hi guys can i join? I'm thinking of starting the 30 day shred. I've lost 3.5 stone since october last year basically healthy eating and thru davina fit workout about 4 times a week. Would still like to lose about another stone and tone up big time!! From what i have heard this is gonna be hard but I'm prepared to put in the work. Do i need to buy any equipment like weights to go with the dvd?

notyummy · 27/07/2010 13:21

You will need weights - some people start with cans, but you will need weights firaly quickly after that, as cans arent heavy enough to give you an effective workout.

Argos/Tesco etc have fairly cheap and effective weights sets.

howdidthishappentome · 27/07/2010 13:57

thanks notyummy. Yes i've been using cans to do davina but meaning to buy weights for a long time now. i'm gonna get the dvd and weights today while i'm still keen!

ChristianaTheSeventh · 27/07/2010 21:39

Hello, can I join in too please?

I received the DVD yesterday and have done yesterday and today at level one. Feel AMAZING but a bit jelly legged. Loving it!

Just wondered - do people use different weights for different exercises? I have one set of weights (1.5kg), which are great for most of the exercises but I think I could do more for the one where you lay down and bring the weights up to meet above your chest (you can see I don't often do weights!)

And should I carry on doing level one until I can do a full press up or can I move to level two after 10 days on Level One?

notyummy · 27/07/2010 22:07

I use different weights for different exercises( 1.5, 3kg and 5kg.) Not everyone does though!

I am sure there are people who gave done the whole programme whilst not being able to do a full press up. Once you have done 30 days then you can start again and vow do the hard version of all the exercises then!

Don't work out TOO hard though, or else your brain will be replaced with muscle... like poor Natalie

ChristianaTheSeventh · 27/07/2010 23:01

Undertone

Where do you get weights from (I was given my 1.5kg weights by a friend)? Are they expensive?

I noticed that Natalie doesn't do the squats in one bit, when Jillian goes over to show super-abs girl - she's cheating!

LC200 · 28/07/2010 07:51

Christiana, I've noticed that too. Bad Natalie!

I have nearly completed the programme, and still can't do a full push-up. It depends quite a bit on your body and what bits of it are already strong etc. I tend to struggle less with the abs sections than the others, but I used to sing semi-professionally, so have toned tummy muscles from that. My shoulders on the other hand are those of a pale and pasty four year old girl. But they are getting better!

I tend to do whichever level I feel up to on the day. Am usually doing 3 now, but if I am feeling a bit delicate I do a Level 1. Am using a 2kg weight, but agree that for some exercises I could do a bit more.

notyummy · 28/07/2010 08:15

Christiana - I got my weights some time ago as a pressie from DH. You can buy a set from Argos/Tesco/Asda etc for under £20 though.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 28/07/2010 09:28

OK, will have a look thanks!

Do you combine this with any other exercise, I have a jelly belly from my last pregnancy so think I might need to do a bit more cardio (a bit of running three times a week, maybe couch to 5k?) to burn off my excess fat.

Wow, to those who've nearly completed programme - if you had any cellulite have you seen any improvement? Just wondered. It's not a massive issue for me but I'm about to turn 35 and I figure that I need to get my fitness in hand. I used to be naturally fit and slim and toned of leg and tummy... and no longer am...

Joby1970 · 28/07/2010 12:43

notyummy - I'm starting a 6 week boot camp tonight - will think of you & your army workouts whilst doing it

Tortoise · 28/07/2010 16:21

Right! I have to get back into this. Booked holiday today for 21st August! That gives me 3 weeks to make a difference.

notyummy · 28/07/2010 17:31

Enjoy the bootcamp Joby

ChristianaTheSeventh · 28/07/2010 17:55

Owwww I've finished day three and found it tough... Anyone else? I'm determined not to have a rest day but scared about tomorrow!

yummytummy · 28/07/2010 19:39

hi, just a question how do u all stay motivated to shred every day (or most days?) am on day 11 now having missed the odd day in between and am on level 2. its killer! can only just do the easy moves and have to rest alot. really have to force myself. cant see getting to level 3 at this rate. is it much harder?

detoxdiva · 28/07/2010 20:20

Hi

Well DVD arrived today and got stuck straight in and did stage 1 tonight. Actually not as bad as I feared although I am too scared to look at what levels 2 & 3 look like! Am just using tins of beans as weights though until I get braver!

I'll join joby in my own personal bootcamp as am determined to do it every day until my holiday on 20th Aug which gives me 24 days to make a bit of a difference

shinybootsofleather · 28/07/2010 20:58

Just wait until tomorrow detoxdiva. I couldn't walk down the stairs without saying "ow" on every step

detoxdiva · 28/07/2010 21:00

ha ha - yes....am a bit worried about what I'll look like at work tomorrow

Joby1970 · 29/07/2010 08:11

Detoxdiva - good luck on your own personal boot camp - how are you feeling today. I agreee with SBOL - the next morning after the 1st shred session I was moving slower than by 66 year old mum! It was hilarious.

Bootcamp (1st session) was OK - we had to do fitness test - the bleep test & sit ups & press ups etc... hated the bleep test

racmac · 29/07/2010 08:41

Joby1970- where is the bootcamp? Ive always fancied doing one of those but doesnt seem to be any local enough.

Did 9 days on level 1 and have just done 2nd day on level 2 - feeling it though.

Cant run at the mo as injured but going to try a swim later.

Naetha · 29/07/2010 08:53

Hi all, haven't been on for a while - been very busy! Well, I finished the shred - took 6 weeks as I don't do it on weekends, but feeling very fit afterwards. Had a week off when parents and in-laws came to visit, and I've started shredding again. On day 5 of level 1.

I was surprised at how hard level 1 was though, even the second time round! And I'm still nowhere near doing a full press up!

notyummy · 29/07/2010 08:55

Everyone gets really competitive over the bleep test, even if they try to hid it!

Skimummy · 29/07/2010 08:58

Hi all!

I am still shredding but less as have started running as well. So I am doing alternate days running and shredding. I have actually found it really exhausting but hopefully just need to get used to it. Running is sooooooo not my thing.

Anyone else watching the Biggest Loser on Monday nights? Jillian is SCARY!!

notyummy · 29/07/2010 08:59

What channel is it on skimummy?
