New thread before old one is full.

Day 1 of level 3 done here Grin. I chucked out asked my visitors to go for a walk for half an hour or so. I found it pretty hard tbh. I always managed the harder versions in level 1 and 2, but this time round I struggled and had to finish some of the sets on the modified versions. Especially the jumping lunges, and I couldn't do the full sit-ups. I took my measurements today; the only significant difference is my waist, where I've lost 2 inches! My thighs and tummy are about half an inch smaller (but the tummy measurement is only from about a week ago, not from the very start). My hips are the same, but I wasn't carrying much extra weight there anyway.

MissModular well done on reaching the halfway point! I'm trying to stick to a 1500 cal/day diet as well as Shredding (and also running twice a week, and sometimes doing aerobics or kickboxing after the Shred).

Teuch I'm guessing that you're somewhere in the North of Scotland? Hope Shredding with a hangover isn't too painful.

prettybird my pushup attempts were pretty poor when I started, and I had to do the 2nd lot of plank jacks at half speed at first. By the end of level 2 I saw a lot of improvement though :)

MumInBeds · 21/09/2010 11:23

Done my day 7 of 12 at L1. I weighed today, 2lbs down, not loads but it puts me back in the 'healthy' bmi.

tulpe · 21/09/2010 22:12

Hi all :)

Took a day off yesterday - could have fitted it in the evening but was consumed by PMS related can't be arsed-ness :o

So, completed Day 7 of Level 1 today. Played the disc on my laptop whilst I watched last 10 mins of EastEnders and first 10 mins of Holby which definitely helped me not think about it all too much. I think I am beginning to reach my boredom threshold with this set of exercises. HOwever, I can definitely see a difference already - less wobble on my thighs, the beginnings of calf muscle definition and almost all "cottage cheese" upper arm effect has disappeared :o

notyummy · 22/09/2010 08:21

Wel, done on the healthy BMi mums and your inch loss busy - impressive.

Have been doing things other than shredding - Billy Blanks Bootcamp Workout yesterday(good to try once you have finished perhaps for a change?? Good to change routines and keep challenging your body...) 5 mile run on Sunday. Off to the gym today.

MumInBeds · 22/09/2010 11:01

I missed your post yesterday Busy, sorry. Congrats on the inch loss, 2 inches off the waist it wonderful!

I know what you mean about boredom tulpe, I've taken to listen to podcasts on earphones while working out.

I wish I could say I do other things notyummy but I don't, not yet anyway - unless you count an hour a day walking for the school run.

BusyMissIzzy · 22/09/2010 12:26

An hour walking every day is pretty good MuminBeds. And congrats on your weightloss; 2lb in a week is good going. I don't think I've lost much weight, but I'm definitely noticing a visible difference; thighs and bum more toned, love handles smaller and less wobbly. tulpe Sounds like you're doing well too, noticing a difference after a week. That'll be the "not resting so you force your body to adapt and change" Grin

Level 3 day 2 here. Managed a few more of the harder versions before I had to switch to the easy versions. It's the jumping squats (where you switch legs, forward and back), and sumo squats that I'm finding hardest. Trying to push myself though! Planned to do 20mins kickboxing after, but DD woke up.

Speaking of doing other exercise as well, in case anyone is interested Wink, my typical workout week looks like this:
Mon - Shred
Tues - Shred, 20mins kickboxing (Davina McCall)
Wed - Shred
Thurs - Shred, 20mins aerobics (also D McC)
Fri - Shred
Sat - Shred, 3 mile run
Sun - 5 or 6 mile run

Fimbles and detoxdiva, how are you getting on with level 3?

detoxdiva · 23/09/2010 09:26

Wow Busy - that's impressive! I used to run a bit, but fitting it in around both dc and dh and mu jobs is more difficult than it used to be Grin

I had a little break of 2 days due to having to do 2 late shifts at work so have just done day 2 of level 3 today, but am on track now to do 10 days in a row as no more lates for over a week now Grin. Did try some of the advanced plank moves but these are the ones I struggle with.

Have a wedding reception to go to in 8 days so am going to try to really cut out the fat and excess carbs for the next week to be as trim as possible!!

prettybird · 23/09/2010 09:34

Had a day off yesterday (but did an hour's walking) but have just done Day 3 of Level 2 (Day 11 in total).

