See I just can't do that. Can't just not eat, when people around me are eating delicious food. I can do it somethings (for example if I've just a snack not long before ) but just not eat anything? Nah. Hmm maybe thats why I'm on a diet thread!!!!

chibi · 02/05/2010 15:02

agree pointydog diet food is crapola

better to have what you fancy even if rarely/in microscopic amounts

bobbie what do you do for protein now?

CheeeseOnToast · 02/05/2010 15:02

I do avoid nuts though. Just cause I know if I buy a bag, "to last the week" I'll actually eat them all in a few days and that will be bad.

pointydog · 02/05/2010 15:04

reducing portion size helps me loads and eating whatever fruit and veg I want

dinkystinky · 02/05/2010 15:04

I have a q for su and the long distance runners - what do you eat post gym to fend off post-exercise munchies?

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 15:07

I am going to put a post it note on my big kitchen cupboard.

"NUTS SCHMUTS"

chibi · 02/05/2010 15:07

i run right before the evening meal so just eat when i get in but with an eye to portion control

usually just protein and heaps of veg ie yesterday's omelet and asparagus

other meals have been pan fried lightly smoked salmon and green beans

wild mushroom soup with meatballs (2 poss 3)

i initially went crazy after a run eating but am now accustomed to it + don't feel famished

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 15:09

For protein I do...

an egg for breakfast sometimes, or a couple for tea sometimes.

Fish. Lots.

Nuts.

Humous.

Pine nuts.

Parmesan cheese (about once a week).

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 15:11

Oh, and I do a bit of quorn and soya occasionally.

But I do try to avoid normally.

chibi · 02/05/2010 15:14

lentils would be a v good addition
in this house we eat

falafel
black bean burritos
tuscan bean soup
chickpea stews
spaghetti and lentil bolognese (good if you can have carbs otherwise )

we are not veggie but i try to do a veggie meal at least 1x a week

lentils v good as they satisfy like carbs, yet are protein

dinkystinky · 02/05/2010 15:14

What about quinoa (in salads) or bean based salads bobs - they could probably help you meet your protein reqs too (and having carbs in them too fill you up)?

fishie · 02/05/2010 15:15

dinky i don't get hungry post-run either and i go for 45mins-1hr several times a week. oddly i often fancy a cup of coffee. am sitting here in running clothes and must go but it is bloody horrible out there.

ds doesn't like potatoes so we don't bother with them any more. i also like gherkins and little pickled things.

if i don't eat enough protein my blood sugar goes v wonky hence my horrific weekday bacon roll habit.

dinkystinky · 02/05/2010 15:18

I'm generally ok if I exercise pre-breakfast or lunch as will just eat my meal post exercise - but if I exercise mid afternoon or early evening am fighting the desire to eat something till the next meal time. V envious of those who are not hungry post exercise - though not envying Fishie with her run (am meant to be doing some sprint training this long weekend at some point - am putting it off till tomorrow as is appalling out there).

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 15:19

Doesn't like potatoes??

I wish I didn't. I suspect my probs would be over.

Beans great idea.

Like beans.

Also like lentils.

Have cans of puy lentils in cupboard. Need to learn to make dahl.

DarrellRivers · 02/05/2010 15:22

All v helpful

Will weigh myself in 1 week

No more nuts

Will prepare large salad at supper time and eat LOTS of that rather than other family stuff

Some fruit tea infusions instead of chocolate for sweet snackage

I find a frozen weight watchers yoghurt lasts ages in the evening watching tv

(had green tea at starbucks, was a bit bleurgh but felt v virtuous)

SuSylvester · 02/05/2010 15:27

distraction techniques
WALK AWAY form the food scoffing area( eg staff room on firdays)

dinkystinky · 02/05/2010 15:27

How long do you put your yoghurt in the Freezer Darrell? I tried it with a muller light once when I started on WW and it was minging! Impressed at your green tea at starbucks- su will be proud.

SuSylvester · 02/05/2010 15:29

oh you poncey veggies - just eat some meat fgs

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 15:31

Don't Su..am that far from a sausage at all times.

DarrellRivers · 02/05/2010 15:32

put all yoghurts in freezer at beginning week
get out at least 30 mins prior to eating
the ww fromage frais suprisingly tasty

DarrellRivers · 02/05/2010 15:33

the main ting is that they take an age to eat as frozen, hence occupying hands and mouth for hours

CheeeseOnToast · 02/05/2010 15:37

ooh Darrel the idea of frozen yogs sounds delicious. I had a 90's throwback obsession of hunting down those strawberry mousses that were in small pots with a cardboard lid that you kept in freezer, and either defrosted fully so it was like an actual mouse, or eat it straight from the freezer as a solid almost-icecream affair. They were gorgeous, and I haven't found any

So I might try your idea instead . Post dinner biffage is (one of) my downfalls, DP insists on keeping cheese in the house (nice cheese too) as he is slim like a whippet and can eat whatever he likes . So come 10pm he gets out the little cheeseboard and crackers. It is really, really difficult to say no. The worst thing is, when he wants to lose weight he hardly has to think about it and has lost half a stone.

dinkystinky · 02/05/2010 15:39

Cheese - check out Tesco. Online has the Birds Frozen Strawberry Mousse (4 pots) which look v similar to the 80s numbers...

pointydog · 02/05/2010 15:39

dh lost a stone by accident recently and he looks so much better

SuSylvester · 02/05/2010 15:40

i cope wiht post dinner biffage by not eating dinner till 9pm
