sore throat like razors, glands all swollen. (actually all glands all swollen, i'm a lymphatic systemarama... oooh, didn't know i had glands there etc...)

still, if i don't eat anything today it might make up for atrocious biffage yesterday. fruit pastilled (for throat) biffed, chocolate biscuits biffed, bread biffed and HULA HOOPS. felt quite sick thereafter.

cocolepew · 02/05/2010 14:23

Oooooh no sore thraots are the worst. I had my tonsils out a year ago it was the best thing ever. I managed to put weight on while recuperating though. Damn those mini eggs.

cocolepew · 02/05/2010 14:24

tsk, throats. Rub Vicks all over your neck it really does help.

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 14:26

I love falafel, chibi.

Are they good for protein then?

Laughed at R4 today - on about how there is a recipe for a toast sandwich in Mrs Beeton - one thin slice of toast, two thick slices of white bread and salt and pepper.

I thought "yum".

Aitch · 02/05/2010 14:28

gosh, that thread, poor achilles.

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 02/05/2010 14:37

Yes, poor Achilles. Helped by you. Yay Aitch!

Aitch · 02/05/2010 14:39

it does sound like her medical care was good, actually, so, y'know... some credit there as well.

dinkystinky · 02/05/2010 14:41

Coco - am Nov 6th! DH is Nov 4th so he gets a day to run round finding me a better present than the one he's already bought

DM - sorry you're ill: thank god you're not freezing to death in a tent somewhere in the pouring rain eh? Hope you get better soon.

Is Su leading the answers to the qs?

Am not posting my diet for Friday (biffed on Maoms - no didnt make me happy, made me high as a kite on sugar and then slightly sick and in a blue funk when off sugar high) - cant even remember what I ate yesterday apart from Su salad for dinner (was yummy) plus couple of glasses of white wine and a G&slimline T. I generally eat tonnes more than anyone else on this thread I think - probably why am plateauing for months now. Though am working on portion control so while eat lots eat lots of little portions - now just need to pull back on eating lots..

Whoever asked, no weighing yourself daily isnt healthy - but I guess it is good in that it really brings it home to you how much your weight can vary during 24/48/etc hours and how scales arent the be all and end all. WWs recommending weighing in once a week only. Would suggest you need the same conditions to weighin each week too (same time, same clothes/no clothes etc) so the variances cant be too much.

Bobs- if you need carbs to fill you up, have some. But not loads - think 30% of your intake should be carbs, rest protein (suggested between 40-50%) and fruit/veg. Portion moderation is the way forward. And banning yourself from pret during the weekdays will help with the avoiding accidental biffage. Nuts are good - but I'm talking crazy liz-hurley type portions (didnt she used to diet by eating 12 almonds during the course of the day and then a tiny salad for dinner or something like that - literally all you can have are one or two nuts a go). Try combining carb and protein to fill you up for snacks - like oatcake/ryvita and reduced fat/home made homous. Evening snacks - pickled stuff or crudites - will soon bore you to death of evening snackage. I'm an emotional eater too - can keep it in check if I can get out to exercise otherwise dive head first into the nearest biffing food. Must find a different release mechanism for when cant get to gym/classes.

SuSylvester · 02/05/2010 14:41

Q: do you find scales make a big differnce? Should you just stick to the one set? How reliable is the wii fit scale? I am thinking of trying it out. NO IDEA RE WIFIT - YES I WONDER IF OLD FASHIONED MECHANICAL SCALES ARE BEST.

What do you snack on in the evenings NOTHING - RAISINS IF PUSHED

  • What can I have a bread replacement for lunch as I make sarnies a lot for picnics with girls and soup is not always practical to eat whiel walking round HAVE BREAD WITH SALAD ONLY?
isthatporridgeinyourzone · 02/05/2010 14:43

Enjoy the credit, Su'll be back in a minute and you'll have to post your food consumption for the past two days. She is then holding a Q & A session. Be afraid, be very afraid.

SuSylvester · 02/05/2010 14:44

I THINK one thing that helped me was INCREASING the veg ratio at tea a LOT.
last night we hac chiken breast with stif fried savoy cabbage and purple spouting
plate was RAMMED

have had MASSES of baguette and butter for lunch tho

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 14:45

dinky, that is fantastic advice.

I love pickled gherkins - and pickled eggs, come to think of it.

Hard to resist fistfuls of nuts - wonder whether it's worth avoiding them altogether?

Pret is a Thursday thing -it's the day I work at our shop, and it's just around the corner. But M&S not far away, and that's probably a better option.

Right - Bobbie's Pret Embargo starts here!

Aitch · 02/05/2010 14:46

it was a whole packed of those wee m and s butter biscuits with chocolate on. i wolfed.

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 14:47

Do I mean embargo?

SuSylvester · 02/05/2010 14:47

if there is NO SUITABLE lunch anywhere - say stuck in mac ds then DONT HAVE ANY
have a drink and a piece of fruit till you are in a biff free safe haven

dinkystinky · 02/05/2010 14:53

Yup - you mean embargo Bobs and glad you found my two pennysworht helpful. I think nuts are ok - but instead of taking a pack could you divide a pack up into portions (say 10 cashews or almonds or whatever is a portion) and only one of those is your allocation for the day. M&S definitely has better stuff for you to snack on - they do fruit pots/crudite type thingies with homous etc so may work better.

Lol at Su's mcd advice.

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 14:54

Don't have any lunch??

SuSylvester · 02/05/2010 14:54

no and no chuffing nuts
wtf are oyu lot ON?
nuts are fat.
if oyu miss lunch then the moemnt will pass and you can have a bigger tea

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 14:55

M&S also do count on us.

Very useful.

pointydog · 02/05/2010 14:55

they do grill their burgers you know.

Does drinking lots of water really help or is it a myth?

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 14:55

Lol at the moment will pass.

The Bobbie will pass out more like.

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 14:56

Nuts prob important for veggies.

But agree need to ration.

Pig on them.

pointydog · 02/05/2010 14:57

I never eat special diet food. I am agin it.

SuSylvester · 02/05/2010 14:58

nuts schmuts

nO WAY
dunno re water.
i have a diet coke for lunch - that helps
as does first glass of wine on empty tum

dinkystinky · 02/05/2010 15:00

Su - nuts are an important source of protein for veggies like Bobs. Agree the rest of us who are non-veggies should avoid nuts like plague (everyone other than Bobs and other veggies - remember when you see a nut they are the divvils food).

Drinking lots of water does help i think - fills you up and all those trips to the loo mean you have less time to stick your hand in the biscuit tin
