January 2026! Following on from LOSE IT! 8 Week Christmas Countdown

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a trim body) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.
These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.
As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable) that’s based on several sensible principles including:-

  1. Eat a variety of real whole foods such as fresh vegetables, salad, berries, beans, nuts, eggs, lean meat, good fats etc.

  2. Reduce sugars, simple carbs, alcohol and UPFs.

  3. Plan your meals & log your intake. Also be mindful of portion control.

  4. Intermittent fasting - research suggests (Zoe study) that adhering to an eating window of 10 hours can have a positive effect on health, wellbeing and weight loss. I personally have a eating window of approximately 7hrs - 12:00 - 19:00.

  5. Stay hydrated! 💧

  6. Move as much as able. Particularly strength based exercise. Muscle keeps you strong as well as revs up your metabolism.

  7. Get the fibre in! Great for your gut biome as well as 💩

  8. SLEEP! Good sleep hygiene and a regularly sleep routine can be beneficial to weight loss. I’m always more hungry following poor sleep.

  9. Be mindful about your own mental wellbeing and try not to eat your feelings. We’ve all been there!

  10. Be kind to yourself. One or two slip ups won’t undo all your previous efforts. Just check-in with yourself, reinforce your good intentions and carry on.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 2lbs.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? Any recipes/workouts that have worked for you, you’d like to share?

Good evening everyone 🙂
Been catching up again on the thread and there is some really good updates

Well done everyone 👏
I went my weekly slimming world meeting this morning I have lost another 2 pounds and I'm surprised in a way as I am now under my target allowance by half a pound.
So this week I'm going to introduce into my diet some extra calories.
I am not sure as yet what these extra calories will be but I will work something out as I really don't want to lose anymore weight but at the same time don't want to gain weight .
I have however had a few treats this afternoon/ tonight which I have enjoyed though couldn't do this every night .
I might give my consultant a text in the week for some advice so will see how I feel.
The maintenance is proving a little harder for me though I'm sure it happens to a lot of us
Will feel happier when things hsve evened out so to speak
Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone ♥ xx

socks1107 · 25/01/2026 11:14

Good morning everyone, I’ve seen a new low the last few days which is lovely, im almost into the 10s! Adding in some fasting has been the change I needed to get the scales moving and I'm happy it is working

Fellsbells · 25/01/2026 17:47

Well done everyone still checking in and keeping mindful even in the depths of January.

I have a nice surprise this morning. Sunday weigh in (post carby takeaway) was lower than usual. Plus a 7km run today and I’m hoping I start the week in a good place instead of having to lose water weight until Wednesday like usual.

biscuitcat · 25/01/2026 18:32

Well done everyone, some fab progress. @socks1107 I’m so pleased for you, amazing work powering through your plateau and not giving up, you’ve earned that progress 💜

I was thrilled this morning to finally be into the 70s! (79.9, so only just, but the first number on the scale being a 7 feels like a big milestone). I was also rooting through old clothing and found one of my very favourite dresses from years ago - last time I dug it out it hardly went on, let alone zipping, and it now does up! It’ll look better with another half a stone off, not least as my boobs are bigger since having kids, but that was a real treat.

FridayNighFeeling · 25/01/2026 20:26

Really still struggling to get back into the swing of things. Have wasted all of January which is irritating but hey ho, I'm where I'm at. Will peak at the scales tomorrow to see what the scales are up to.

Good luck all!

PatienceOfEngels · 26/01/2026 05:47

Checking back in.

I put on almost 2kg over the 2 week Christmas holiday plus first week back.
Have managed to claw back 1.5kg of that in the last 2 weeks so now only 0.4kg+ on my pre-Christas weight. January is almost over so ready to begin!

Just recovering from a rotten cold so have had lots of lemon, ginger and honey this weekend. Made batch of spicy pumpkin soup to stock the freezer for lunches, and we're making good use of batch cooked goodies for dinner this week (bolognese, beef stew, chicken bhuna, sausage casserole). Hoping to get out a bit more walking and maybe even kick start running again.

Don't think I've posted for 2 weeks but my goals are the same:
-quit evening eating
-get outside and move
-get off my phone
-stop snacking on junk

Let's see if I can make a difference in the last week of January!

TheWayTheLightFalls · 26/01/2026 07:04

Wow @biscuitcat that’s quite something! Well done.

@PatienceOfEngels it sounds like this cold has knocked you sideways, be gentle with yourself x

I’m signing in for OMAD here. First time since my surgery! Weight will be anyone’s guess this week - two weeks off, minus the weight of boobs, dealing with both my period and the tailend of a sluggish bout of digestion , doing tonnes of walking… could be anything! No food plans for today but I’m still off work so may walk a few miles to an interesting cafe or something for my meal.

WoodlandDragon · 26/01/2026 09:22

Weight still stubbornly staying the same but at least it's not going up! And had salty food over the weekend so hoping it's just water weight and will woosh off for Wednesday.

Non scale victory though - I'm onto the smallest hole in my belt! Unexpected surprise. Might need to shop for a new one though!

Fellsbells · 26/01/2026 09:52

A grey start to the week and the scales were up this morning. Last minute snacking yesterday evening has nobbled me. Stupid delicious home baking. Strength training is on the calendar today.

LemonDrizzle23 · 26/01/2026 10:41

January has vanished and has not been wildly productive for me either @PatienceOfEngels Ive basically spent January trying to lose December’s gain 🙄

Thankfully as my hormones seem to be receding, my weight seems to be dropping back to what it was last week. Periods definitely cause temporary weight gain!

