James Bond. Hardly most enlightened character.

Dressing up as 'a woman' which as we all know involves long hair, lipstick, high heels and a dress .

So an ad for International Womens Day that doesn't actually feature any women (well, the voiceover - but no-one is mentioning that).

I've only just seen it; the voice-over is good, but I'm not quite sure what the point of Daniel Craig is. (Other than looking pretty I suppose.)

I don't get it either, the voiceover is good but why not just have Judi Dench on the video.

Anyway, they weren't equals surely she was his boss?

I found it pretty boring, actually. Wasn't impressed.

I wonder if what it was trying to say was 'it's a woman's world now, oh no, actually, it's a still a man's world after all'.

Ha ha! i just posted exactly this on FB. I think the Judi Dench voiceover is great but I just don't get the point of the Daniel Craig in a dress bit. She says something about what things would be like if roles were reversed. He puts the frock on. He looks moody. He takes the wig and earrings off. He looks moody. The end. WTF

It made me think of the above exchange from 'Goldeneye' - the fact that M is now a woman, suggesting progress has been made and that equality is more or less achieved, but what is shown in this little clip is that, given the way the world is today, Bond would still rather be a man. Because, in the end, even if he does have - ooh, a female boss, he still has all the advantages given the way our society is structured. In the end, our society still favours sexist, misogynist dinosaurs.

I so agree with you. I did say on the "Women Will Have Equality...." discussion that the Daniel Craig video has greatly irritated me. Most of the comments in the media have been about how attractive he looks as a woman and not about the message.

Why do we need a man in drag to represent us?

I think Judi Dench's voice over is fantastic and will get alot of non-feminists thinking which is why I posted it on my FB. However i'll be honest I have no idea what's going on with Bond in drag and the point it's trying to make

Weird. He looked pathetic when he came close to camera....he kept sighing...was that supposed to be us? Pathetic aand sighing about our lot? Poor Us?

I think that using DC and the whole bond thing is to get it seen by a wider audience? Was a bit odd but I'm not feeling outraged.

It made me cringe as well - couldn't watch all the way through and hated the preachy v/o. Give me Daniel Craig and a video camera and I could make a much better gift to women worldwide.

The drag thing was pointless, I agree. But as a concept, and with the commentary, it was very effective.
I showed it to my 12 year old DS2, who was very thoughtful afterwards - would he have watched it had Daniel Craig not been in it? Probably not.

Not interested in DC in his speedos AT ALL. Yuk.

i just felt a bit ... mute... being represented by a bloke, and reduced to a stereotype. Too many odd associations IMVHO having him put on a wig and 'drag'. Couldn't they have morphed him into Judi Dench/another real woman using computer wizardry?
