Labour Against Transphobia Facebook group

Lily Madigan and Aisling Musson are asking for 'screenshots and evidence of transphobic behaviour' so they can make Labour 'a truly safe space for all members regardless of their gender identity or lack thereof.' In other words, doxxing people so they can be thrown out of the party for gender-critical views.

The group write-up is:

A group formed to oppose the rising tide of Transphobia in the UK Labour Party and to seek to make the Party a truly safe space for all members regardless of their gender identity or lack thereof.

PLEASE READ THE PINNED POST

If you have screenshots and evidence of transphobic behaviour please put them in the google drive folder rather than offloading them straight into the group as it may otherwise be overwhelming and trans members should have the option to not have to look at upsetting comments.

Do not add anyone unless you are sure that they:

  1. Are a member of the Labour Party
  2. Believe the basis of gender is self-definition
  3. Think that transphobia is grounds for expulsion from the party
  4. Respect the autonomy of trans people to direct the fight against transphobia (I.e will not take decisions against the will of trans people)

If you are a trans and/or non binary person and you would like to be added to the secret group (trans/nb people only) please message lily madigan or aisling musson and we will add you.

Rules:

  • No advocacy for violence, threats of violence of other illegal acts (quite apart from the morality of it, please do not get this group shut down)
  • This is a not a discourse group. If you do not agree that transphobia is bad, that the Labour party has it and that we should fight it, this is not a group for you.
  • Be respectful. As far as possible, please always be friendly, respectful and comradely and treat others as you would wish to be treated.
-No members of other parties.
  • TERF is not a slur.

I used to be a Corbyn supporter, as he seemed like a principled politician.
After being woolly and evasive over this issue and Brexit though, my suspicions are he's crap.
He must have lost huge numbers of supporters/voters over these two issues.

HemlockSpartacus · 21/01/2018 19:57

If Labour don't do something about this then there's going to be a lot more people unwilling to join and support them. Being put on lists for thought crimes ffs.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/01/2018 19:59

YY. I guess it's the weekend at the mo, but they really need to get a handle on this - it's rapidly gaining momentum and it'll be outside of the radfem bubble soon.

Not a good look for a political party.

I came over very brave earlier and looked at the spreadsheet. They’ve got (had?) Linda Bellos on it! Linda Bellos! Are they mad? Or perhaps a teeny bit thick?
Slowly winching my jaw back up.

I’m not on it and I donated in my real ( bit odd) name and everything.
Tom Watson is very keen on the digital side of party organisation and actually understands data security.

UpstartCrow · 21/01/2018 20:11

Women need women only train carriages but not political representation.

Lillylollylandy · 21/01/2018 20:14

I can’t find it. Has it been shut down? Or made secret?

Which?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/01/2018 20:21

Just checked - their little FB hate group has gone, the spreadsheet and folders remain.

I really really hope someone in the group took a pile of screenshots.

Ekphrasis · 21/01/2018 20:25

Is there any issue with looking at the doc? We use google docs at work, Ive not been aware of which people have looked only edited.

Gone or hidden?

Yes, there are screenshots. I didn't see the info before the private information was deleted but others have and taken screenshots.

PowderGreen · 21/01/2018 20:30

Where are the screen shots?

RedToothBrush · 21/01/2018 20:31

These people are in a position of trust.

Even if their argument had merit, which it doesn't, then there is a serious problem here.

How can any woman in the party trust that they will not be put in a similar position if they don't agree with any policy, never mind this one?

Im utterly appalled.

Incidentally this is a pure power trip. You can see it in tweets.

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 21/01/2018 20:31

Luckily I downloaded the document before they altered it and have sent a copy to all members of Labour's National Executive Committee.
Oh and I sent a link to the live document too. This has to make a difference, we cannot stand by and allow women to be silenced like this!

irretating · 21/01/2018 20:33

I know some people here have taken some including myself. Anne Ruzylo over on twitter has one with the private information on.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 21/01/2018 20:37

Was it Mao or Stalin who kept themselves very aloof from what was happening on the ground so that the peasants - as they starved and got beaten to death in purges - would feel that 'if only the great leader knew what was happening he would put a stop to this'?

That's fucking Corbyn all over that is.

GrimDamnFanjo · 21/01/2018 20:39

I'm bemused that they put Ruth Serwotka on the list too - are they completely crackers? The poster upthread has it - its the type of political pantomime students get up to.

EamonnWright · 21/01/2018 20:49

Corbyn and McDonnel are ideologues and always have been. If the Trans stuff becomes an impediment to them getting power they will be cast aside quicker than you can say hairy balls.

It amused me the amount of folk who thought Corbyn was the saviour of the EU, he has always been against it.

EamonnWright · 21/01/2018 20:56

@GrimDamnFanjo and students have more time to plaster Social media with their nonsense and unfortunately political discourse is played out almost fully on there these days.

If anyone has time I would implore you to watch this debate between Tony Benn and Roy Jenkins from the time of entering the EC.

2 people poles apart in thinking but polite, honest and respectful. Most important they treated the viewers/voters like intelligent grown ups.

m.youtube.com/watch?t=6s&v=_zBFh6bpcMo

Compare and contrast with what passes for political discourse within Labour now.

It would make you weep Sad

Terrylene · 21/01/2018 21:39

I find it impossible to understand how a political party can support a person in the role of 'womens officer', no matter how lowly in the party hierarchy, who actively seeks to exclude women from the party. Total madness.

ConfusedCod · 21/01/2018 21:44

I've been meaning to check something.

Is LM actually legally classed as a woman (not being inflammatory - do they have a GRC?)

I was under the I'm impression that they were very much 'intact'. In which case they can't have a GRC right?

Surely there is a sex discrimination case there, giving a woman's post to someone who isn't legally a woman (not yet anyway - self ID isn't legal yet)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/01/2018 21:45

Lily says that Lily has a GRC
