I’m going on a silly crash diet

For two weeks. I’m only going to eat soup, yoghurt, vegetables and fruit. I normally eat a good diet but too much wine and relaxing has meant I need to seriously shed a stone at least before I go on holiday in November. I did this diet about 16 years ago with excellent results, but I remember it being extremely challenging.

So I’m going to post here every day for a bit of accountability. Just two weeks - hope it flies by!

Your weight loss won't be fst its be fat, water and muscle because if you arent eating enough protein to prevent it then it will go. Nor are you lifting weights.

Its all well and good doing a calories deficit but what macros make up what calories do you eat is important.

Your body will think its starving and your metabolism will crashing those two weeks and alow down considerably. It might be a temporary fast fix but long term you will see the weight go bsck on quickly and a slower metabolism.

You can still keep to your calories and eat protein.

Good luck to you though.

Well I don’t feel starving at all, and it won’t all go back on because I’m going to be calorie counting afterwards. I also don’t think my muscle will waste away in two weeks regardless of what I eat, but there is more than enough protein in yoghurt and a couple of eggs. I don’t know why everyone is so fussed about protein all of a sudden, it isn’t something of which something people in the UK usually have deficiencies.

Thank you for wishing me luck though.

Are you making the soups?
If so, I don't think that sounds bad at all. Not sure why you are getting so much grief 😅

LipglossAndLies · 26/08/2026 17:56

💁‍♀️ you said yourself it's a silly crash diet

It’s not about becoming protein deficient. Muscle preservation is important, and a ultra low calorie diet like yours can cause loss of lean mass as well as fat. You won’t lose all your muscle in two weeks, obviously, but that doesn’t mean severe calorie restriction has no effect on muscle or metabolism. Especially if you are 40+.

If you read up on how much protein you need you will see you aren't having enough.

Yep. Made tomato last night with different tomatoes from the garden centre roasted in avocado oil, added sun dried tomatoes, onion, coriander and garlic and let it all cool down. Going to blend it and reheat it later and I can’t wait to taste it .

Sounds lovely! Hope it goes well.
Appreciate it's low calorie and not sustainable long term but it sounds pretty healthy. People have no issues with others injecting chemicals into them to lose weight but lose their mind with someone eating healthy but less than normal for a couple of weeks. Makes no sense to me 🤷🏻

I’m not 40+, and it won’t have any negative affects long term. It’s just two weeks. I have a worse diet for two weeks when I go on holiday, although obviously a lot more calories.

Thank you! I didn’t follow a recipe so I’m not sure if it’ll taste as nice as hoped. I added oregano and basil too. I will report back later.

I think it’s great that people have got weight loss injection as an option. You are right though, my friends who are on weight loss injections hardly eat anything and there doesn’t seem concern over that.

Because I won’t lose as much if I have meat, cheese, butter etc.

Okay, day three of 14.

A fruit smoothie, pickled onions, cherry tomatoes, two boiled eggs, a banana, a mango, and a big thick bowl of tomato soup (delicious, if I may say so myself).

Willpower remains in tact but I’d love a sandwich, cheese and a steak.

I'm following with interest and will begin mine next week! My problem with Greek yogurt is it's so sour and I need to sweeten it with a jug of honey ...should I just avoid it altogether? What do you eat it with OP? I'm gonna do fruit/greek yog smoothies and deffo jumping on the boiled egg bandwagon! Would love to do a week but just don't know if I'll make it...would actually love to do 4 weeks and feel amazing but who knows!

I lucky because I love Greek, natural and kefir yoghurt on their own but sometimes I add in frozen fruit or berries straight out of the freezer and mix it a bit and it becomes like an ‘ice cream’. You could add in blitzed raspberry/strawberry/mango/apricot to make it a flavoured yoghurt?

For four weeks I think you’d need willpower of steal. I am hoping after these two weeks that skinless chicken, an omelette or fish feels like a novel treat.

Are you feeling less bloated Op?

If I overindulge on holiday or whatever, I always feel so puffed-up, and when I revert to “normal”, I.e. less food and very little alcohol, I seem to deflate (for want of a better word) quite quickly.

Was wondering if this crash diet had a similar effect?

Not really, no. I don’t feel any difference at all.

I tried on a pair of shorts that were definitely too tight and a struggle to fasten on Sunday, and was going to see if they’re looser after 14 days. I might chest and try them on after seven but don’t want to get downhearted if there’s no change.

I actually think how clothes fit is often a better indicator than the scales.

I put on muscle at the gym and got a much flatter stomach, but my weight didn’t really change; clothes fit better though.

There’s a fancy scale at the gym which tells you how much fat and muscle etc your body has, and basically I’d lost fat, but gained muscle, so stayed the same weight.

I know in this instance OP you’re not putting too much emphasis on exercise, but I do think sometimes people worry too much about the number on the scale instead of what’s actually going on inside their body.

Directly171717171717 · 27/08/2026 12:07

Day four of 14.

I’m not particularly starving, but I am bored. I’ve had a coffee and banana and planning tomato soup for lunch and a salad for dinner.

Will join you (though not a crash diet, just a healthier one).

Have eaten -

sprig of grapes
a sliced apple dipped in a teaspoon of peanut butter
two carrots
130g Quark with frozen blueberries, lemon juice, and 2 teaspoons of sugar (oops) stirred in
7 chocolate-coated cubes of crystalised ginger (cravings)

Have drunk -
glass of coconut water
glass of water

619 calories by not-even-lunch-time BUT all my 5 fruit&veg mostly fruit achieved. And have done a big wardrobe/drawers sort out and will lug 4 carrier bags to charity shops, which will tone my arms no end.

I am impressed by your protein intake @Directly171717171717

Chocolate and peanut butter sound amazing right now!

I’ve had a light macchiato and am about to have a kefir yoghurt.

Tonight I’m making a bean and mushroom chilli and having it with broccoli and cauliflower rice.

Directly171717171717 · 28/08/2026 19:08

BIG UPDATE! The pair of shorts which were far too tight last week and my stomach spilling over now fit nicely.

I haven’t had a single alcoholic drink this week which is unusual, and am going to try and resist temptation to go out tonight or tomorrow, but I think I will be out on Sunday. That will be a week of major restriction though so I can make my peace with wine on Sunday.

Okay, Day 5 of 14 10

Today I’ve had a coffee, a bowl of mushroom soup, a M&S king prawn dipper, and I’ve got vegetarian chilli cooking which I’ll have with cauliflower and broccoli rice.

My friend has reminded me that we’re booked in to an eight course taster menu at a restaurant on Thursday, so that is my new goal. I’m so happy my shorts felt looser today. Yesterday I felt like it was all for nothing. Much more positive today.
