I'm thinking of doing this workout, but just how much do you ache the next day? I look after pre school aged children so need to be able to lift them etc.

I'm more of a runner and have never done anything like this before!

PS> Also I'm going on hols in 21 days, would love to be able to continue to do it on holiday (without the weights), is it easy to remember?

Joby1970 · 03/08/2010 16:37

NAVY - i would deff do it for the first time on a Friday night or a Saturday - so you can have a couple of days before you need to deal with the kids. after the first time it does get easier. ALso the more you move the less it hurts. I ached a lot cox I'm sat at a desk in work & you seize up.

Go for it

ChristianaTheSeventh · 03/08/2010 21:55

I find I'm not too sore (have just done day 9 of level one)

justaminute i'm just moving on to week 2 of running tomorrow. Love it.

Tortoise · 03/08/2010 22:20

Day 17 done. Missed a couple of days again. Harder to fit it in during school hols!

Navy I don't tend to ache at all the next day. Makes me wonder if i am doing it right!

Hi ladies!

Am still shredding, although not the 'every day' version. Am doing levels 2 and 3 back-to-back twice a week, plus my usual running, pilates and crosstraining.

For those of you who have completed the programme or looking for a change, can i recommend this?

Not easy, but very good - and cheesy fun! Did it last night for the first time in ages and had forgotten how good it is.

TartyMcFarty · 04/08/2010 09:14

Day 17 for me today. Had a 3 day gap over the weekend due to a wedding and subsequent hangover tiredness, but right back on it for the last 2 days, followed by a 10 min session on my spin bike. Feel great - not losing weight (not bothering to diet as such any more until I start DD on solids) but really toning up and getting a waist

ChristianaTheSeventh · 04/08/2010 09:15

I think I'm toning too. DAy 10 here - should I be moving up to level 2 tomorrow (scared!)

dillinger · 04/08/2010 09:21

Hi all, wondered if I could join for some motivation. I did last thurs and fri but none since, though I do run.

Im going to read through this thread now (ok maybe not all of it) and hope it gives me a kick in the right direction!

racmac · 04/08/2010 09:58

I have done day 5 of level 2 today - feeling very good that sticking to it most days.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 04/08/2010 10:08

racmac did you move up to level 2 on day 11?

dillinger welcome. remember it's only 20 minutes - you can do it!

Skimummy · 04/08/2010 10:26

Hi all!

I am still shredding as well although not every day as am now running alternate days. It's not going toooooo badly. I have a 5km run early September and, while I know I can run 5km, I want to do it without looking too red and exhausted!

Thanks for the DVD rec notyummy - not sure I can tear myself away from Jillian just yet but if her new DVD doesn't work out when it arrives I might try it.

For those who asked, the Biggest Loser USA is on Sky1 on Monday nights and then (I think) repeated on SkyRealLives through the week. Jillian is very tough!

notyummy · 04/08/2010 10:38

Christiana - i would say it is time to move up - although there is quite a jump from 1 to 2 I think. More so than from 2 to 3. Def worth giving it a go, even if you have to do the easy version of everything.

I am currently working on my running too skimummy. I did 2.6 miles in 20 minutes at the gym the other day. Apparently 5km is 3.1 miles, so I would like to be able to do that in 22 minutes. I think this could help bring my 10k time down to the sub-50 minutes I am aiming for - done 50 mins 45 seconds, but never got under the 50 minutes barrier!

Am doing tabata efforts sessions as a way of making me stronger!

racmac · 04/08/2010 10:47

Christianna - i did 9 days on level 1 then moved up - Im thinking about moving up to level 3 now.

(I am quite fit though - not long done a half marathon but now injured so concentrating on this rather than running)

racmac · 04/08/2010 10:51

notyummy - how long is the DVD - I like the shred because its 20 minutes and i can fit that in around the kids - dont think i could manage any longer

notyummy · 04/08/2010 10:57

It's longer Racmac, although split into sections, so can be broken up. It isn't on seperate sections on the DVD i.e you can't navigate between them - would have to fast forward.

15ish minutes warm up.

20/25 minutes full on circuit - can be done with or without exercise band.

10 minutes killer abs and bottom/thighs.

I have done a lot of other ones (inc Nell McAndrews, whom lots of people think does quite hard ones) - and havent found one like this that is really challenging, but doesn't get boring.

racmac · 04/08/2010 11:15

maybe i could save it for once a week when i have bit more time. Is it really hard or is it doable - how does it compare to Jillian.

I was thinking maybe we should get her on here for mumsnet chat!

notyummy · 04/08/2010 11:44

Overall, I would say slightly harder than Jillian - there are a few really killer bits - press-ups, squat thrusts, abs/gluts sections. They are spread out over the time, interspersed with slightly easier stuff.

It feels deceptive at the start - you think, 'ooh, this isn't too bad!' - however when section 2 starts (if you are doing it with the 'Billy Bands', then it KILLS! There is an offer on Amazon for £15 I think where you get 2 or 3 boot camp DVDs inc this one, and the 'Billy Band'. (Naff, I know!!)

racmac · 04/08/2010 12:18

Most of them seem to be region 1 DVDs and im not sure if mine would work - it plays copies but i dont want to waste my cash

notyummy · 04/08/2010 12:31

This is the version I have which def isn't region 1. I use a pilates band that I already had with it, although I think you can 'authentic' Billy Bands separately - scroll down here

Joby1970 · 04/08/2010 13:14

is it just me or has the Shred DVD made you more open to trying (& even enjoying ) other types of exercise?

For me the SHRED made me understand I could exercise at a higher level & now I'm a gym bunny!

TartyMcFarty · 04/08/2010 14:30

It's made me want to try spin circuits but I'm not doing any exercise in public till the boobs have deflated

Altaira · 04/08/2010 19:25

I am on day 4 of level one, but have no fitness and am finding it challenging to say the least.

I tend to follow easy anita, but should I aim for Natalie's effort and moves before I go to level 2?

Although it is hard for me, I am not in quite so much 'day after' pain now, and look forward to doing it!

Tortoise · 04/08/2010 22:14

Altaira It is fine for you to follow Anita for as long as you need to that is why she is there. Even if you do the easy version in workout 2 and 3. You ma find by the time you have done 30 days and start over again, that you can start to follow Natalie more often.

Day 18. Just 2 days until WO 3 and i am dreading it! Worked extra hard and pushed myself more tonight and my thighs and arms are hurting! I still can't do the v raises while squatting for more than a few reps the have to stop arms for a bit. Don't know why i find them so much harder than the rest. Find it hard to get the plank position right too.

OP posts:
Altaira · 05/08/2010 06:54

Thanks for the advice- that's a relief! I'll keep following anita for now..

Joby1970 · 05/08/2010 08:06

Tortoise: I think I can speak for nearly everyone on here when I say V raises with squats is poss the hardest exercise on the DVD.
