The whigg party has already been revived, but sadly seem to have gone to ground since britexit. I follow then on fb, but not a sausage has been posted for a long time, and the last post seemed so embittened.

Here is their link

Ekphrasis · 30/01/2018 10:21

I remember learning about the whigg view of history during history a-level and feeling that it was more sensible than the other one/s.

Though 'man is a selfish animal' would certainly explain history to me these days...

Ekphrasis · 30/01/2018 10:25

This might be controversial but I feel a party that was named and operated like this for example, might get further than one that actively stood for women's rights if that makes sense. Eg; my Dh might vote for this if all the policies stood up but not necessarily a party like the WEP - It's unconscious bias but I think men and women might do that.

Mner · 30/01/2018 11:01

The WEP is never going to be something that men en masse are going to vote for. We were trying to explain the suffragette centenary last night to our son and DH said, it was fought by women against men but it wasn't that simple. There were people of both sexes on both sides. A generalisation but I think the articles I have seen from men are better at ridiculing this agenda. There is less threat of violence from TIMs to men when men do speak up. We need to continue engaging both women and men (and both left and right wing politics), it we are to succeed.

It would be interesting to know why the Whigs seem to have flopped...

Also as an aside, if Corbyn is so keen on the youth vote, why is he still supporting brexit?

CecilyNeville · 30/01/2018 11:25

I wonder how you claim 'ownership' of being the Whig party? (not that I'm intending anything, just musing). They seem to be a small number of people who stood in south London a while ago, just as the SDP is currently a small number of people who stand in Sheffield, but I wouldn't say they seem very SDPish.

Could you sort of say, "as you're taking a break from politics just now, can I have a go with the Whig name for a bit?"

Tells

"I've started calling them the 'non-red party'. See how they like them non-pears."

Love it!

I would like to join the Greens, is there a gender critical movement inside or it’s all
Transwomen are women?

Mner · 01/02/2018 09:24

I think the twitter feed above has gender critical people on there but their transgender policy is very worrying...

There's a whole section on transgender, which talks about supporting the removal of the spousal veto where transpeople require written permission from their partner for their marriage to continue if they get a GRC.

And then as well... it says that: "The NHS should remove barriers to accessing services for trans people, with thorough review of access to services for Children and Young People and for those who have self prescribed or self funded gender treatment in the UK or abroad"

Sad
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/02/2018 18:56

The Scottish GRA consultation suggest that they would like to remove the GRC being grounds for divorce...

ForalltheSaints · 01/02/2018 19:07

I am not a member but vote for them, on the grounds that I cannot support the Labour Party because of their lack of action against anti-semitism by some party members, their lax stance on Brexit, and I am someone who lives a car-free lifestyle. The Lib Dems supported too many things in government that I object to.

I am in effect voting for the least worst option, on the grounds that I always take part in the political process so I have validity in criticism. I consider myself one of those who Tony Blair talked about as being politically homeless.

Knittedbreasts · 02/02/2018 16:25

Green party member here, if you don't agree with the policies get involved and get your voice heard!

DodoPatrol · 02/02/2018 16:42

'Get your voices heard' - do they listen, though? Or only to carefully approved non-heretics?

Knittedbreasts · 02/02/2018 17:02

Yes they do, they have different groups which you can join for specific topics. I might ask a question actually.

DancingLedge · 02/02/2018 18:43

Knitted how do you feel about being a non- man?

Genuine question.

Mner · 02/02/2018 19:19

Where are the non-man terms used now because I looked for the other day and could only see the transgender policy above?

As a Green Party member, their whole transgender policy leaves me fuming but I am completely flummoxed as to what to do about it. I am considering leaving but to go where?

hipsterfun · 02/02/2018 23:46

It seems to have originated with a member of a young women’s Green Party group on Twitter. Couldn’t find any reference in their policy bumph.

GP lack of interest in women’s rights/sexism needs examination; the non-man silliness is a distraction.

Justabunchofcunts · 08/02/2018 09:27

Someone from a Surrey Green Party is speaking up. Anyone who has been feeling concerned about this, now is the time to speak up in support - before it is too late.

North Surrey Green Party - you can find them on Facebook and add a positive comment.

There are some chilling comments regarding free speech on there.

This is the message. The comments are terrifying.

It originated from Aimee Chanellor, then the LGBT rep...

Young green women then used it too

Everyonematters · 08/02/2018 10:26

Interesting. She is also on the Facebook thread, talking about TERFs

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 08/02/2018 10:30

Aimee was also the person who was on the LBC Nick Ferrari phone in about Women's Aid with Dr Nicola Williams, earlier in the week.

Came across as rather thick, tbh.

Everyonematters · 08/02/2018 10:37

This is interesting. I am trying to avoid any personal comments about people involved in this, they may be used against us in our argument.

Alwaysinmyheart · 08/02/2018 12:11

ItsAllGoingToBeFine that's an excellent article you shared, so well reasoned. Thanks for sharing!
