January 2026! Following on from LOSE IT! 8 Week Christmas Countdown

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a trim body) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.
These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.
As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable) that’s based on several sensible principles including:-

  1. Eat a variety of real whole foods such as fresh vegetables, salad, berries, beans, nuts, eggs, lean meat, good fats etc.

  2. Reduce sugars, simple carbs, alcohol and UPFs.

  3. Plan your meals & log your intake. Also be mindful of portion control.

  4. Intermittent fasting - research suggests (Zoe study) that adhering to an eating window of 10 hours can have a positive effect on health, wellbeing and weight loss. I personally have a eating window of approximately 7hrs - 12:00 - 19:00.

  5. Stay hydrated! 💧

  6. Move as much as able. Particularly strength based exercise. Muscle keeps you strong as well as revs up your metabolism.

  7. Get the fibre in! Great for your gut biome as well as 💩

  8. SLEEP! Good sleep hygiene and a regularly sleep routine can be beneficial to weight loss. I’m always more hungry following poor sleep.

  9. Be mindful about your own mental wellbeing and try not to eat your feelings. We’ve all been there!

  10. Be kind to yourself. One or two slip ups won’t undo all your previous efforts. Just check-in with yourself, reinforce your good intentions and carry on.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 2lbs.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? Any recipes/workouts that have worked for you, you’d like to share?

@ImALittlePeaIve never tried to freeze grapes, but people rave about them! Good to add to wine in summer too apparently, as they cool without diluting (like an ice cube would.) Let us know if it’s worth a go!

I did my yoga practice today. I have found out that as well as being overweight and inflexible, I also apparently have shit balance 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ but I’m still absolutely loving it. Feels like something that could really change my body if I keep pursuing it.

Scales still high after the weekend, but I’m hoping they’ll chill out by tomorrow for WOW.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/01/2026 18:00

Evening all. My weight was 2lb down from yesterday, but I am still 2lbs up on last week’s WOW, so I have no idea what tomorrow will bring. It was a very big boozy weekend…

@WoodlandDragon i was just reading back a bit and your post about periods really resonated with me. I am early 50s and still in perimenopause, my periods are starting to get a bit irregular so it’s hard for me to monitor how I am in the run up to a period, but I definitely realise when I have one that it usually comes after a few days of feeling very lethargic and craving carbs. I think I’m currently in the longest spell since I had a period and I’m feeling a bit under par so I’m possibly due one, which could also be contributing to this week’s weight gain, but time will tell.

Good luck tomorrow WOWers!

Fellsbells · 20/01/2026 19:26

Just stress ate a piece of cake listening to the world’s least favourite orange president.

Not a great day. Haven’t managed to fit in my run and I’m over calories now. Fortunately yesterday was good so today’s weight was down.

ImALittlePea · 20/01/2026 19:44

Well, I've managed to avoid sweets, but I did have a small bag of hula hoops and a slice of my 5yo's mini pizza mid afternoon. Finishing the day der my daily calorie allowance, have filled my 5-a-day apple on the app, and my daily graph is all in the green. I'll take that 😊

Ehlace · 20/01/2026 20:41

I'm not optimistic about tomorrow's wow! Even with a bit of a calorific weekend I think I should be about even on the week's calories so hopefully I won't have gained 😳

JuniorMint14 · 21/01/2026 06:42

Congrats @Marshmellowbunny 👏

Nice early WOW for me before I can sneak in any food and it's my first loss!

SW: 73.8kg
CW: 72.9kg
GW: 63kg

TheWayTheLightFalls · 21/01/2026 06:55

@Marshmellowbunny thank you - and well done! You’ve done brilliantly.

@Fellsbells listening to world news has me reaching for the cookie jar, I know the feeling!

Well done @JuniorMint14

I won’t WoW today as still recovering from surgery but broadly fine, moving around, going on walks, eating lots of protein and green veg. And doing physio exercises every time I boil the kettle as they recommended. I’m constipated which is v common after GA, codeine etc so lots of black coffee, fibre, walking, Lactulose - hope it does the trick.

