January 2026! Following on from LOSE IT! 8 Week Christmas Countdown

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a trim body) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.
These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.
As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable) that’s based on several sensible principles including:-

  1. Eat a variety of real whole foods such as fresh vegetables, salad, berries, beans, nuts, eggs, lean meat, good fats etc.

  2. Reduce sugars, simple carbs, alcohol and UPFs.

  3. Plan your meals & log your intake. Also be mindful of portion control.

  4. Intermittent fasting - research suggests (Zoe study) that adhering to an eating window of 10 hours can have a positive effect on health, wellbeing and weight loss. I personally have a eating window of approximately 7hrs - 12:00 - 19:00.

  5. Stay hydrated! 💧

  6. Move as much as able. Particularly strength based exercise. Muscle keeps you strong as well as revs up your metabolism.

  7. Get the fibre in! Great for your gut biome as well as 💩

  8. SLEEP! Good sleep hygiene and a regularly sleep routine can be beneficial to weight loss. I’m always more hungry following poor sleep.

  9. Be mindful about your own mental wellbeing and try not to eat your feelings. We’ve all been there!

  10. Be kind to yourself. One or two slip ups won’t undo all your previous efforts. Just check-in with yourself, reinforce your good intentions and carry on.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 2lbs.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? Any recipes/workouts that have worked for you, you’d like to share?

Thank you @TheRealHousewife !

Signing in. Not weighing this week or being watchful about what I eat. Haven’t gone nuts but certainly eating more than usual. Planning to rein things back in in the new year.

BlackCatFanClub · 28/12/2025 16:36

Signing in. Really trying to careful but failing. Roll on January!

moondip · 28/12/2025 16:44

Signing in. I was overweight before getting pregnant, gave birth this summer, and have only put on more weight since. I’ve started feeling really bad about myself lately; I’ve been overweight before but never this much and have never experienced much shame around it before. I need to make a huge shift soon.

BraceFace92 · 28/12/2025 16:46

Signing in! I’ve started Weight Watchers again as I find it helps me focus on healthy food!

Trying to get healthier habits started whilst still enjoying the holidays, and then strict routine from 1st Jan!

socks1107 · 28/12/2025 16:53

I’m back for year 2 and to continue from 2025. Three stone loss ( small gain likely by next Monday ) and aiming for another stone by July. My weight loss is painfully slow so I’m setting the tone early for the next part of this

LemonDrizzle23 · 28/12/2025 17:42

Thank you for the new thread @TheRealHousewife Checking in for when January rolls around!

TheRealHousewife · 28/12/2025 18:37

You’re welcome, great to see you all joining the new 2026 thread @TheWayTheLightFalls @BlackCatFanClub @BraceFace92 @LemonDrizzle23 @moondip @socks1107 👍🙂

Im gearing up for the final WOW of the year on the 31st. Overall my weight is about 3lbs less than this time last year. That said I did get to my lowest ever weight in 2025 only to bounce partly back up. Let’s see what this year brings 🤞

My mantra for the coming year is ‘One Pound At A Time’ 👌

Checking in for January. Thank you for the new thread @TheRealHousewife 🩷 here's to a better, healthier 2026 🤞🏼
See you all on the other side.
Have a fantastic New Year! 🥰

biscuitcat · 28/12/2025 19:15

Checking in for January - thank you for the new thread, @TheRealHousewife!

My first goal (after I lose my Christmas 1kg gain!) is to get down into the 70s, and then as I mentioned on the last thread, I’d love to be in the 11 stone bracket for mid March when I end my maternity leave. If my previous rate of loss holds, that should be achievable.

@moondip - please don’t feel ashamed (easier said than done, I know!). We live in a society which makes gaining weight SO easy, and you’ve got a small baby which is really challenging. When I first joined here in June I felt so embarrassed by how much I weighed that it must have been a month or even two before I actually shared my weight each week on Wednesday, but this is such a kind and supportive group, and recognising that you want to improve your health is an amazing and essential first step 💜

TheRealHousewife · 28/12/2025 20:04

You’re welcome @Marshmellowbunny & @biscuitcat . @biscuitcat Ive every confidence in you achieving your goal 👍

One thing I’ve started doing is having an alarm set for the start and finish of my eating window/intermittent fasting. Audible reminder to START/STOP EATING and to clean and close the kitchen 👍

Please can I join? I lost a stone and a half earlier in the year but have plateaued and expect I've gained weight over Christmas.

Ehlace · 29/12/2025 01:01

I'd like to join please. This time last year I wanted to lose 10lbs to take me to 130lbs and a healthy BMI, now I need to loose 22lbs to get there!

I doing dry January, vegetarian January and attempting to up my fruit/veg intake. I also.want to follow a January yoga/pilates programme

Valhalla17 · 29/12/2025 01:11

I would like to join pls. Im weighing myself in the morning, but reckon im about 180lbs. My ideal weight is about 135lbs, so a long way to go! 😅

I intend on:

having an eating window of 12-8
Getting at least 10k steps a day
Gym twice a week
Pilates or Yoga in the mornings (short 15mins to kick off my day)

Will start tomorrow....

moondip · 29/12/2025 05:14

Thank you @biscuitcat- you’re right. I have always been an emotional eater, and I think that’s only intensified since I gave birth. I’m glad to have found this supportive thread 💗 I’m going to weigh myself on the morning of Wednesday and go from there with a plan (since I haven’t weighed myself in a few weeks and dread to know what I’ll see tbh!).

