To build on the success of the Lionesses and the increasing interest in women's football, we are starting a brand new thread to continue celebrating the beautiful game Football

Enjoy!

I just don't trust Infantino or Fifa.

No. It is ridiculous that they have so much power and we cannot do anything about it.

BellaAmorosa · 03/05/2023 18:03

It would be more tolerable if they did have a genuine interest in women's football. But the appointment of a lingerie model as the World Cup ambassador and the mooted appointment of Saudi Arabia as a sponsor tells me they have none.

DuncinToffee · 03/05/2023 18:12

Exactly

Indeed. I am praying!

@BellaAmorosa

Well, Liverpool did us a big favour. Let's hope Man U can beat City next week too.

Indeed. Good reminder to us not to be complacent against Brighton, as well.

Yes. Very worried about Chelsea and Villa. I wonder if Nobbs will have something to prove. We could do with her playing for us now.

DuncinToffee · 07/05/2023 20:41

Sorry for not helping against Chelsea, we have got hammered.

No problem. Sorry about your thrashing.

I don't think Chelsea are going to drop any points at all for the rest of the season.

BellaAmorosa · 07/05/2023 21:59

So sorry about the result, @DuncinToffee. I stopped following after it got to five, so I don't even know what the final score was. The general trajectory of the club is upwards, though, isn't it?

@MustTryHarderAndHarder
Sodding Chelsea. No, I can't see them dropping points either, sadly. secretly hopes this is a reverse jinx

DuncinToffee · 08/05/2023 21:19

The club is definitely going in the right direction, that's why the result was unexpected. We just fell apart after the first goal.

It's exciting at the top.

Great result for Arsenal.

Hope Geo is ok.

BellaAmorosa · 11/05/2023 06:23

We can't just have a nice win, can we? Have to pay for it with yet another injury. Grumble, grumble...
But Caitlin Foord is back, which is a huge plus.

We've got Everton next!

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 11/05/2023 09:21

Yes, it was great to see Caitlin back.

So pleased for Palova. She works so hard.

Yes, Everton next.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 17/05/2023 21:08

Another injury. Poor Waalti.

We were watching the U17 Euros this afternoon. Michelle Agyemang has scored 4 goals in 2 games. She came on for the main team a few games ago. It was really good game. We beat Sweden 3-1.

DuncinToffee · 17/05/2023 22:39

Hope her injury isn't too bad, Aggie Beever Jones is devestated about it.

OP posts:
MustTryHarderAndHarder · 18/05/2023 09:26

Yes, I am sure she didn't mean to do it.

We really need Man U to beat City on Sunday and we should get top 3.

BellaAmorosa · 19/05/2023 16:25

Thank goodness, Lia Walti's injury is not as bad as feared. No break or dislocation detected, scans of ankle ligaments look "promising". She will need about 6 weeks to recover, so should still make the WC at which she will captain Switzerland. I was so sure it was a broken ankle/leg or at the very least a bad dislocation, that I'm almost giddy with relief. It's such a shame we (Arsenal) can't have her for the rest of the season but at least she'll be good to go next season. Unless something awful happens at the WC... (shudders)

BellaAmorosa · 19/05/2023 16:29

@MustTryHarderAndHarder
I know I'm an idiot for it, but I still haven't given up hope of the title or at least second place! I really want us to avoid preseason qualifiers for the CL. Involvement in those could derail our season before it's even started.

Regarding the U17 tournament, I'm following our girls as well on BBC iPlayer. It's a good watch - a little harum-scarum which I suppose is down to their age, but we look good. The France match will be a test - I'm so looking forward to it.

DuncinToffee · 19/05/2023 16:32

Good to hear that update on Walti.

OP posts:
MustTryHarderAndHarder · 19/05/2023 17:00

@BellaAmorosa

That's great news.

I forgot about the qualifiers, I was just concerned about CL. It will be difficult to win tomorrow without Walti though and AV are a tough team too.

Yes, looking forward to the France match tomorrow. The commentators on the Sweden match said that France have a real star (can't remember her name) , so it will be tough.

I watched some of the U17 men's match yesterday against Croatia and Ethan Nwari scored the only goal. But everyone thinks that he is going to leave Arsenal for some reason.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 19/05/2023 17:04

Perhaps Liverpool can do us another favour and beat Man U for us like they did City.

From your lips to God's ears!

I haven't kept up with the men's youth teams, I'm sorry to say. I always used to but haven't for the last few years. I did see the FA Youth Cup final though. Disappointing result, but some very interesting looking players. West Ham were enormous. What on earth are they feeding their lads???