Good luck Wowers!

LemonDrizzle23 · 21/01/2026 07:08

Good luck to everyone WOWing this morning!

@TheWayTheLightFalls I remember lactulose being super efficient after I gave birth. Hopefully it all sorts itself out.

Well my loss that was shaping up nicely this week appears to have vanished! Not quite sure how or where! Still we carry on. So it’s a stay the same for me this week.

biscuitcat · 21/01/2026 07:19

Gosh I know the feeling @Fellsbells - I think there’s a reason they invented the phrase ignorance is bliss, I try to ignore the news as far as I can at the moment!

@TheWayTheLightFalls it sounds like you’re doing really well so far, I bet the hard work you put in ahead of time is really making a difference.

And happy Wednesday all! My WOW:

SW - 15st10.5
CW - 12st9.5

So as of this week I have officially broken the 3st barrier! And dropped 1.5lbs this week - it’s 1lb higher than yesterday but I snacked in the evening and was a bit poorly so no real complaints about that. I’m 0.5kg away from the 70s now, I’d love to see that for the final WOW of January.

mermadeincornwall · 21/01/2026 07:50

Wow , stayed the same.

@Emmadaily 💕
@FridayNighFeeling 💕
Have a good WOW everyone, and a good week.

socks1107 · 21/01/2026 07:52

I’ve lost 1.6lbs this morning, doing a 14 hour fast alongside calorie counting seems to make a good difference!
Hope everyone is ok whether you sts, lose or gain

WoodlandDragon · 21/01/2026 07:59

Morning WoWers!

Unsurprisingly a stay the the same for me - period still hasn't shown, hopefully today's the day and by next week the scales will be moving again.

SW (1/1/26): 90.5 kg (BMI 28.6)
CW: 89.5 kg
Initial GW: 85 kg (BMI 26.8)
Ultimate GW: 75 kg (BMI 23.7)

JuniorMint14 · 21/01/2026 08:04

Thanks @TheWayTheLightFalls, wishing you a speedy recovery! Prune yoghurt and bran flakes helped me a lot when I was constipated during pregnancy.

Fantastic progress @biscuitcat !

FreshLemonZest · 21/01/2026 08:11

Good morning all. Missed last week's WOW as we were on holiday in Spain. Had a great time, ate so much seafood! Anyway, this morning I am 83.1kg. So, a 0.6kg increase, but I'm fine with it, have my sights firmly set on June, where I am healthier and happier in myself and wearing some of my lovely clothes that I can't fit into now!

moondip · 21/01/2026 08:15

@TheWayTheLightFalls I have to second Bran Flakes for keeping things moving. I always know when I’ve gone too many days without a nice bowl of Bran Flakes!

SW: 102.1kg
CW: 97.8kg

I’m down 1.2kg on last week. I’m happy with that but would like to keep things looking more like last week’s loss (-1.7kg), so I’ll be upping my exercise a bit this week (which currently only looks like walks, a bit of time on the exercise bike, and half a workout video at home 🫣). I also got some RENPHO scales like @TheRealHousewife - how are you finding all the additional stats?

HappyLittleTreeFriend · 21/01/2026 08:31

I’m feeling weak and very much not looking forward to work this morning after my stomach bug but at least the scales are good 😂🙈

CW: 9st 5lbs
GW: 9st

I think before December I was on 9st 7lbs so I’m pretty chuffed that I can see 9st 5lbs! Need to keep disciplined and keep going towards that 9st goal, the end is in sight!

Ehlace · 21/01/2026 08:54

144.6lbs, a loss of .2lbs - I'll take it!.great job everyone!

FridayNighFeeling · 21/01/2026 09:04

Morning, some good results.... well done to everyone.

