⭐️OPEN TO ALL⭐️ Weight Loss, Wellbeing & Motivation Thread To Support Healthy Habits.

Following on from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/5523585-lose-it-motivational-may-2026?reply=152568153

Here we are with our June LOSE IT! Thread. To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a trim body) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.

These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable) that’s based on several sensible principles including:-

  1. Eat a variety of real whole foods such as fresh vegetables, salad, berries, beans, nuts, eggs, lean meat, good fats etc.

  2. Reduce sugars, simple carbs, alcohol and UPFs.

  3. Plan your meals & log your intake. Also be mindful of portion control.

  4. Intermittent fasting - research suggests (Zoe study) that adhering to an eating window of 10 hours can have a positive effect on health, wellbeing and weight loss. I personally have a eating window of approximately 7hrs - 12:00 - 19:00.

  5. Stay hydrated! 💧

  6. Move as much as able. Particularly strength based exercise. Muscle keeps you strong as well as revs up your metabolism.

  7. Get the fibre in! Great for your gut biome as well as 💩

  8. SLEEP! Good sleep hygiene and a regularly sleep routine can be beneficial to weight loss. I’m always more hungry following poor sleep.

  9. Be mindful about your own mental wellbeing and try not to eat your feelings. We’ve all been there!

  10. Be kind to yourself! ❤️ One or two slip ups won’t undo all your previous efforts. Just check-in with yourself, reinforce your good intentions and carry on.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone.
After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 3lbs.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Any recipes/workouts that have worked for you, you’d like to share?

Morning! Going to get into the allotment today, now it's finally stopped raining.
Today's food-
Granary toast and rhubarb/lemon marmalade for breakfast
Lunch is going to be some kind of soup and bread and an apple
Dinner- chilli, brown rice, veg. Probably some melon too.

10kstepsaday · 13/06/2026 20:00

@Rosetime haha! Let's see tomorrow if the 'Hard Stare' helps at all.

Todays Update:
Daily Weigh-In: 10 st 6.6.

Breakfast: Oats, Fruit, Almond Milk, Flaxseed
Lunch: Cheese Sandwich
Dinner: Meatballs & Pasta - I think I am going to be up again tomorrow now but I was so hungry today after 1 hr yoga.
Snack: Apple, Carrots & Hummus, 1 small but delicious cookie

1 hour of hot yoga, and was a really hard instructor. Felt like we did every yoga pose in the book!

FridayNighFeeling · 13/06/2026 21:37

Busy day out in the big smoke, but stuck to maintenance cals so not too bad - but know the food will spike my weight, so back to normal tomorrow and back on scales Monday.

LemonDrizzle23 · 13/06/2026 22:13

I love the idea of giving the scales a “hard stare” 😂
I will also avoid the scales til Monday as we went out for Vietnamese food last night, which was glorious and healthy, but also included about a pint of salty broth with the noodles!

BreakingBroken · 13/06/2026 22:52

since wow's post i've upped the intensity of my workouts. equally increased my intake in some key area's, i'm feeling pretty certain it will all be helpful at reducing the waistline if not the actual weight.

biscuitcat · 14/06/2026 07:48

Good morning all - I’m doing so badly at checking in with you, life just getting in the way and I’m exhausted! Weight loss still exceptionally slow going but actually I measured the other day for the first time in ages and I’ve dropped a little more round waist, hips and chest which is reassuring.

I've decided to have a while of eating more intuitively, rather than being super strict, and accepting that it’s likely to lead to minimal weight loss. I’d like to see if I can maintain my weight that way, rather than gaining, and am so snowed under with kids and work that taking something off my plate (as it were!) feels like the right thing. I’d also like to introduce some strength training. I’ve just referred myself for physio as three pregnancies in quick succession plus hefting kids around and breastfeeding has done a number on my joints and muscles, and hope that will help too.

Hope everyone is enjoying the respite from the rain! We’re off up to see friends today and looking forward to a nice chilled day - or as chilled as it can be with kids and dog causing chaos!

Fellsbells · 14/06/2026 13:12

Checking in for the end of the week. The scales say I’m the same weight as last Sunday, but I’m expecting a bit of a whoosh at some point because I have stuck to calories and it’s probably just some food/water weight hanging about.

Hope everyone has a nice Sunday.

moondip · 14/06/2026 15:49

@biscuitcat I’m with you on wanting to try intuitive eating at some point. I feel like I know what I “should” be doing now in order to try to lose more vs. maintain vs. what’ll throw me off entirely. Not quite ready to part ways with NutraCheck just yet but really want to just be able to eat sensibly and stay fit in the future 🙏 It sounds like you’ve been busy! I hope your physio is helpful x

Pasta4Dinner · 14/06/2026 16:47

Been out shopping and for lunch with DD and I am so full.

i am aware I am going to have to start trying harder. I’ve lost 10kg but I am still obese, although only a few kilos off overweight. I know I need to lose another 5/10kg to look better.

Angry How Dare You GIF by Paddington Bear

Todays Update:
Daily Weigh-In: 10 st 6.2 - still teetering, but moving in the right direction at least.

Breakfast: Scrambled Egg on 1 Wholegrain Toast
Lunch: Salmon, Broccoli, Sweet Potato
Dinner: Chicken Fajitas
Snack: Banana and 4 sweets from my DC Pick'n'mix 😝

I did 20 minutes strength (legs) this morning and 1 hour yoga this afternoon (but the very slow, stretchy kind - not the workout sweaty kind).

