OP posts:

Frittata is off the menu lol. DS wants pizza now and he is poorly so I said he could pick what we have. I am hoping he will be happy with wholemeal baguette pizza so I can use my HEB and make it syn free.

nappyaddict · 18/02/2010 17:47

Weird boy wants sausage, egg and beans on his pizza. Luckily I've got some Morrison's Eat Smart syn free sausages in. Or I might do a cheeseless vegetable one for me. Decisions, decisions!

BethAndHerBrood · 18/02/2010 18:42

Here I am again! The thread seemed to die a death, but it's livelier now.

I haven't been sticking to it, will be no different now to what I was at the beginning of january. I'm starting again tomorrow, forcing DH to do it too, and am going to start running. If I dare.

Have just read the recipe for the syn free mousse - buying quark tomorrow to make it.

nappyaddict · 18/02/2010 19:07

BTW only found out last week it's only the Eat Smart Diet plain pork sausages that are free. The Cumberland and Lincolnshire ones are 1/2 a syn.

Anyone tried the mushy pea curry?

The Onken fat free yogurts and 0.1% fat natural yogurts are also free and much creamier than the muller lights I think. The Longley Farm natural one is nice too.

Anyone know what magic porridge is?

nappyaddict · 18/02/2010 19:10

Found this lovely recipe for prawn, rice and mango salad on MSE which I think would be perfect for SW (only syns would be for the honey on EE if you use Oil as HEB ? if that?s allowed on EE? I?m sure someone could confirm that, if not, still not bad in the syns dept

175g cooked rice
1 mango - diced
375g cooked prawns
4 spring onions - chopped

Dressing (stir all ingredients together so nicely mixed):
1tbsp ex virgin o oil
1 garlic clove - crushed
1 tsp honey ? warm it in micro a bit so it stirs in well
2 tsp lime juice
Salt & pepper

  1. Cook rice & stir in prawns, leave to cool
  2. Stir in dressing
  3. When cool stir in spring onions and mango
  4. EAT!

Makes enough for 2-3 portions

whoops · 19/02/2010 11:57

Thanks for that about the sausages Nappy, I might have to go and get some of those!

I lost 4lb this weel So that's a total of 1 stone so far

Am going to see my grandmother later and she'll tell me if she notices a difference or not!!

nappyaddict · 19/02/2010 12:38

Does anyone know the syn value for vanilla bean paste?

nixpix · 19/02/2010 21:35

Am really needing to take the plunge in doing something about my flab before the summer gets here. I would struggle to get to a meeting as they start at 7 and that's when I'm still putting the kids to bed and DP not home. I have a SW book that a friend gave me 3 years ago. Is it still ok to follow this? The only thing that makes me hesitate with SW is that it seems so complicated. I just don't get the EE, HE A B red green, syns thing. I like the idea of eating lots though! Is there an idiot's guide on the internet somewhere to what it all means?
Oh, I'm 5'6'' and 11 stone 7. Would like to get down to 10st4, which I was pre babies 5 years ago.

Furball · 19/02/2010 21:57

I've tried Mushy Pea Curry!

Tis really scrummy - highly recommended and only a point or two!

I throw in some sweet potato and cauliflower too.

Sparkler · 19/02/2010 23:15

Haven't tried the mushy pea curry and have to say the thought of it isn't making me feel good! Bleeurgh. Willing to give anything a try though. Could you give me the recipe please?
Having a very bad evening tonight - wine going down far too well and lots of nortys sneaking in with it.

Furball · 20/02/2010 07:26

actually it's syn free! - how fab is that? I have mine with a poppadom so maybe thats where I get the syns from

I've just copied and pasted my post from another thread....

Just made a devine curry - sounds rank, but try it. It only takes 20-30 mins in a pan

1 onion (microwaved first for a few mins to soften)
1 tin of mushy peas (I know!)
1 tin of tomatoes
1 curry powder (I used 1 TBSPN)
dollop of fat free greek yoghurt

I also added a few chunks of sweet potato and cauliflower.

