Women's March London 21st January

In solidarity with women's marches across the globe on 21st January there will be a march in London, ending up at Trafalgar square.

It is a show of numbers to condemn many harmful attitudes towards women, minorities of race and religion, LGBTQA+ peoples and survivors of sexual assaults.

These issues will not go away by this march, but it is to remind to the global audience that they are prevalent and not enough is being done to curb harmful rhetoric and actions against these people's.

Oh fuck off with the cis privilege bullshit.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 04/01/2017 17:28

Bullshit sums cis privilege up nicely.

LumelaMme · 04/01/2017 17:43

I think it oversimplifies to say that 'women are oppressed because of our biology'.
I don't. That's where the crap begins. Oh, look you have the babies and don't have a dick, ergo, you are variant and not the norm - and on it goes.

'Gorgeousness'?

I did think ?? when a friend linked to this on FB weeks ago. This thread has convinced me that I don't want to go. Cis bollocks? Oh please.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 04/01/2017 17:52

Any group who support the concept that women have "cis privilege" is, by definition, not feminist. Glad we started examining this march's purposes. If "cis" is a priority, they are clearly not in women's interests.

HermioneWeasley · 04/01/2017 19:25

Why are women oppressed if not our biology? If it's not because we're smaller, weaker, our reproductive capability and ability to be penetrated?

It's not because of skirts and liking unicorns.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 05/01/2017 12:06

I've been reading all the Twitter posts reacting to the @womensmarch bollocks about cis privilege, thank you, Empress. The tweets from Womensmarch are the usual grotesque Everyday Menism claims. But the responses are nearly 100% real, gender critical feminism, lots of voices saying that cis privilege is misogyny.

I'll be interested to see how many women turn up to this march. My impression is that those feminists who are serious political activists and who might be able to make a women's march successful will all be completely alienated by this trans nonsense. The organizers who posted here seem very inexperienced and they'll find it impossible to persuade knowledgeable second wavers to advise them now.

To paraphrase Gender Critical Dad, whose blog I follow, every time @womensmarch tweets about cis another person decides to sleep in on 21st January.

specialsubject · 05/01/2017 12:15

all for democratic expression, but I don't think yet another Saturday march in London will achieve anything. Mass protests have attracted government attention in the past - but this is the wrong country in which to complain about Trump.

still utterly baffled why genitalia of any sort give privilege.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 05/01/2017 12:38

You're welcome, Prawn. I did feel encouraged by the responses.

venusinscorpio · 05/01/2017 12:56

LOL. These idiots don't have a fucking clue. But nice bandwagon.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 05/01/2017 17:57

Welcome to Mumsnet, woman12345.

So the Washington Post confused men with women?

Funny, just like the march organisers are doing...

woman12345 · 05/01/2017 18:54

See you there!
It'll be good to talk to all supporters, unity is strength!
If men dressed up as women want to come, they can do ancillary help like they did at Greenham Common.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 15/01/2017 10:17

So transactivist Janet Mock is one of the organisers in the US. That explains why the march focus on Twitter now is almost exclusively on cis privilege, gender and "non-males", thus making sex-based oppressions pretty much irrelevant.

Mock is actively misogynistic (calls women [[https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fish&amp=true&defid=621379
fish]]) and has written positively about the "sisterhood" of child prostitution as a "rite of passage" for young black transwomen.

I expect the name "Women's March" will be changed next.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 15/01/2017 10:19

I've purposely avoided referencing woman12345's "men dressed up" comment to my above post because I didn't want it deleted.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 15/01/2017 12:03

Janet Mock? Jesus wept.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 15/01/2017 13:31

They're also tweeting about Audre Lorde as "queer". The whole thing is an exercise in misogyny and homophobia SadAngry

TammySwansonxx · 15/01/2017 16:19

Janet Mock being involved explains everything. Hideous misogynist

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 15/01/2017 16:44

Having done a little reading on Audre Lorde I can't imagine her wasting a second on TRAs. Impressive stuff. A passionate 2nd wave lesbian, feminist and civil rights activist. Never heard of her before, but I'm a bit of an ignoramus. She's big in the US but died in 1992

Xenophile · 15/01/2017 17:30

Janet Mock being involved explains everything

Absolutely. Fucking hideous person.

NoToast · 15/01/2017 23:38

Very glad this has been discussed on here. Just today I've been mulling over going and driving a minibus up but the comments on here from the organisers and the CIS tweets make it a no.

Destinysdaughter · 16/01/2017 00:31

Wow that tweet with all the misogynistic stuff on has given me the serious rage! I actually couldn't believe what I was reading.A "woman's centre is cissexist"?

Fuck that shit Angry

WankingMonkey · 16/01/2017 02:06

Holy shit..the cis-sexist tweet..who the fuck thought that would be a good idea when trying to sell something as a feminist event.

ICJump · 16/01/2017 02:43

I won't be going to the March local to me because it puts men and boys, and trans women before women. That feminism is not my feminism

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 16/01/2017 08:12

I think we have a full house now. The transwoman Julia Serano is speaking, who has denied the existence of sex-based oppression and attacks what she calls "cis dykes" for not being sexually interested in transwomen.
