside the GP Conference venue in Bristol. The women were handing out FairPlay for Women GRA leaflets in a public place. The police were called.

This is the party that believes that sex-work (sic) is made safer by the decriminalisation of the buying and selling of sexual services to men.

Unlike other parties, it does not publish a manifesto for Women. Instead it has a Gender Equality manifesto (because transwomen are women and transmen are men).

It has been hi-jacked by groups promoting hobby-horses that have nothing to do with social and environmental justice.

It will take a long, long time for this small party to shake out those members who have jumped on its back. It will take even longer to get rid of those people at the top who subscribe to transgender privileges before women's rights.

Until they do a reverse ferret, they are off my radar as a contender for my vote.

The Green party actively assisted AC in this

This is the problem. It wasn't a case of a few bad apples or some kind of misunderstanding or the party leadership being unaware of local problems.

Many people tried to raise concerns at all levels and they were consistently ignored, isolated, silenced, insulted, smeared or made the subject of complaints and in one case legal action. The organisation as a whole has become dysfunctional, despite the undoubted involvement of brilliant and principled activists at a grassroots level.

And learn this lesson.

The Green Party devoted lots of resources of time and energy into helping and promoting Aimee Challenor. No other ordinary member would ever have been accorded such preferential treatment but the transgender shield ensured that AC was protected and indulged even as AC was expressly working to alienate ordinary members and voters.

And what did the GP get out of it in the end? A child rapist in the party and AC leaving and predictably denouncing the GP for "transphobia". The resulting press coverage and investigation making sure that the GP's failures were laid bare for all to see.

DC and AC would not have been able to do so much damage to the party had certain Green Party members not conspired together to make AC effectively untouchable.

Datun · 11/01/2019 23:41

A child rapist who was a furry and transvestite, raped and tortured a child, in his house, which was the headquarters of the local branch. And was convicted and sentenced to 22 years.

It honestly doesn't really get much more extreme.

You have to ask yourself quite how far it had to go before There's a huge internal debate going on in the Green Party right now about women's issues.

Women had been complaining about their rights under transgenderism to the Green party for years.

How on earth would anyone be able to justify ignoring women, until something like that happened?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 11/01/2019 23:48

They are debating whether or not 'we don't give a fuck what happens to women and children' is a reasonable position to hold

No words Angry

Who is GreenChris?

Sorry if I've missed something...but a single person saying "keep the faith" means nothing when the leadership of a party have demonstrated (for years) a distinctive lack of understanding over quite fundamental issues.

Woman = adult human female.

GirlDownUnder · 12/01/2019 01:29

Hey @greenchris are we now woman again to you, rather than non-men?

2rebecca · 12/01/2019 09:54

I won't be rejoining the SGP any time soon. They have only just reinforced the TWAW view so I don't see their stance changing in the next couple of years. Harvie would have to leave and is sadly looking like the most secure MSP at the moment.

From the 2018 Spring Conference Final Agenda:

www.greenparty.org.uk/resources/Conference/Spring%202018/Final%20Agenda%20Comp.pdf

Proposed amendments to policy (which were subsequently adopted):

Old text

RA406 ... Green Party further recognises that gender issues may be a rightful cause for an asylum claim, as where, for example, a woman or girl may be subject to female genital mutilation or forced marriage were she to be denied asylum. We will adopt...

Amended to

claim, as where, for example, a person may be subject to female genital mutilation or forced marriage were they to be denied asylum. We will adopt...

Reason

The use of gendered language goes against the Green Party's ethos.

datun summed it up nicely. It doesn’t get any worse than the Challenors house being Coventry party HQ and simultaneously the place a young girl was raped and tortured. The fact that AC has alluded to this by taking a photo of them self at bottom of attic steps while wearing a girl guide badge is in the public domain, yet somehow the trans shield allows them to continue in a different party (lib dems) as well as working with stonewall etc.
It just beggars belief. AC, Jess Bradley, Sarah Brown et al are laughing at us all. It’s there in plain sight and no one will say it. The emperor is not wearing any clothes. The emperor is naked Angry

Not a member but a former voter @greenchris

I don’t really understand how a woman let alone a feminist one can vote or support the current GP. They have erased women not only in the language they use (non-man WTAF), but in policy. Women’s rights and issues have been actively removed. It is not just the erasure of women subtly, it is an active dismissal of them.

The AC affair has highlighted that the party prioritises transgender issues and woke points above basic safeguarding let alone green issues.

And then there is the stance on prostitution.

The GP needs to have more than just discussion before I would ever consider entertaining the idea of giving them my vote again. How can a woman vote for a party that denies their existence and is actively campaigning for the erasure of their rights?

DeRigueurMortis · 12/01/2019 19:56

I'm pleased to hear that discussions are going on within the party.

However, my personal option is that there needs to be a lot of substantive action taken before convincing former members/voters to return to the fold - never mind encouraging new members.

One of the biggest hurdles has to be the current leadership who not only allowed but actively encouraged a toxic culture to develop with the party in relation to squashing any attempt to debate policy on self ID, the GRA and women's rights.

Justice is swift within the party for anyone GC (even mildly so) yet the leeway given to members in the name of diversity is endless.

Actions not words...
