In solidarity with women's marches across the globe on 21st January there will be a march in London, ending up at Trafalgar square.

It is a show of numbers to condemn many harmful attitudes towards women, minorities of race and religion, LGBTQA+ peoples and survivors of sexual assaults.

These issues will not go away by this march, but it is to remind to the global audience that they are prevalent and not enough is being done to curb harmful rhetoric and actions against these people's.

London was beautiful! Best march I've ever been on! Huge, peaceful friendly, women! What's next?

EBearhug · 21/01/2017 18:21

I enjoyed it, too.

Clearly a majority of people hadn't got the message about it's not anti-Trump. Grin

Lots of peace and women, though. A few rainbow flags and LBGT signs, but not a TA in sight from where I was, which was possibly somewhere between the middle and the back, but to be honest, I have no idea! Just a sea of people.

chuffingtrain · 21/01/2017 18:47

A sea of people ? more like a puddle :D

woman12345 · 21/01/2017 18:51

Yes, not to derail with trans stuff, but it was all lovely, nearly all women. Peaceful and London at its best. Lots of support from by standers. So many it took 2hrs nearly to get out of Grosvenor Square. I think that must have been one of the biggest women's marches in this country. Brilliant! More to come!

Xenophile · 21/01/2017 19:21

Even the demo local to me was well attended and apparently wonderful.

Let's make it a movement, not a moment.

Queenie04 · 21/01/2017 19:28

So are you marching for ALL groups including Black,Hispanic an other women if colour or just people who look like you. Thus March is wishy washy and sounds like marching for the sake of marching. Also if you are a grass roots agency fighting for women's rights the don't you think you should stick to that.

exLtEveDallas · 21/01/2017 19:28

My closest one was a triumph as well, peaceful and well attended. So pleased.

Queenie04 · 21/01/2017 19:29

In line with other posts us your aim to March for women's rights or trans rights Confused

Queenie04 · 21/01/2017 19:36

User as a Black woman I need to pull you up on your previous post. This March in my opinion is not about supporting Black women and their children. Black women are item expected to support this marches without our issues being adress DD. Your response to other posters questions are vague and unclear regarding the purpose of this March. Please don't throw Black women's struggle in there as a red herring

Queenie04 · 21/01/2017 19:49

I agree with most posters so far as this organisation is akin to the BLK movement which in the surface appears to be about protesting against injustice again Black people and people of colour but is in fact about promoting LGBT and Transgender issues

Queenie04 · 21/01/2017 19:50

It's a shame this could have been a good March

woman12345 · 21/01/2017 20:02

There is a specific anti racist march coming up in Feb:

Watched the live stream of the speeches in Washington today. They were so impassioned, eloquent and inspiring. The message that really came through was about being united against all oppression and taking action and getting your voice heard. If pp take this to heart and act on it, then Trump has really got his work cut out!

Michael Moore was magnificent as ever too! (IMHO)

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 21/01/2017 20:11

it is in fact about promoting LGBT and Transgender issues

Transgender issues. Emphatically not lesbian ones.

ChocChocPorridge · 21/01/2017 20:28

being united against all oppression

Yes, but, without clear, concrete aims, that's just a 'be excellent to everybody' (and party on, dudes) isn't it? It's all very lovely, but doesn't actually get anything done.

Rather like me standing in the living room saying 'we really should keep this house tidy' vs. me saying 'Oi! DS1, you put your clothes in the laundry basket, DS2, you put your lolly wrapper in the bin, whilst I put the cups in the dishwasher'

KanyeWesticle · 21/01/2017 21:45

I was at the march in London today. It was beautiful and touching - and really fantastic. Thank you.

MercyMyJewels · 21/01/2017 22:29

la la la...

I get where you're coming from but I think the vagueness can be a positive in the sense that it brought ALOT of women together, and may have sparked engagement in people who would never have thought about going on a march before. They may have heard some inspiring speeches, met and spoke to people with different perspectives etc etc. I can't see how it's exactly a BAD thing. Also it seems to have pissed a lot of men off. Grin

woman12345 · 21/01/2017 23:43

670 locations of marches, 2.5 million women across the world!
Never happened before.
Plus no violence!!!! Anywhere as far as I know.

Destinysdaughter · 21/01/2017 23:53

Actually, there were a lot of very concrete, practical ideas proposed at the Washington March. However, it's very different from London as they have something very real and immediate to fight.

claraschu · 22/01/2017 02:16

Wonderful to show support for Americans who are fighting Trump. It means a lot.

antimatter · 22/01/2017 02:23

chuffingtrain a puddle of 100K people marching in London!
you are having a laugh or what?

claraschu · 22/01/2017 07:28

A lot of people on this thread obsessed with a tiny and insignificant part of the real issue here.

London was amazing yesterday. Definitely anti-Trump, and definitely peaceful, full of love.

Any trans-women who might have been there were part of a huge varied web of women, men and children who were all focused on the message of love and acceptance for everyone. Anyone who saw some sort of issue with trans-women yesterday must have a serious and worrying obsession.

CantReach · 22/01/2017 07:44

I didn't make the whole march as dd hates the cold and hasn't been very well recently. But we did catch up at Trafalgar Square and there were lots of groups of young girls, and mums with babies and toddlers. The girls I saw had made their own placards and had put a lot of thought into them. There were lots of Americans there to stand in solidarity against Trump, and most people I saw were talking about how he mustn't be allowed to erode women's rights. I don't think most people knew the organisers' aims, and we're there in solidarity with the Washington march.