Survived.

BusyMissIzzy · 24/09/2010 11:08

Well done prettybird, you're almost halfway there :)

I know what you mean about finding time to run once you have DCs detoxdiva, I used to run 10 miles at the weekend and 6 miles twice a week, before work. Now, with 6mo DD, I can only really run at weekends when DH is around, and would feel bad about going off for 2 hours or more, so stick to shorter distances.

Have done level 3 day 4 this morning. Getting better (but stil not great) at the jumping lunges and managing a bit higher on rockstar jumps. Also managing to do full sit-ups now, but not as fast as Jillian & co! Also, I was getting carpet burns from the ab hold (plank position on elbows) and side plank raises, but they seem to be getting better.

detoxdiva · 25/09/2010 14:55

Day 3 of level 3 here and I'm trying to do a bit more - inspired by some of you ladies who manage to fit in running and extra exercise! For the past 2 days I've dug out an old '10 minute solution' dvd and have done the thigh and bum workout after shredding. Have also discovered that Jazzercise has arrived in my town so am going along for my free taster lesson on Wednesday as hopefully that'll be something I can do twice a week on my days off.

To everyone who's at the beginning of the shred and finding it tough....today I am wearing a pair of jeans that were too tight to do up 23 days ago Grin So stick with it ladies - it's done great things to my thighs!!

notyummy · 25/09/2010 16:42

managed levels 1 and 2 back to back yesterday although its fair to say I ache a bit today! Just off for a Yoga session and then tomorrow is 'long run day'. Trying to stretch it to 10 miles, but time always against me. Will aim for 8 miles in an hour probably - particularly if it stays as windy as this.

BusyMissIzzy · 25/09/2010 19:15

notyummy you are officially Hardcore. I am sooo slow at running right now, it's probably jogging really; I manage about 5 miles an hour, maybe 5.5 if I push myself Blush

Well done on fitting into your jeans detoxdiva. I'm also currently wearing skinny jeans that wouldn't go over my thighs about a month ago. P.S. I saw on another thread that you've bought high-wasited jeans, and am Envy, as I couldn't get away with them.

Level 3 day 5 this morning, and a 3 mile run. Only 5 days to go! I'm trying to push myself quite hard in the run up to my clothes shopping trip this Friday. I'm hoping to do a bit of a post-baby wardrobe revamp, so if nothing fits me I'll be blaming Jillian.

Fimbles and TrollyDolly, are you still around?

detoxdiva · 25/09/2010 19:35

Busy - don't be Envy - I wouldn't dream of wearing them with a top tucked in but they are fab at smoothing everything out under a long top Grin Well done on the run - I'd love to be able to get out and exercise a bit more, but if I'm not working late, then dh is so my exercise is mostly indoors!

Fimbles5 · 26/09/2010 18:14

I'm still around!! but i'm afraid to say I have fallen from the wagon :( In my defence I have had a really bad bout of tonsillitus/chest infection so therefore exercise has been out of the question. I feel really disappointed at not seeing level 3 through to the end, but having not done the shred for three days think it is better to start again at level one. So am shortly off to join Gillian back at day one. Well done to all those who are still battling on and who are close to completing their shred. I am in awe of you all. Well done X
P.s. I'm afraid you will now have me hanging around this thread for another 30 days Grin

mummytowillow · 26/09/2010 22:40

OK, someone please tell me in a nutshell about Shred??

I've got another two and half stone to lose, been doing Weight Watchers, but fed up of it and have been off it and stuffing my face for three weeks now!! Wink

notyummy · 27/09/2010 08:42

Mummy - It is 20 mins of exercise a day for 30 days. Should be couple with helathy eating/diet for maximum results. Idea is to build lean muscle and shed body fat. Very effective if stuck to! Only 20 mins so nearly everyone can fit it in....however it is 'proper' exercises....and by that I mean it is not pootling about like some Lorraine Kelly/Rosemary Conley DVDs. Unless you are fairly fit already you will find it quite hard to being with....BUT because it is short, just as you think you are going to die then she either moves on to another exercise or it is all over. Frankly it is how body sculpting exercoise should be - lots of people kid themselves on that that a few sit-ups and 20 mins 'jogging' on a treadmill is going to make them look like Jessica Alba and can't understand why they still have a tummy!

notyummy · 27/09/2010 08:42

Sorry about all the typos in that Blush

BusyMissIzzy · 27/09/2010 09:47

Just to add to what notyummy said, the DVD is broken down into 3 levels, level 1 being the easiest and level 3 the hardest. You start on level 1 for 10 days, then move to level 2, then level 3. The idea is that each level is hard to begin with but after 10 days your strength and endurance have increased and you're ready to move up to the next level.

