I’m going on a silly crash diet

For two weeks. I’m only going to eat soup, yoghurt, vegetables and fruit. I normally eat a good diet but too much wine and relaxing has meant I need to seriously shed a stone at least before I go on holiday in November. I did this diet about 16 years ago with excellent results, but I remember it being extremely challenging.

So I’m going to post here every day for a bit of accountability. Just two weeks - hope it flies by!

I lived on hard boiled egg, cottage cheese and prawn salads plus Greek yoghurt and berries and a few bananas for 14 days once - looked remarkably well and lost just over half a stone and no I didn’t binge eat afterwards as was actually eating a fair bit - yet was only eating around 1000 a day

That sounds amazing actually - I love boiled eggs and prawns. Maybe I’ll also permit them.

That's a really bad idea, very unhealthy and won't help you. You will put all the weight lost back on very quickly with that kind of plan, and it will be even harder to lose weight next time you try.

A healthier plan would be to just cut out sugar, except for small amounts in fruit, cut out refined and processed foods, and prioritise protien in all your meals. If you eat enough protien you stay fuller for longer and end up eating less without actually needing to count calories. You can eat a mountain of vegetables and still feel unsatisfied if you haven't had enough protien. So yes to boiled eggs and prawns, also lean chicken breast, try to include at least 20g protien (= about 100g meat depending on what meat it is) each meal. Plenty of non-starchy veg and at least a pint of water each meal

If I add in chicken too then I’m eating what is just a normal diet for me. I don’t a have much of a sweet tooth and my meals tend to be an avocado and boiled egg for lunch and then dinner is usually chicken or fish with vegetables and a form of potato. It does keep my weight steady but summer overindulgence means I need some drastic action.

Once these two weeks are done I’ll still keep the potatoes off the menu and try and have dinners or chicken Caesar salad, baked fish etc again. I just need a quick jump start.

It wasn’t the most interesting diet but it did work

Iheartmysmart · 24/08/2026 16:34

As far as I know @jollygreenpea She’d have two Cup-A-Soups for breakfast, lunch and dinner then a couple of cans of Carling in the evening. We used to dread it because she was absolutely foul for the whole month. Of course all the weight and more would go on during her holiday and she’d be worse off than she started.

A month! Two weeks seems like a long time, I don’t know how anyone has the willpower for that for a month.

Okay well Day 1 of 14

Two boiled eggs (had them in the fridge and a shame to waste them)

A fruit smoothie with natural yoghurt, mango, pineapple, apricots and water

Chicken soup

Several cherry tomatoes straight from my tomato plant

Feel a bit hungry but fine.

Some years ago there was the cabbage soup diet. I did quite well on it didn’t follow it completely but was sick of cabbage soup!

Yes, I don’t think I could quite manage just cabbage soup. People raved about it though so it must’ve got good results.

I suspect in two weeks’ time I’ll be looking forward to chicken and fish the way I normally do pizza or cheese.

Why don't you try Cambridge or New You or similar? Then you get all your nutrients, they say, but I guess it's expensive?

Thank you! I’ve just had a look at them. It does seem expensive and also a lot of their products look full of UPFs. I’d rather avoid them if possible (although I haven’t been doing so of late, hence needing a diet!)

I'm the same as you, atm. Going on holiday tomorrow for a week and then pedal to the metal!

Directly171717171717 · 25/08/2026 11:25

Well Day Two and I’m planning salad for lunch and tomato soup for dinner.

Also planning a fruit smoothie, coffee and yoghurt as snacks. I’m pleased I started this thread because even if I end up talking to myself, it gives me a reason to stay accountable and come back in the evenings.

Well I guess it sounds healthier than the crash diet a previous colleague used to do before her holiday each year which consisted of Carling Black Label and Cup-A-Soup for a month.

See, I’d swap out the Carling for Carlsberg

BillieWiper · 25/08/2026 11:40

I don't know why though? Can't you just eat a very low calorie diet and let those calories comprise of anything you fancy? You'd get the same results but you don't need to actually cut out vast nutritional groups.

500 calories of fruit is the same as 500 calories of cake. Obviously the cake might give you a sugar crash but fruit is also high in sugar.

Denying entire food groups will lead to bingeing and potential selective eating or orthorexia.

It is a lot easier to eat 500 calories of cake than 500 calories of salad, and I’m not sure cake is necessary in anyone’s diet over a two week period.

I don’t want to calorie count for these two weeks. I want to be able to eat as much fruit, veg, yoghurt and soup as I like. It will still come in very low calorie and I know it works.

I think it’s ridiculous to compare a two week crash diet to serious eating disorders.

I’d go wine, but the wine would make me too hungry the next day to be able to stick with the cuppa soup.

It’s the online equivalent of slimming world and the weigh in !! Don’t forget my hard boiled eggs and prawns tip - good protein, low calories !!

I once went on one of those meal replacement diets. The meal choice was a nasty drink or a weird sort of chocolate bar thing.
Anyway, after two days I was so hungry I woke up crying in my sleep.

I haven’t forgotten. I’m just away to the shops now to buy tomatoes for roasting for tonight’s tomato soup, and I’m going to buy and boil a load of eggs for snacks too.

😂 Not ideal. I’m hungry now but have had a salad and smoothie earlier today and still to have tea. I don’t think it’s too bad when you can still eat stuff you like.

Ha - another good one is Ocado and Iceland and M&S do a fantastic high protein chocolate milkshake - 205 cals a good glass size - feels a great treat if being very tight on what you are having as a meal substitute and makrs a change from soup

Ooo thank you! I got a Nutribullet for my birthday last month so might look into some nice milkshakes to make with it too.