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 14/06/2026 20:08

I've done less than 10000 steps all bloody weekend, because the child was sick all day yesterday and last night she was up coughing and I honestly couldn't face doing any exercise. Plus she wasn't up for her usual walks.

Stuck to my calories despite wanting to bathe in a Chinese takeaway the size of Yorkshire.

Rosetime · 14/06/2026 21:58

@DreamingOfGeneHunt , Hope DC is feeling better now. I understand your frustration but you managed not to 'bathe in a chinese takeaway the size of yorkshire'!😁 i love that. I am stealing that, can't wait to use it one day.
You did good. Hopefully you get a good night's sleep.

Today, was a day of keeping to my calories, drinking almost 2 Litres of water, getting some calisthenics in and then my craving had me spending hours.. HOURS walking up and down the dessert aisle in Marks and Spencers, putting some in my basket and when the basket gets half full, walking back down again putting some back and then changing my mind again!!

I bought nothing else. Just dessert. I really wanted to bathe in them.😁

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 14/06/2026 22:01

@Rosetime thank you! And I do the picking things up, walking them round the shop and putting them back, too.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 15/06/2026 06:20

Morning! Signing in for OMAD.

socks1107 · 15/06/2026 07:45

I saw a healthy BMI on the scales yesterday! That won’t stay it’ll bounce around for a few weeks but it’s a new low and with 4 weeks to my holiday I am thrilled to see it.

I will post my weights today as I don’t WOW as I’m up so early for my commute.

SW 13.13
CW 10.8
GW 10.5

swimming today and wfh so will try and squeeze a weights session in too

FridayNighFeeling · 15/06/2026 08:30

Morning, predictably my weight is up 1 1/2lbs from Friday, hopefully it's on the way back down after being very hot, junk food etc but I did have a snackcident last night - crackers and cheese... but being kind to myself and just starting afresh.

Creatine definitely not helping in terms of memory yet but despite sleeping badly, I don't feel like too much of a zombie @moondip so maybe it does help with energy. Though if you're low on energy, can you request bloods from GP to check iron, b12, folate and Vit d because all of those alongside thyroid cause exhaustion and common in women!

CinnamonSweet73 · 15/06/2026 08:56

Good morning all and well done everyone, just catching up on posts and you're all doing great!

I was away on holidays for a few days and then out socialising in the sunshine at the weekend, but back on the healthy routine today and feeling motivated amd energised!

Trip to the gym done, porridge eaten, wfh today and must plan meals and do a shop this evening.

Wishing you all a great week!

GetFit2026 · 15/06/2026 12:56

Hi - can I join?

I am 42 - I have been eating better since February this year, and exercising meaningfully since April. I have lost 20lbs so far.

This is the first time I have lost weight in what feels like a sustainable way - rather than a diet that stops and then you put all the weight back on.

I am feeling pretty great at the moment. All of my clothes are too big. Grin

Fellsbells · 15/06/2026 18:34

Welcome @GetFit2026

I’ve eaten far too much today. First time in a month, but it had to happen at some point. Maybe triggered by a long walk yesterday and high emotions today and my body needed some extra calories to cope.

Anyway, onwards and downwards. One day doesn’t matter.

FridayNighFeeling · 15/06/2026 20:40

Sending (((hugs))) @Fellsbells - tomorrow is a new day.

Sounds like you're doing very well @GetFit2026, welcome!

10kstepsaday · 15/06/2026 21:34

Todays Update:
Daily Weigh-In: 10 st 5.8 - Yay to seeing a different lb on the scales today.
Hopefully continues down.

Breakfast: Scrambled Eggs on 1 Wholegrain Toast
Lunch: Salmon, Broccoli, Sweet Potatoes
Dinner: Chicken and Salad
Snack: Graze Banana Bread Bite, Watermelon, Pineapple

1 hour Yoga Class done this morning.

Rosetime · 15/06/2026 22:53

Welcome @GetFit2026 . This is a lovely group, I trust you will like it here. Congratulations!! on your weight loss journey so far. Great work. Quite surreal when your clothes are too big, isn't it? A great feeling.

@Fellsbells , it's just one day. It would not affect your hardwork at all. Actually, quite good for your weight loss journey. It makes the body believe there is abundance and moves it away from conserving energy (fat) as if it were in starvation mode. That's why the eat-little-for-5-days-and-then-plenty-for-2-days kind of diet programs work.

@10kstepsaday , how did you get that an extra hour in the morning?😁 I am in awe and so jealous. Hope you had a lovely day.

Today, was a good day - eating and burning calories- wise.
Did about 12k steps and a 30 minute Madfit workout.
My calories have come in at 1001. I need to bump it up a little bit more. Let me go and have some greek yoghurt (M&S Authentic Greek - cherry, honey or peach flavours).

BreakingBroken · 16/06/2026 00:08

just checking in and enjoying all the posts, it certainly helps me stay focused on the end goal knowing others are also focused and working through their challenges.
yesterday's hike landed me a heel blister :( (and it's a deep one), so i've needed to modify my work out plans. slow walking and my first 30 minute Walk at Home video in a long long time.
food choices are good.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 16/06/2026 07:50

Back up to 15 stone 2 this morning!!!

I've been under my calories every day and walking 15000/16000 steps. I can't go to the gym or anything because I have zero childcare and work school hours.
I'm despondent Sad I've been hungry most of the day all week.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 16/06/2026 08:28

Morning! Weighed today and broadly maintaining at around goal. Let's see how today goes.

@DreamingOfGeneHunt - up your water intake and if you're hungry eat more low-calorie foods like apples, carrot sticks etc. It sucks, been there. Keep going.
