Bobbybee · 04/01/2010 21:57

I've just had my 1st attempt at a sw day today.
Would someone mind telling me if this sounds ok please?
I had
28g porridge made with water (he)
skinny cappuccino from pret (part he, part syn?)
baked potato and beans
banana
huuuge plate of bean stew and couscous (chick peas, kidney beans, chilli, onions, garlic, tomatoes, 1/2 tblsp olive oil) I was starving and did eat a large plateful
8 choc buttons

I feel like I ate loads. My 1st meetings on Thurs so I'll be more confident and knowledgable after that (hopefully!)

MamaG · 05/01/2010 07:21

Hi all

OK this time I'm giong to do it - just marking my spogt on the thread, i MUST get exercising too

FatGirlThin · 05/01/2010 07:35

Hi
I've just started SW and it is all a bit bamboozling at the moment! Can anyone tell me what they are having for breakfast? I haven't got time to cook up bacon, eggs etc before taking dc to school but don't want to get stuck in a rut of having porridge every morning.
Thanks

Have totally gorged over christmas-about 9lb on but sure some of that is bloating etc (wishful thinking)

Was meant to re join yesterday but eldest isnt back to school til thurs so have been kind of delaying going back on til then-am finding it harder than I thought to get back on the wagon.

Connie-I cant believe you lost over christmas-am so jealous-you must have the strongest willpower!

MamaG -where did you go?! You were here then gone! Need to execise too but just cant face it!

Bobbybee · 05/01/2010 22:16

Thanks Shreksmissus. I meant the porridge as a he (can't remember if its a or b) I made it with water.

I had a similar day today but dinner was a huge pile of couscous salad. I mean loads. I was so hungry by the evening. Am I really going to lose weight like this? It seems a bit unbelievable.
I had a mini pack of choc buttons. I think thats about 4 syns?

QandA · 07/01/2010 16:41

Hello everyone I thought this thread would be busier after everyone goes on a New year health kick!

lorrycat, can you please not name chocolate, I find I instantly want whatever is mentioned At least you will feel that you had a blow out before you started.

Tully, wait until next week before officially starting and then ease your way in to it this week.

bobbybee, it is surprising how much you can eat isn't it? Sounds like you are doing well. I am on green, so your day sounds like a typical menu for me.

fatgirlthin, I found it very strange in the 1st few days, but quickly got in to it and don't really think about it now. I have been on SW for about 7/8 weeks I think.

mamaG how long did you do it for before?

I missed my weigh in due to the snow, so it will be 3 weeks since a weigh in next week. I was strangely relieved, yet disappointed at the same time. I think I was keen to know how I had done over Christmas and feel the need for some motivation to keep me going.

Ilovestripeysocks, where are you? I was wondering how you have done over Christmas. will go and have a look at your blog...

FatGirlThin · 07/01/2010 18:13

Hi

Can one of you experienced gals help me please? How can I find out if pancetta is a syn or not and if it is how many syns is it? Thanks.

QandA · 07/01/2010 18:45

I do all green days so don't know about pancetta, but I think on a red day it is free if you cut all the fat off. that is what someone said at my group about bacon so presume pancetta would be the same.

Sorry can't be more accurate, would check online for you but don't have an up to date password.

FatGirlThin · 07/01/2010 18:48

I have password (which know I'm not allowed to post) but I don't know where to look!

QandA · 07/01/2010 19:02

If you look at the slimming world 'lifeline online' and sign in with your email, personal password and group password there is an online syns calculator. I have just tried my password from the last class before Christmas and it is not working. I will have to wait until next week.

HTH.

FatGirlThin · 07/01/2010 21:00

THanks, found it!

FatGirlThin · 07/01/2010 21:08

Can't find jaffa bloody cake on it though. Ridiculous!

QandA · 08/01/2010 08:26

They will probably be in the handbook. The online Syns has a funny way of linking to items, have you tried the manufacturers name and put in biscuits/cakes?

I found some things were really hard to find.

Bobbybee · 08/01/2010 12:42

I thought this thread would be busier too.
Its my 5th day of doing sw and I don't feel like I'm losing any weight. I know I should give it a bit longer before weighing myself but I just wanted to see what the scales said as I feel no different.
I'm still the same weight as when I started. Its a bit disappointing but I'll carry on.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 08/01/2010 13:03

Hi just wanted to say that I've been 'unofficially' doing SW since about September, with DH.

My weight loss has been slow (1/2 stone) in that time, but that's fine for me as any quicker than that would have involved too much denial and put me back to square one.

DH has lost about 11/2 stones - he had lots more to lose, though.

Still another 1/2 stone to go for me, which again will probably be a slow process, but I really appreciate the knowledge that I need never be in this position again.

I've bought a couple of SW recipe books and mainly cook from those, or adapt my own (mainly by using spray-on oil rather than my former 2 tablespoonsful - amazing!)

I have to have a decent amount of protein in each meal, so porridge olis no good - feel faint an hour later.

I often have quorn sausages or eggs (fried without fat on the Aga), with bread and maybe beans and tomatoes fried the same way.

Keep faith, Bobby, it will work, and don't feel a failure if you have an indulgent day.

Bobbybee · 08/01/2010 13:46

Thanks Ourlady
I know its too early really to know if the diet is working (after all, as its day 5, I've only really completed 4 days!) so I'll keep faith.
I'll admit to being a bit cynical as well. I can't believe its such an easy diet and that I can eat as much as I do. We'll see....

porkycamper · 08/01/2010 19:17

Hi everyone, I wonder if I could join you.
Haven't been on here for ages mainly because of complete lack of willpower and it taking about a year to have a rare blood disorder, unfortunatley I comfort ate for that year. lol !
By luck I guessed the password and had a look at the new EE plan. I've been following it for couple of days now, I'm dreading stepping on the scales as for having followed Red of Green days for years it just seems to good to be true. Fingers crossed for Monday morning weigh in !

nappyaddict · 09/01/2010 01:12

I have just found out about this forum Hope it's of help to some of you

nappyaddict · 09/01/2010 01:28

BTW I know some people say the syn free crisps aren't syn free but even so they have to better than normal crisps! I've just enjoyed them with some syn free dip too. I used fromage frais with onion and garlic and fromage frais with chives. Yum.

nappyaddict · 09/01/2010 01:35

Oh and if anyone else loves pate I found this syn free recipe.

Smoked Salmon pate

Smoked salmon spices
Half tub quark
4-5 spring onions
Fresh chives
Squeeze half lemon
S&P

Whizz it all up, job done!

Chicken/pork pate

Tub chicken/pork livers
1 onion
1 clove garlic
Couple of tblsp quark
pepper
Mixed herbs & 1 bayleaf
(Add a shot of brandy if you want to syn it!)

Frylight onion, garlic with herbs and bayleaf.
Add livers til cooked - remove bayleaf!
Add S&P, Blitz in blender with quark to taste

These both improve if you can leave in the fridge overnight...

I was thinking you could add either apricot or duck and orange to the pork one as well.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 09/01/2010 09:45

They look worth trying - how much smoked salmon?

nappyaddict · 09/01/2010 09:53

Oops slices not spices. I just put in what looks right if you know what i mean.

StrawberriesandCherries · 09/01/2010 13:52

Thanks for posting that recipe NA, I was looking for something like that. Will have it tonight with a jacket potato!

Hope all are doing well and managing to get back into it. Slow process with me, but lost a half pound this week. Only 6 now to target.

How are others doing?

CJMommy · 09/01/2010 19:48

Went to join SW group last week but not running cos of the weather {sad}. However, have brought the magazine for inspiration and going to attempt to join again this week!
