Well done Boiledegg, I've never lost from eating curry! will give the Spanish fish one a try. The recipes in the magazine are good, I always thought they'd be a bit tasteless like some of the WW ready meals, but a lot of them are really good, especially the curries. Have you tried the squash and spinach curry, or the squash with sage and tagliatelle? (I like squash!)They are both really quick.

Welcome MountTheFairy, we have three husbands and wives at my group, one husband got to target before his wife, and one always gets dirty looks from his because he always loses more than she does. You can exercise with SW, more weight will come off if you do, but I am very lazy and still managed to lose nearly three stones. There's no special food needed which is the best thing about it, it's the only thing that has worked for me and I tried every diet going. Good luck and hope you join!

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 24/06/2010 19:04

Thanks Dazmum

Fairy, I think the good thing about SW is that there are no fads to follow, and no restrictions on the amount of hundreds of everyday foods. So no going hungry!

I go along to the meetings and sometimes stay and other times leave just after being weighed if I'm in a rush.

DH is also doing it with me, not going to the meetings, I weigh him at home. He is 6' 4" and fairly stockily built, and he is also finding the food filling , it's just about tweaking.

I think if you have a lot of prepared meals it may take a little longer to get into it, but if you cook from scratch, it should be fairly easy.

Good luck.

Hi Mtf, i have just started going to meetings and I am finding the eating side of things very easy. I cook all meals from scratch anyway so its just about being a bit savvy and saving a few syns here to spend there. For example tonight I am having chicken fajitas with home made spicy wedges, I am forgoing the wraps as they are very high in syns it doesn't seem worth it and having 2 glasses of wine instead

Hi Octopus.

I will try and answer your questions.

For breakfast I have either 2 Alpen light cereal bars, or 5 scan bran and a banana. That is more than enough for me in the morning, I tend to split it in 2, something at 8, and then 10.30. DH has a huge bowl of Greek fat free yog. and loads of fruit.

I have only been doing the Extra Easy plan and you can eat as much of the free food as you want, really! I didn't think it would work as I am now eating double the amount I used to and have so far lost 11lbs in 4 weeks and DH 10lbs in 3 weeks. I think the main difference to me is that I am eating so much more protein than I used to do, before it would be a cereal bar at breakfast, ryvita, yog. and fruit at lunch, and then dinner in the evening. I couldn't work out where I was going wrong before.

So my meals would be pretty carb rich and not much else, although I always had at least 5 fruit and veg a day so not all bad.

The thing I like best is never being hungry, there is always something you can eat!

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Dazmum · 25/06/2010 14:23

Hi Octopus, I have a 28g bowl of shreddies or other healthy extra allowed cereal with banana and blueberries, a banana bulks it out, or you could could have two or more, and or any other fruit, with a muller lite yoghurt or two.

It does sound mad, that you can eat all the free foods you want, that's the best thing about it, and it does work!

Sorry Octopus, I'm a thicky and haven't heard of a Roti, was trying to look up syn value for you on the website, but it can't find it. Is there a manufacturer? I did put it into the free foods search and it didn't come up, so not looking good!

Bread's my downfall too, but it really makes a difference if I don't eat it, you just have to find a substitute that you like. I was really stupid and bought a breadmaker just after I joined SW!

You can have nuts and seeds as a healthy B on Green, so you might still be able to eat your bread!Might not be able to put so many in, but they will still be there, 2 dsp pumpkin seeds, or sesame or sunflower seeds.

There are so many things that you actually can have in huge quantities on SW though, that hopefully it will outweigh the things you can't have all the time. The syns are there so you can treat yourself and not get into the 'I'm on a diet, so I can't have that, and I really want it' way of thinking that makes you fail. Look up the syns before you eat something first though, it does make you think twice about whether it's worth it. And the very small 11.5 syn cornetto that I ate the other day wasn't !
Good luck!

MountTheFairy · 25/06/2010 20:40

Thank you everyone! Now I just need to pursuade the hubby! Dazmum, how long did it take you to loose 3 stone?

roslily · 25/06/2010 22:07

I joined on Thurs. before pregnancy I lost 3 and half stone with it. But it has changed a lot- I used to be able to have 2 weetabix as a healthy extra, but I can't now. I am also finding breakfast challenging, as I always have cereal.

Dazmum · 26/06/2010 08:57

Much longer than it should have done, I was not as disciplined as I should be, as well as being lazy, so took me about 18 months, but others lose on average about 2 lbs every week. One lady in our group has lost 9 stones!

roslily, I thought you could still have two wetabix as a HE? worth checking on website, but I bet another MNetter will know for sure.

porridge? You can make with water in microwave and then add dash of cold milk. I'm sure oats are a healthy Extra.

I will check the website, thanks!

octopus i know you said not cooking but scrambling a couple of eggs only takes a few minutes, and throw beans or tomatoes in the microwave for a minute - i also leave very early of a morning and find this is a quick easy meal before i start. we don't have a microwave - i tip out the egg and put the beans in the already hot pan, back on the hob for 30 seconds and it's done
fruit and yoghurt is my other breakfast, sometimes with a cereal bar but that uses a healthy extra so i usually save that til later on in the day

roslily · 26/06/2010 19:42

ah see I do green days so I can have two healthy extras. No point me doing extra easy as I am veggie!

onadietcokebreak · 01/07/2010 08:34

Hi guys ...can I join you.

Am on my second week of SW and was a complete failure the first week. Lose 0.5lb

Meeting last night has left me humilated and fed up....if things dont improve next week Im not going to attend class for a "weekly shame"

onadietcokebreak · 01/07/2010 09:03

Thanks octopusinabox. I have been to her meetings before and basically dont like her manner. Its a very happy clappy group- dont know if all the groups are the same.

Weigh in happens and then she goes around the group and says "Well done x you have lost 2lbs this week- how did you keep your self on target, what do you want to lose this week"

Or "oh dear only half a lb this week x. you must be disappointed" cocked hear and looked all sad....

To which I replied "no not really Im surprised I lost anything at all with what I have eaten"

What what has stopped you...so I said about trying to use up food to get it out of house (Im not throwing good foodd away), had a wedding at weekend, trying to get head around diet and find ideas that would be suitable for my family and lifestyle.

She countered all these with an arguement which would have been helpful if I didnt have every fucker looking at me and it didnt go on so long. My friends werent impressed either.

I dont have time to make a omlette for breakfast or the desire to eat a breakfast quiche...Im lucky to get two minutes to eat breakfast!

When she rings Im going to tell her straight- I dont want to be focussed on in group- its not how I will be motivated- it will make me leave and I will follow the diet on my own in stead of spending money my family dont actually have to spare being humilated.

onadietcokebreak · 01/07/2010 09:04

oops meant cocked head

Dazmum · 01/07/2010 16:24

onadietcokebreak, don't despair, she was in the wrong, because they aren't supposed to foist their negative stuff on you: ie 'you must be disappointed', if you haven't had a good week and you know why, you aren't likely to be disappointed are you? They certainly aren't supposed to humiliate you. Our leader doesn't talk to us like that (although she can be a bit too happy clappy for me!)If you haven't been able to follow it, you did really well to lose at all, think what you'll do once you have got your head round it. Don't give up!

pipsy76 · 01/07/2010 17:56

Hi, can I enlist on this thread too please? I just joined SW today and as I suspected I am now obese! So I really need this to work, that said I have followed the plan and eaten loads today, no cheating necessary.

I was on a WW thread shortly after having DS2 but dropped out as was hungry and I don't think doing plans at home unsupported will work for me!
