Feminist crafters, how about we make a MN banner to march behind?

don't you think?

a big cloth one with beanpoles (and tassles at the corners, in manner of old trade union banners) carried by 2 people.

ideally it would be appliqued but could be painted instead.

I think we should do this because:

  1. trade union style banners are a fabulous craft tradition that should be continued
  2. doing one for Mumsnet would bring together old and new in a way that I think would make people look twice
  3. lovely banners increase the visual appeal of a march and thus encourage people to look again and hopefully see the slogany ones
  4. there were so many of us at MWR, probably 40-50 including children, surely a contingent that size needs a banner?

wdyt?

Have MNHQ approved the improvement bastardisation of their logo btw?

steamedtreaclesponge · 24/03/2011 17:30

SSM did you send me some? I think I did request some but can't quite remember...

ChristinedePizan · 24/03/2011 17:32

I'm so pleased it arrived safely :) I'd better get on with my sewing!

Grumpla · 24/03/2011 19:58

What's the deadline for banner letters?

They should be around 12.5cm high rumpel - I can't remember which letter you have but that was the base size I used for all the letters

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 24/03/2011 23:05

12.5cm high not including sticky uppy bits, so if you have a f or something it would be a bit more than that.

I've got some fabric - it's tie-dyed sort of reddy pink. Could feasibly have been made with menstrual blood :o

bucaneve · 09/04/2011 15:05

Uhm, I don't suppose someone would like to give me a deadline to do my letter by, otherwise I will never start, this way I can leave it till a couple of hours before the deadline then panic and actually do it! TIA Grin

Patienceobtainsallthings · 08/05/2011 23:56

How is the banner doing ?
Just saw this thread and wondered how you were getting on,hope to join you all on a march someday .

notenoughsocks · 13/05/2011 20:56

I haven't done mine yet either...

Where are we supposed to be sending them, again?

UmYeahLikeTotally · 20/05/2011 20:43

I've started mine, sewn about 100 beads on so far but got so much left to do. Glad other people aren't finished yet either!!

bucaneve · 20/05/2011 22:17

Oh thank goodness everyone else is lazy/scatterbrained/busy (delete as appropriate) too! I thought everyone else'd be done by now. Am about half way through. I've made my letter and wonder-webbed it but can't decide how to decorate it - I'm thinking glitter.

blackcurrants · 23/05/2011 14:35

You must keep crafting, you inspirational crafters, because while I never know if I'm moving back to the UK if I EVER do I am going to march behind this banner at some point (probably while remembering this thread and creasing up in laughter) - so don't stop crafting!

Can I just check....what colour is the background of the banner going to be?

My letter is made of dark purple felt-type stuff, with white shimmery beads around the edges and little female symbols sewn around too.

I'm hoping this won't clash too much with other people's letters / the background!
