oh I forgot to tell you all, I went for a run yesterday. Managed about 6k, several stops, felt like a tough slog. Got home and ate four crackers with cheddar. I couldn't help it! I downed about a litre of squash to replace fluids and for a bit of sugar, but couldn't resist the cheese.

I will take on board the idea of planning exercise so it's right before dinner or lunch so I don't eat twice.

Oh, and GOOD NEWS. I am rejoining the gym on Tuesday! Have run through the finances with DP and we can afford it again, so Im going in and getting a 're-joiners' package which is only £35 a month, not bad. This means I can do classes during the day, including pilates which I desperately need for my back, which is screwed. Woop!! I am very excited. I am going to do at least four classes next week.

God I hate it when men say "I'm on a diet" and instantly drop a stone.

Bastards.

CheeeseOnToast · 02/05/2010 15:42

OH GOD dinky really!?!?

cyb · 02/05/2010 15:43

men always lose weight 'by accident' dont they? buggers. me thinks we notice and obsess too much

And NUTS to the NUTS embargo. A handful of nuts and raisins got me through many nights in the zone when I could easily have popped the bisuit tin lid.

Nuts are fatty yes but not bad for you if you only ahve a few. So ner. ( BETTER FOR YOU THAN FRIGGIN DIET COKE)

i think my birthday may be over.

CheeeseOnToast · 02/05/2010 15:46

See Su, that's why I'm on this thread. Tips like yours: eat dinner later. See, I always thought I should eat earlier (6pm would be my ideal, but DP doesn't get home till 7pm as it is) so by the time we eat it's usually 8ish and I stress about going to bed with a full stomach. But then of course, that gives me time to get slightly peckish around the time DP gets the cheese out. I think if we ate slightly later it would be better, as I would be still full from dinner and not want a late night snack. What also doesn't help is that DP gets up later than me, comes home later, goes to bed later, so we're on slightly different schedules/body clocks and it seems to be me that suffers/adapts (and scoffs)

CheeeseOnToast · 02/05/2010 15:47

Not sure my post just now makes much sense. Hopefully you know what I'm going on about

SuSylvester · 02/05/2010 15:47

SuSylvester · 02/05/2010 15:48

IT MAKES NO DIFFERNECE WHAT TIME YOU EAT THAT IS AN URBAN MYTH

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 15:48

But I like us to eat as a family!!!

cyb · 02/05/2010 15:50

Unless you like having indigestion and a cockadoodle poo

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 15:50

What's a cockadoodle poo?

I have a labradoodle.

Does that count?

smallishsheep · 02/05/2010 15:51

I eat later too. Half seven, eightish. Has made no difference to weight. And means I'm actually hungry when I eat, and so don't snack a few hours later. Not to mention it means I can actually eat in peace

SuSylvester · 02/05/2010 15:51

oh we do family hell meals at w/e

cyb · 02/05/2010 15:51

we eat as a family too. I can think of nothing worse than STILL being in chore mode at 9pm

CheeeseOnToast · 02/05/2010 15:52

oh really Su? What happens if you eat a huge dinner at 12pm then go straight to bed? Is it digested slower? Is the only side effect indigestion?

SuSylvester · 02/05/2010 15:52

oh fussy eaters here and they do blardy sport all year
we have cricket matched three times a week and trainign too

cyb · 02/05/2010 15:53

a cockadoodle poo is the urge to poo that wakes you up in the wee small hours

bobbiewickham · 02/05/2010 15:54

I don't do fussy eaters.

I tell them if they don't like it find another restaurant.

And I can't be doing with two sittings and two lots of pots.

And it's the only time we sit facing each other and not a screen/book.

So seven at the latest, usually.

SuSylvester · 02/05/2010 15:55

Myth
Food eaten late at night is more fattening.

Fact
Many diets tell you not to eat after a certain time in the evening. They say the body will store more fat because it is not burned off with any activity.

A study at the Dunn Nutrition Centre in Cambridge suggests otherwise.

Volunteers were placed in a whole body calorimeter, which measures calories burned and stored.

They were fed with a large lunch and small evening meal for one test period, then a small lunch and large evening meal during a second test period.

The results revealed the large meal eaten late at night did not make the body store more fat.

It's not when you eat that's important, but the total amount you consume in a 24-hour period.

Lyndel Costain adds: 'It is true that people who skip meals during the day, then eat loads in the evening are more likely to be overweight than those who eat regularly throughout the day.

'This may be because eating regular meals helps people regulate their appetite and overall food intake.'

cyb · 02/05/2010 15:57

(that was to the eating thing not the early morning dump )

SuSylvester · 02/05/2010 15:57

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 02/05/2010 16:00

At least 3 night s a week I don't have dinner. I know! But dh is away\out loads, don't eat lunch till 3.30 (don't get time between work and sch run) then don't need to eat again. So I dont.
