I’m going on a silly crash diet

For two weeks. I’m only going to eat soup, yoghurt, vegetables and fruit. I normally eat a good diet but too much wine and relaxing has meant I need to seriously shed a stone at least before I go on holiday in November. I did this diet about 16 years ago with excellent results, but I remember it being extremely challenging.

So I’m going to post here every day for a bit of accountability. Just two weeks - hope it flies by!

Not sure Mumsnet needs any more threads promoting disordered eating really.

Indeed. Can you at least put it in the weight loss boards so people can avoid it more easily?

Iheartmysmart · 24/08/2026 12:44

Well I guess it sounds healthier than the crash diet a previous colleague used to do before her holiday each year which consisted of Carling Black Label and Cup-A-Soup for a month.

LifeBeginsToday · 24/08/2026 12:46

You are overestimating how much people care about one person's diet.

socks1107 · 24/08/2026 12:48

My colleague goes on a water fast very regularly. Not healthy nor sustainable hence having to keep repeating it.
it’s disordered and not good for you: hope you don’t have children watching you eat in this way

aliasfrog · 24/08/2026 12:48

You know it's a silly idea. You'll starve yourself for a week then be so hungry and overeat and may end up gaining.
You're better off making slow lifestyle changes that you can stick to in the long term.
Yoyo dieting is terrible for you.

Of course it’s not sustainable. It’s an extreme for a couple of weeks.

And you can't just get on with it without promoting it?

jollygreenpea · 24/08/2026 12:51

As far as crash diets go soup, yoghurt, vegetables and fruit is far from the worst I've heard off.

Long term I do try and avoid UPFs, avoid red meat, avoid sugar etc but the lovely summer has led to an overindulgence in wine and barbecue food. I want a two week jump start before going back to the healthy day to day diet.

No, I want to come on to this thread every day for accountability. I explained this in my OP.

Make sure you have lots of protein in the soup, as insufficient protein consumption causes loss of muscle instead of fat.

aliasfrog · 24/08/2026 12:52

It's not a jump start though. That's not how it works. The human body is designed to weather famine so you'll naturally (without thinking about it) overeat after a period of starvation.
But if you really want to do it, go ahead.

Littlegreywolfcub · 24/08/2026 12:52

Crikey OP - ask for this to be moved to Weight Loss chat - they are a much more friendly and supportive bunch over there.

@PennySweeet the OP is looking to be accountable on a thread so that she sticks with it.

StrugglingAlong75 · 24/08/2026 12:53

The more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns.

Did they actually stick to this for a month?

I bet they felt like shit, but thought it was worth it sadly.

Yeah, I’ll only have natural, Greek or Skyr yoghurt too for protein.

Once I finish I’m going to calorie count until November.

I was going to post on there but then didn’t want to look like I was being flippant when people there are having long term struggles with their weight.

Sounds like a plan. Hope you lose the lard.

ElsiePiddockSkipsinherSleep · 24/08/2026 13:49

November is a long time away. Why do a two week crash diet now? Why not do something easier and less drastic as you have the time? Or failing that, crash diet closer to your holiday? I don’t need to lose weight, but I always do a ‘800 keto’ for 2 weeks before I go away - purely so I can lose 7lbs as that’s what I gain on holiday.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/08/2026 13:53

I lived on hard boiled egg, cottage cheese and prawn salads plus Greek yoghurt and berries and a few bananas for 14 days once - looked remarkably well and lost just over half a stone and no I didn’t binge eat afterwards as was actually eating a fair bit - yet was only eating around 1000 a day

It’s only 10 weeks away now. Two weeks of a drastic diet then eight weeks of calorie counting. I’m away for a few days in September too so will allow myself those few days off calorie counting, as well as Halloween.