Sparkler · 20/02/2010 11:58

Thanks, will give it a go!

BethAndHerBrood · 21/02/2010 18:25

I like the sound of the mushy pea curry! Sounds as if it would be nice and filling, which is what I need. I need to be absolutely stuffed when I've finished a meal, then I don't snack before the next one.

littleyawner · 24/02/2010 12:22

Hi !

I have frog marched myself right on to this thread to boost my motivation !!!!

I have ds1 2 1/2 and ds2 4 weeks. I got wieghed for the first time since giving birth last week and weighed 12st 9lb which is about a stone over pre-pregnancy weight. Most of my pre-preggers jeans still fit (snugly) but I think my first few months of expanding stretched them !!!

Started to do sw ee seriously yesterday.

Wish me luck !

Sparkler · 24/02/2010 17:16

Good luck and welcome to thread
I gained half a pound on Monday night, it was expected (in fact I thought it would have been more, phew!). Trying really hard this week. Took two new friends with me as it was take a friend and get a week free and now have two free weeks to look forward to. Nice saving! We can also encourage each other which is really good.
Must go and get the dinner on as I'm feeling really hungry and the urge to reach for the biscuit jar is strong.

whoops · 25/02/2010 09:39

That's good about taking friends Sparkler, I took my friend with me on my first week and don't know anyone else that is bothered about losing weight at the moment!

I'm hoping that I may have lost something this week, well I flippin well should do after my dodgy tum!!

I made a chicken curry last night dh told me it was the best one he had had in ages and it was syn free!! (on extra easy!)

Sparkler don't go for the biscuit jar! or if you have to limit yourslf to a couple as a treat!

BethAndHerBrood · 26/02/2010 12:03

I got weighed this morning for the first time since the 1st feb, I've lost 6lbs!!! I couldn't believe it, I was all ready to be "starting again", but now I can just keep going!

nappyaddict · 26/02/2010 12:17

We are having pitta bread pizzas for lunch but need inspiration for toppings. Got some Lidl Linessa half fat cheese which is 3.5 syns for 28g. Usually get the Cricketer Farm 2% fat one cos that's only 2.5 syns but they had sold out.

BethAndHerBrood · 26/02/2010 13:10

Does anyone know how I would go about making a low syn onion soup? I have an onion mountain, and I don't want to waste them.

nappyaddict · 26/02/2010 14:13

I used this one

Anyone know how I can make a low syn or syn free chicken tikka pasta salad type thing?

BethAndHerBrood · 26/02/2010 14:27

That's great nappyaddict, just the job! Thanks.

Can't help you with yours though, sorry.

littleyawner · 26/02/2010 20:43

Hi Nappyaddict,

There is a recipe for Chicken Tikka Masalla in the jan/feb sw mag , only 1 syn on EE. I think thats what I am making tomorrow.

I can't believe how easy the ee plan is it doesn't feel right to be able to eat red and green together !

Had my old ante-natal girls and the little ones over this afternoon and I only had 2 mini jaffa cakes and have saved my syns for a large glass of red this evening. Planned to settle down and watch QI and Enders but the bloody rugger is on !!

I suppose thats motivation enough to do some uni work !

Good to see how many of us are still cracking away at the lard and hi to the new ones!

Made it to target a couple of weeks ago - woohoo!!- am still one stone away from a good BMI but can happily get into some size 12 clothes and am thrilled with that at the moment. So happy i spent the week after target letting go and ploughing into the chocolate a little and put on half a stone, what an idiot! have lost 5 lbs of it again so will be ok for weigh on wednesday i think. So good knowing i wont have to pay if i stop messing around and stay in target.

I have lost the blog that someone did with their SW food day to day, does anyone have a link to it please? Thanks

BethAndHerBrood · 28/02/2010 14:05

The onion soup was delish! Shall definately be making it again. I have saved the link to the recipes so I can dip in and out for inspiration, it seemed quite a good site, so thanks for that.