Alwayslearning25 · 29/12/2025 08:45

@moondip I feel the same. Allthough I've got 2 children under 10, this year it was study that got me overweight. I finished my course in June but have carried on emotional eating.

Signing in. I've not weighed myself for a while as I'm due on, and I've found it's very demotilising to weigh myself the week before my period. New years eve I will weigh and maybe do measurements. I have eaten lots of sweet stuff.

Last time I weighed i was still plataouing at my peak of 75kg. So maybe the changes have stopped me climbing up to the obese category, but I've not lost anything.

I've said before I'm contemplating the low carb bootcamp but, while trying to ease myself in this week, I've found eggs or full fat yogurt, without any carbs alongside for breakfast gives me reflux, generally feeling a bit sick. Possibly making sure I have veg for breakfast alongside could help...I am curious to try it out for 2 weeks, but I am starting to think it's not right for me. I'm not genetically at risk of diabeties or epilepsy....

Later today I'll go for a run. (C25k)

SantiagoSky · 29/12/2025 08:53

Also signing in. I was ill over Xmas and therefore didn't gain any weight which is a small plus. I have 72.3 kg right now and want to go down to 70 (and eventually 65 by mid of 2026). Still not feeling so well but will go for a walk later, and eat little and protein heavy today.

moondip · 29/12/2025 09:08

@Alwayslearning25I feel you on the way studying affects eating. I was studying up until I got pregnant and think that sedentary lifestyle (and also feeling guilty any time I did step away from the desk for a walk/exercise/etc.) set me up poorly for where I’m at now.

I am also wondering if anyone is on Sertraline and has found they’ve gained a lot of weight with it, and also how people might be managing weight gain with medicated/controlled hypothyroidism. I’m hypothyroidic and it’s generally under control (levels aren’t perfect but pretty steadily around what they should be). But still I’m struggling weight wise and with this constant emotional appetite. I word it like that because it’s definitely not a physical hunger with actual hunger pangs. Just a never-ending, never-satisfied feeling :(

LBB2020 · 29/12/2025 10:20

Hi, can I join too?
I am going to weigh and start properly on 5th Jan (we’re currently away on holiday).
I imagine I’m around 11st5lbs and I’d like to get to 10st ideally by the school summer holidays.
Plan is no eating after evening meal, lower carb (I am pre diabetic), exercise at least 3 times a week and minimum of 8000 steps per day (to increase to 10,000 once I have that under my belt as currently I sometimes struggle to hit 5000 steps per day due to WFH 😳). Also need to drink more water as I can easily go all day only having a cup or two of coffee!

NoMoreLindor · 29/12/2025 10:41

I just weighed myself. 3lb up over Christmas. To be honest it could be worse!

socks1107 · 29/12/2025 11:18

So I’ve started again today. The number on the scale this morning had jumped and I am a daily weigher so back to it!
I will be taking Wednesday to Saturday off again but will stick at maintenance and two good days won’t be a bad thing.
my dh is recovering what we think may have been Covid over Xmas and I have a sore throat, tingly nose and feel a bit off so a day of good wholesome food and no booze may help!!

TheRealHousewife · 29/12/2025 11:39

Good Morning You Lovely Lot!

Welcome to the thread @NoMoreLindor @Ehlace @Valhalla17 @moondip @SantiagoSky @LBB2020 @socks1107 Its great to see some new starters too 👍

Im in the middle of baking some gluten free Parmesan cheese shortbread biscuits. I adapted a Nigella recipe 🤞I’m going to enter the ingredients into my app and work out the macros.

Menu
Meal 1 - Bubble & Squeek with sliced ham. Brown sauce.
Meal 2 - Cheese platter, salad, coleslaw & Parmesan cheese biscuits.

I braved the scales and I’m about 1lb up from Christmas feasting, which will hopefully be off for official wow.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 29/12/2025 11:58

Thank you @TheRealHousewife i’m signing in to get back on track for January! 2025 has been a bit of a washout, though I haven’t piled willing back on. Planning to have my first WOW on 7th January to allow myself a few days to recover from the forecast excesses of New Year and give myself a true baseline. My priority will be exercise and getting back to to tracking calories on nutracheck. I’ve already got a few unavoidable social activities lined up for January that I will have to navigate around. But my fitness levels have fallen through the floor, and I need to sort that out as a priority.

MabeltheAble · 29/12/2025 13:36

Hello, I'd like to join too please. I had a routine check up with the GP before Christmas that highlighted I've gained 2 stone in the last 3 years and it's having an effect on everything from blood pressure to joint pain.
I'm starting today, keeping it simple til the 5th - move more, drink more water and slow down on the sugar.
Best of luck everyone, this is the year! x

CinnamonSweet73 · 29/12/2025 15:57

I'm back in for 2026!
I'm away for the next few days, so lots of eating out, but back in the gym and eating better from Saturday!
I have kept up my steps up over 10k a day over the Christmas hols but other than that just relaxing and enjoying.
Best of luck everyone 😀

TheRealHousewife · 29/12/2025 16:15

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo You're welcome! You’ll soon find your fitness groove again 👍

Welcome to the thread - @MabeltheAble That sounds a sensible start 👍
@CinnamonSweet73 Well done on keeping the step count up! Fantastic! 👏