Level 3 day 6 done here, and 20mins kickboxing. Feel like I'm on the home stretch now, which is good, but also aware that these last few days are not going to alter my body that much more. I'll take all my measurements again at the end and let you know! I'm still finding level 3 tough, particularly the plyometrics. But I'm getting slightly better at it each time.

Fimbles are you really starting again from scratch? I'm sure you could just restart level 3, or even level 2. You're mental Grin

prettybird · 28/09/2010 11:10

I used to run :( Have done 3 marathons and numerous haalf marathons - but the last half was about 6 years ago and I knackered my achilles tendon. Have to be really careful starting up again a nd even doing a couple of miles and loads of stretching afterwards, it still "goes" again :(

So the SHred is a good alternative :)

However, have to admit to having had four days off. In my defence, it was a long holiday weekend here in Glasgow, with ds off school on Friday and Monday and I find it really hard to do while he is around. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it Blush

Have now done Day 12 - 4th on Level 2. Getting a bit better - my squat jumps and jumping jacks, although I wouldn't say they are getting bigger (they are still tiny Blush), at least I am now doing the jump version thoughout as opposed to Anita's non-impact version.

BusyMissIzzy · 28/09/2010 21:42

I'm always in awe of anyone who has run a marathon prettybird. I was gearing up to a (hypothetical) half marathon last year, but then got pregnant..

Level 3 day 7 done. Only 3 days to go! Almost kept pace with Anita on the sit-ups this time, but still finding the plyometrics difficult.

BusyMissIzzy · 29/09/2010 18:32

Where is everyone? I can't be the only one Shredding... unless I've killed the thread, which is something I seem to be good at :(Blush

Only got 2 days to go before I'm done. I'll take measurements and weigh myself probably on Saturday, and post the results. Eek!

prettybird · 29/09/2010 23:25

Completed Day 13 today. Really didn't want to do it but got round to it eventually Grin

Never measured myslef before I started - keep on thinking of doing so even now.....

saltcod · 30/09/2010 09:51

Hi everyone, have just completed day 8 or 9 (lost count!) of level 1. Starting to think about level 2 now - is it a lot tougher? There are still a couple of bits on level 1 that I can't fully manage - the jump rope (hurts my feet!) and the arm raises (the ones that are done with the side lunges. Can manage everything else ok & still have enough energy to do the couch to 5k session afterwards. Should I stay on level 1 though until I can do everything? I'm also wondering how much it matters that I don't manage the dvd every evening - probably only 3 or 4 times per week?

Prettybird - def. take some measurements. Most people seemed to lose more inches than pounds so the results should still give you a boost.

notyummy · 30/09/2010 10:23

I am still here! I don't shred everyday. Did level 3 on Tuesday, quite a hard gym session yesterday and then lonnnnngg run in the lovely weather today I think.

I would move on Saltcod. Level 2 is harder, definitely, however if you can do level 1 relatively easily then you are ready for it. (I think those side lunges/arm raises are hard too, and I had loads of circuits/conditioning before doing the shred as a change.)

prettybird · 30/09/2010 10:44

Day 14 completed :) Still to go for my shower.

I'll try and find a tape measure somewhere.

I found those side lunges difficult too - and I was only using 1kg weights Blush Had started to use 2kg for the "Fly" raises though.

On Level 2 I'm finding the V raises difficult. I'm keeping to 1kg for everything except the strength lunges (static and forward and back) in Circuit 2, where I use 2kg.

Find the walking pushups really difficult (not helped by the fact that I have very short arms) and only do a nominal arm bend. But then, I was only doing the bent knee press-ups in Level 1.
