Has anyone seen this? I don't really understand this bigotry against trans gendered people.
If we're trying to make the world a better and equal place through feminism, surely excluding people who also want to do this because of their genitals or the gender they assign themselves is going to make this impossible and is a bit hypocritical?

its a bit odd that someone would have their penis removed then go somewhere and say"let me help you fight the patriarchy"

Nyac · 31/05/2012 21:22

Apparently half of MTF trans keep their penises. The law still allows them to legally claim to be women though.

I can't believe that women have rolled over so easily on this attack on women's reality and are instead attacking other women who think that maybe woman actually has a prior reality that has nothing to do with how men feel.

Well one of the main things to note about the outrage about this conference sparks is that the trans who aren't invited aren't saying "let us in because we want to fight protistution, pornography, incest, forced marriage, patriarchal religion and male supremacy" they're saying "let us in because we're women". The politics hasn't been mentioned. It's a non-issue in the trans quest for female identity.

How many women (under the old definition) would pass muster in front of the gender recognition panel I wonder?

Whole thing is ridiculous.

Is it like being a Victorian laydee - playing pianoforte, doing complicated needlework and reciting stuff.

FGS.

Do you actually not realise how hateful and inappropriate some of your comments come across?

Nyac · 31/05/2012 22:01

Information about the panel:

www.justice.gov.uk/tribunals/gender-recognition-panel

Have you been in front of it Kim?

Nyac · 31/05/2012 22:02

This is hateful:

"On the other hand trans are wanting to "break through the cotton ceiling", are issuing death threats, calling us radscum and hoping we DIAF (die in a fire)"

WidowWadman · 31/05/2012 22:04

Nyac - nobody said that the cotton ceiling is fantastically acceptable. 2 wrongs don't make one right though.

What else are they going to be looking for?

The name "gender recognition panel" kind of gives the game away. Apart from anything else some trans people get pissed off with the insistence on adhering to a stereotypical gender role so it's hardly an outrageous thing to call on it.

Nyac · 31/05/2012 22:13

So you'll be claiming to be a woman then?

I thought you said you weren't, although apparently you are female. Who said trans is logical?
