Feminist crafters, how about we make a MN banner to march behind?

don't you think?

a big cloth one with beanpoles (and tassles at the corners, in manner of old trade union banners) carried by 2 people.

ideally it would be appliqued but could be painted instead.

I think we should do this because:

  1. trade union style banners are a fabulous craft tradition that should be continued
  2. doing one for Mumsnet would bring together old and new in a way that I think would make people look twice
  3. lovely banners increase the visual appeal of a march and thus encourage people to look again and hopefully see the slogany ones
  4. there were so many of us at MWR, probably 40-50 including children, surely a contingent that size needs a banner?

wdyt?

Yep, you can help! Mooncup and poster paints at the ready Grin

bucaneve · 17/03/2011 16:30

Thanks for my 'S' ChristinedePizan :) Just realised tho, I know have to decide what to paint/draw/sew on it!

::gets overwhelmed by choice::

ChristinedePizan · 17/03/2011 16:44

I know bucaneve! I've done the easy bit :o

Here's the logo with the bottle swapped for a feminist symbol (think that was dittany's idea)

I am going away for the weekend tomorrow so I might not have time to post it before I go but you'll have it by Tuesday latest ssm.

I won't cut out the web address because I think we were going to put that somewhere else weren't we?

Grumpla · 17/03/2011 23:43

I think that the main Mumsnet should adopt that version of the logo Smile

Got my letter, now furiously trying to remember which box I packed my bondaweb in...

I might embroider mine with Toby Young tied to a stake being martyed by a bunch of laptop-wielding harpies... Wink

steamedtreaclesponge · 18/03/2011 10:31

I might dye mine red with the blood of the patriarchy...

anyone got any spare patriarchs that they don't need?

steamedtreaclesponge · 18/03/2011 10:32

My next piece of craft work is definitely going to be a cross-stitch sampler saying 'fuck the patriarchy'.

I think that would look lovely in my bedroom Grin

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 18/03/2011 10:32

LOVE the new logo! Have MNHQ demanded a high res copy for their own use yet? :o

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 18/03/2011 10:34

hahahahaha treacle you are obsessed with the blood of the patriarchy, am rofling at "spare patriarchs". The house of lords is full of them, they've got loads of hereditary peers they don't need.

I have the mooncup but no poster paints sadly.

steamedtreaclesponge · 18/03/2011 10:45

I know

I am obsessed Blush

Perhaps I could storm the house of lords with my feminist cavalry?

ChristinedePizan · 18/03/2011 10:55

I have a mooncup and poster paints

treacle - you have seen that feminist cross-stitch website haven't you?

I've probably got a few spare patriarchs lying around

It was Engelbert's - v good idea :)

FlamingoBingo · 18/03/2011 11:04

I've got sea sponge tampons - might kill a patriarch and do sponge printing with his blood - whaddya think?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 18/03/2011 11:07

Is it just me really really hoping the DM read this and do a story?

YES to feminist cavalry, treacle. When are we going to start that regiment?

steamedtreaclesponge · 18/03/2011 11:11

As soon as I've got on the list for exercising the household cavalry's horses, Elephants Wink

Flamingo, that sounds lovely. Why not get the children involved too? Good, healthy feminist fun for all the family.

Christine - do you have a link to that website? Don't think I have seen it actually...

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 18/03/2011 11:13

poster paints might wash out, blood stains are much more permanent.

FlamingoBingo · 18/03/2011 11:15

steamedtreacle. They would love that!

FlamingoBingo · 18/03/2011 11:17

I like sometimes, because I am a saddo, to try and fit what we do each day into the national curriculum (we don't have any structure or curricula in our home ed approach).

Would be so fab to do that with this project:

Art - sponge tampon printing using the medium of a newly-deceased patriarch's blood

Sociology - frank discussion on how fucking shit women's lives are thanks to arsehole patriarchs, of whom we are now thankfully one less

Flamingo - I am laughing REALLY loudly at that in the office. I want to go to your school :o

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 24/03/2011 16:40

I have just received the template of the logo from ChristinedePizan - it's fabulous! And looks like it really will work....

still need to send Bucaneve some bondaweb - anyone else?

Would you mind sending me some please?

I'm glad you posted as I have just this minute returned from an unsuccessful shopping trip trying to find the flipping stuff! it would do me a great favour if you have any going spare. :)
