In solidarity with women's marches across the globe on 21st January there will be a march in London, ending up at Trafalgar square.

It is a show of numbers to condemn many harmful attitudes towards women, minorities of race and religion, LGBTQA+ peoples and survivors of sexual assaults.

These issues will not go away by this march, but it is to remind to the global audience that they are prevalent and not enough is being done to curb harmful rhetoric and actions against these people's.

I dont really get the whole "lesbian wont have sex with trans woman" thing

It seems bloody obvious to me that lesbians like vaginas

I can understand being upset if you have gone the whole hog and have a neo vagina (have i got that right?....probably not)

But i think that probably just shows that they dont appreciate a good vagina...

Thought this march was to bring folk together

I still don't know who is actually organising this march.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 21/01/2017 03:06

Although I see there is a march now in my home town that I can also not go on.

I don't get it either. For one thing, surely anyone has the right to refuse sex with another person for any reason?

Even if you prefer sex with one type of genitals rather than the other, that doesn't mean you are going to be totally indiscriminate about it, and will sleep with anyone just because they have the preferred genitals. I might find someone who ticks absolutely every single box I have in a list of preferred physical and intellectual characteristics, and I still am free to say, "no thanks," for any reason I like.

Did that link really say "transwomen are women, TERFs are not".

Eh?

What if I don't identify as a TERF even if they say I am one? What if I identify as a gender critical woman? Is that enough? Confused

I feel really, really sad this morning. A global 'women's' march, for 'women's' rights (perhaps, depending on who is tweeting) and it is specifically excluding women.

We are well and truly down the rabbit hole.

AskBasil · 21/01/2017 07:37

"It seems bloody obvious to me that lesbians like vaginas"

Ah well according to trans-doctrine, what that means is that you are being biologically essentialist and reducing women to their vaginas. Also, you are a vagina fetishist.

Funnily enough, they don't call heterosexual men vagina fetishists, or gay men penis fetishists. It's only women who get insulted and accused of being bigots, for having sexual preferences and believing that we have the right to set sexual boundaries, just as men do.

BeyondCanSeeTheEmperorsBellend · 21/01/2017 08:03

I'm torn now between 1) not going because I don't see the point and don't want to be associated with that lot and 2) going just to pee off the TRAs. Wink

Unfortunately my kids have tonsillitis so the decision has been made for me...

ICJump · 21/01/2017 08:08

I ended up going to my local one. I was disappointed. So so many men. Being manly. Urg

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/01/2017 08:32

Phoenix - it's ambiguous - I think they meant TERFs are not welcome not TERFs are not women. Though the latter would fit with the 'terfs are just transmen who are scared to admit it' and 'transwomen are more woman than you/us' that I have seen many times elsewhere.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 21/01/2017 08:52

I wouldnt mind basil

But i dont like vaginas enough to be a feshist

I rather get the feeling that mine has betrayed me on a number of occassions and i am a bit annoyed with it Grin

Xenophile · 21/01/2017 10:23

Countess, that person believes that people they designate as being TERFs are not women.

Bambambini · 21/01/2017 10:44

No - they are saying that as Terf's are evil, bigoted haggish women (who disagree that a man can be a woman if he says he is) - then any woman who who doesn't want males in their changjng rooms, loos, prisons, sports etc - should be banned and a soeech shoukd be issued to say they are banned.

That is just one individual though.

Datun · 21/01/2017 10:53

A march for all women, including men, but excluding women who think men aren't women.

It's almost impressive.

BeyondCanSeeTheEmperorsBellend · 21/01/2017 10:54

I've seen quite a few other individuals on twitter though.

Here's a personal...favourite.

I find the whole thing very upsetting and it really sets off my anxiety so I try not to think about it. That facebook comment is not an isolated incident, everywhere the genera discourse is so ridiculous that it's hard to tell what's going on anymore, I feel like I've stepped into alternative reality.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/01/2017 11:40

Beyond - and yet somehow 'misgendering' is Actual Violence and that is not.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/01/2017 11:42

Are the organisers going to condemn threats like that? Has anyone seen any posts where they do?

Bambambini · 21/01/2017 11:54

i'm sure the organisers do cindemn such theats. They did state that misogyny and transmisogyny will not be tolerated. One FB site deleted all posts and closed comments. Must have got a bit crazy.

BeyondCanSeeTheEmperorsBellend · 21/01/2017 12:06

"Condemning" and condemning can be very different things though...
And I think they might be doing the first one.

chuffingtrain · 21/01/2017 12:20

still not answered my post yet.... I'm sure you will get to it in time ?

chuffingtrain · 21/01/2017 12:23

So let me get this straight, you are not "anti trump" but just everything he stands for ? yet you keep your big mouth closed when Yazidiz and Christians are raped and tortured by muslims in Iraq !!! youre a bunch of weal inneffective losers

Nomoreworkathome · 21/01/2017 16:28

I still don't know who is actually organising this march.

A group of eight women who came together after the US election wanting to do something positive.

Blistory · 21/01/2017 17:35

I've been watching the Washington march on CBSN and its remarkable how powerful Ashley JUdd was with her talk ( on someone's else's behalf) of pussies and nasty women. Particularly when contrasted with Janet Mocks speech which was all about transwomen. There's a place for all in this movement against Trump and what he stands for but women very clearly react more powerfully when allowed to be free and open about the very real oppression that starts with their bodies being controlled and dominated.

If transwomen want us to fight for their rights, they need to accept their responsibilities to all women and stop insisting on the exclusion and erasure of women.