Hope things calm in the digestive department @TheWayTheLightFalls Flowers

I'm playing around with the same 1lbs - today it's gone off, 20 -24lbs in total... frustrating, but my own fault for eating too much a lot of the time Hmm Having my berry nut butter crumble thing with Fage yogurt for breakfast seems to curb the urges to eat lots of sweet things, so trying it again today to try and stay on the wagon.

Positivepositron · 21/01/2026 09:04

I need to look back to see if I have Wednesday weights recorded as only just joined the thread.
SW (Friday 09.01) - 62.3kg
14.01- 61.6kg
21.01- 60.2kg
Goal I'm not certain maybe 54kg. I am giving myself lots of mini targets. So hit the most important one which was BMI under 25.

ImALittlePea · 21/01/2026 09:27

Good luck to everyone weighing today! I forgot 🤦‍♀️ but I also think the scales need new batteries so I'll get those today and I might weigh on Friday..

Plan today:
L - homemade frittata (eggs, peppers, onion, tomato, feta cheese) with baked beans; banana
D - baked potato, Quorn nuggets, peas and green beans

I might have my greek yoghurt and fruit after the school run to try and swerve my attention from picking at the kids tea!! And I'm going to freeze my grapes shortly for my after dinner sugar craving.

If I stick to that, I'll be 200 under on calories with 7 hits of fruit & veg. My daily graph is showing this based on logging planned food only - over on sugar but over half is natural sugars from fruit & veg. Over on carbs too, which is confusing as I'm not having any bread and one jacket potato - can anyone enlighten me based on the food above where all the carbs are coming from?!

stealthninjamum · 21/01/2026 09:36

Good morning everyone

Starting Weight 197
Last week 186.1
Today 185.2

Mini target is 181 by Valentine’s Day (in the 12s)

I’m pleased with this as I made some unhealthy choices. I’m thinking that I need to be 100% focused to meet my mini target now.

Positivepositron · 21/01/2026 10:53

Any ideas for making a birthday feel special without food/ drink treats. Husbands birthday coming up and we are both dieting and dry Januarying. We don't ever go overboard with birthdays but would still like it to be nice. I have a gift he'll like and we will also get a takeaway as a family and a meal out for me and him so don't want anything food related but can't really think of anything particular to brighten up his day. He is working that day as well.

TheRealHousewife · 21/01/2026 11:38

Good Morning Everyone

WOW not very wow with another 1lb gain. Aiming for the Zoe macros is sabotaging my weight. Prior to Zoe I was maintaining but would have welcomed another half stone loss. I will continue to follow the principles but aiming for 30g fibre is just too much food for my needs. I can get extra by having psyllium husk in water as no calories but that’s just one type of fibre. My diet pre-Zoe reached around 20g fibre, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Ive caught a cold/virus and feel somewhat under par… just debating if going for a short walk in the grey wet weather will be beneficial or not.

Menu
Meal 1 - Mixed vegetable, lentil and chicken soup - extra spicy 😋
Meal 2 - Leeks, butter beans, kale, carrots & chicken cassoulet.

Drinks- Tea, black coffee, hibiscus tea & water.

@Positivepositron A bit of rumpy pumpy….

Some great results being shared! Congratulations to everyone! Even if you’ve not lost or even gained as just posting your update you’re remaining mindful! 👌👏❤️

Apologies for not individually replying but I’m feeling proper grotty x

Well done everyone.

@TheRealHousewife that’s so annoying for you. You’re probably healthier overall as a silver lining with all the fibre.

I’m half a pound down on average this week. Today’s being the best at 9st2.5. I think it might be a bit of a cheat weight because it’s a post run, post wee, not eaten anything yet, naked weight. short of shaving my head I couldn’t have done more.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 21/01/2026 15:44

Congratulations to everyone who got a result they were happy with today. Unsurprisingly I was 1lb up from last week’s WOW, but I’m going to
see where I am on Friday.

@ImALittlePea you should be able to see on the daily diary which items are high in carbs. You can add columns for things you are particularly keen on monitoring and it will show you content for individual items. From diary options go to nutrient preferences.
