I saw this on twitter recently: you tweet something you're damn good at, without apologising or getting into false modesty.

I was feeling a bit down today reading all the threads about how feminism is too this or too that, too academic or too humourless or not good enough at explaining itself - and I thought maybe it'd be good to have a more positive thread.

Rules: if you post a non-serious 'I'm so good at eating my bodyweight in stale Easter Eggs/procrastinating on MN' type thing, this counts as false modesty and you need to post something else too!

I'll start - I'm a really good teacher.

I can imitate other people's writing styles incredibly well. To the point where I wrote a fake chapter from a book and people thought it was from that book. I can also imitate people's handwriting. I should have gone into forgery Hmm

I do really good impressions. Of course, I also do really bad impressions, but the bad ones are so bad they're good.

I make really good flapjacks. Unfortunately, no-one else has ever tasted them to try, because I eat them all, but I promise, they're really good.

GinAndSonic · 20/04/2015 18:51

I started typing and realised that lots were to do with stuff i can do for others. They are brilliant, but heres my best one

Im good at treating myself well and buying myself nice things without feeling guilty.

Its taken a long time, but i got here!

HapShawl · 20/04/2015 18:53

What's that I heard, Lyonesse, about a long-lost Austen manuscript?

Lyonesse · 20/04/2015 18:57

Nothing to do with me, Hap

BoysiesBack · 20/04/2015 18:58

Ooh, fab idea for a thread Smile

I'm good at learning new information, memorising it and regurgitating it.

I'm also bloody fab at decorating cakes.

squizita · 20/04/2015 19:04

I'm very good at my job. I deliberately pick "tough" places to work with social issues etc and improve run down/troubled departments. I find i can make a "go for it, can't hurt" attitude infectious.

I've got style/swagger/a way with colours. I know what to spend on and what to scrimp on. From clubbing to church to work I always look 100% me/not a clone but also appropriate.

I'm tough and bloody minded and that's good cause I'm also proudly a soft hearted one and will gladly help those who need someone to stand up for them.

I have a great CV both academic and vocationally. Worked hard and paid my way, too.

Smile Wine

squizita · 20/04/2015 19:10

Oh and I can cook amazing food using basics like egg, lentils etc.
I can cook fancy food too.
But I know it's the knack, not anything bought, when I turn out a perfect omelette and chips made from scratch.

Jessica2point0 · 20/04/2015 19:16

I'm really good at maths and science.
I'm very efficient.
I'm good at finding a way to laugh in even the most difficult circumstances.
I make the best scouse ever (having it for tea tonight mmmm).
I'm very good at relating to teenagers and helping them find the value in learning.
I'm good at summarising complex information in to a few key points.
I'm very reliable - if my friends / family need me I'll be there in a heartbeat.
I'm capable of forgiving anyone who is truly sorry (more than even I realised until recently).

Why is it so hard to do this?! My urge to add a 'but' to everyone of those is almost overwhelming. I'm not sure I could actually say them out loud.

IthinkIneedmorewine · 20/04/2015 19:46

I am so terrible at this, but it is such a great idea.

I am clever.
I can pass exams with almost no revision.
I write excellent essays, again without too much effort.
I am really good at picking up new skills and quickly.
I am a surprisingly good skiier after 2 weeks on snow (see above point).
I am a great swimmer.
I am very good at bluffing my way through social situations, even though I hate them: people always say how confident and outgoing I am.
I am spectacularly good at drinking wine (this may help with the social one!).

It feel s very strange to write that...

Saltedcaramel2014 · 20/04/2015 19:58

What an uplifting thread.

I'm good at writing stories and connecting with people's emotions (making people cry in a good way!)

I am honest about my feelings and do what I can to speak up and encourage others to do the same, resolving conflicts and moving on

I create space for ideas to flow, chat to happen and for silliness.

I can draw well

I can inspire people to take chances

Postino · 20/04/2015 20:00

What an uplifting thread. Flowers to Jeanne and everyone here.

Postino · 20/04/2015 20:00

Snap Salted!

Saltedcaramel2014 · 20/04/2015 20:10

So nice on a Monday

Raidne · 20/04/2015 20:17

What a great idea for a thread!!

I am really clever.

I am incredibly organised.

I am a great storyteller - I can turn the most trivial incident into a great tale.

I am very good at my job.

squizita · 20/04/2015 20:20

Ithinkineedmorewine I'm a good drunk too! (This is not a stealth put down ... really, I mean it! ...not a liability, I don't get mean or morose, I'm not reckless ... I'm like a human version of Slurms Mackenzie out of Futurama or a Hobbit ... people ask me to parties and events specifically for the good vibes).

WhatWouldFlopDo · 20/04/2015 20:20

I like this...

I am great in a crisis or emergency, I can keep my head and switch off any 'oh my fucking God, what are we going to do?' feelings until it's over.

AppleAndBlackberry · 20/04/2015 20:24

I love this thread!

I am a brilliant engineer and generally good at solving problems.

I am good at DIY, flat pack etc

I am very calm

I am reasonably organised and good at planning.

I am tactful and non judgemental.

Doraemon · 20/04/2015 20:25

I am good at academic work, I can read quickly and analyse and present arguments coherently.
I am good at staying calm and trying to understand DS1 when he is really struggling with his ASD.
I am very organised and reliable.
I'm good at learning languages.

I found this really difficult, I was a very academically successful child throughout school, I am clever, I am extremely well educated but feel literally panicked at the idea of actually telling anyone in real life all the things that I secretly think I'm really good at.

turkeyboots · 20/04/2015 20:27

I am very organised. And I am an excellent leader and influencer.

youarekiddingme · 20/04/2015 20:31

I am good at my job in a special school.

I am good at understanding and supporting my autistic son and being a voice for him.

I am good at praising excellent ideas - fabulous thread!

sausageeggbacon11 · 20/04/2015 20:45

Thank you LordCopper, perhaps I can add 'I am good at choosing usernames' to my list :-)

Honsandrevels · 20/04/2015 21:14

Whoever said above that they suffer from imposter syndrome, me too. I know I'm good at my job and proud of getting a PhD. I am clever!

I'm brilliant at reverse parking. I sometimes amaze myself.

I'm good at practical stuff, DIY.

I'm kind.