Had a horrendous weekend of sleep, our mattress has definitely given up the ghost. So this week, we go mattress shopping as well. So much harder to eat healthy when knackered…..

stealthninjamum · 26/01/2026 13:18

A second bad weekend for me in a row. Dd1 decluttered her bedroom and the main thing she got rid of was chocolates and shortbread that were Christmas presents. It baffles me that she keeps chocolates for months and doesn’t eat them. I had intended to throw them away but didn’t…..

On the subject of mini hot cross buns I have been known to buy them and freeze them. Neither of my dc like them so I wouldn’t never just buy a packet. After freezing them you can just defrost them one at time and put them in the oven for 5 minutes at a time for a small treat.

Fellsbells · 26/01/2026 18:12

I blame hormones and cold grey weather for today’s efforts. I’ve been so hungry and gone massively over calories.
Tomorrow is a new day!

TheWayTheLightFalls · 26/01/2026 18:34

OMAD done! Achingly trendy sandwich from somewhere in Camberwell. It was delicious! Just coffee etc otherwise. Lots of walking. Will weigh tomorrow - taking bets! Grin

Ehlace · 26/01/2026 22:27

I think I'm out this week - pre menstrual and not been calorie counting! Back on it when she's come

Positivepositron · 27/01/2026 11:15

After initial excitement of leaving the 60s behind the next day I was back up to 60kg, stayed there for the next day. Had a celebration wine last night so was up to 60.1 this morning. So I guess I will have to recelebrate leaving the 60s when I do again.

biscuitcat · 27/01/2026 12:05

Oooh I love a trendy sandwich (or a trendy anything) @TheWayTheLightFalls - I live out in the sticks so there’s nothing trendy for about 40 miles near me! I’m fairly busty so I think I’d probably lose a stone overnight in your position - good luck finding out!

I also just squeaked back over my ‘10’ boundary into the 80s, which I was expecting, so I’ve planned a protein heavy day today and will aim to drink plenty of water and avoid snacking even more than usual to see if I can get back down for WOW tomorrow.

Today’s menu:

L - gammon with eggs and a salad with seeds
D - chicken with a wine sauce, croquettes and spinach; Greek yoghurt with berries and meringue for dessert

FridayNighFeeling · 27/01/2026 13:03

Good luck @TheWayTheLightFalls I've got very little to get rid of, so wouldn't make much difference on the scales.... how has the recovery been? I'm pleased you've been able to get out and have a nice sandwich.

Yeah, still eating everything in sight FFS! Annoying myself now but not sure how to get out of the funk.

Good luck to all WOWing tomorrow

TheWayTheLightFalls · 27/01/2026 13:16

So (hilariously? or only to me?) I’m exactly the same weight as the day before surgery 😆 🤦‍♀️ I’ve no idea how that happened. They were 34DD so not exactly small. Anyway, onwards! Today is OMAD too.

socks1107 · 27/01/2026 13:42

I seem to be on target for 5lbs loss this month. That leaves a total of 9lbs to go and I’ll have lost more than I ever set out to do this time last year.
each day my moving average comes down and although I get daily fluctuations overall week on week is decreasing again! I’m loving 14 hour fasting as it just fits what I need with counting calories.
good luck to everyone on wow tmrw - will read and catch up later on my way home from work

BlackCatFanClub · 27/01/2026 16:16

After DD being unwell I have come down with a cold. Trying to be good with food and I am holding steady but not losing. No steps and no gym though. January has just been a bit of a disaster.

FridayNighFeeling · 27/01/2026 17:53

You've been through a lot, so you may find that things adjust over time @TheWayTheLightFalls weigh again in a week or two Flowers

ImALittlePea · 27/01/2026 18:46

I've had a few days off my phone, but back now.

Weekend was ok eating wise - not perfect but no takeaways! I did have some wine though, whoopsie! But it didn't send me sideways on Sunday as has been known...

Yesterday:
L - 2 scrambled eggs, feta, beans
D - risotto with green veg on the side. Greek yogurt, fruit and honey
2 x exercise classes - felt so good to get back to them!
1390 cals

Today:
L - beef chilli, sprinkle of cheddar, banana
D - sausages, sweet potato wedges, peas and gravy. Greek yogurt, fruit and honey
1240 cals

Trying hard to keep all my nutrients in the green side of the chart on NC, but also focused on getting a good amount of fruit and veg in which is sometimes tipping my sugar over. I am going to try and cut out the sugar in my hot drinks - might keep my 1/2 sugar in my morning tea, and in my coffee when I have one (not daily), but then have no sugar or fruit tea for the rest of the day.

Sending get well and quick recovery wishes to everyone who needs it ❤️ and good luck to the WoWers tomorrow. I'm going to stick to Friday weigh ins for now, I think.

biscuitcat · 28/01/2026 06:30

Good morning WOW-ers!

I’m pleased with this week and am 1.5lbs down - at my current trajectory I’m hopeful of meeting the goal I set at the start of the month of being into the 11s when I finish my maternity leave in mid-March.

SW - 15st10.5
CW - 12st7.5

Well done in advance everyone for checking in, whatever the number on the scale says 💜

Emmadaily · 28/01/2026 06:53

Good luck everyone 😊
Look forward to reading here later today
I weigh on Saturdays so will update then.

mermadeincornwall · 28/01/2026 07:12
