January 2026! Following on from LOSE IT! 8 Week Christmas Countdown

Fresh Start, New Habits! To reach optimum health and vitality (as well as a trim body) we need to focus not only on our food intake; but movement, our mental health and sleep quality too!

Who doesn’t want to feel good and energetic as well looking great!

Get on board to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself.
These threads are for those who’d like to lose weight and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.
As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable) that’s based on several sensible principles including:-

  1. Eat a variety of real whole foods such as fresh vegetables, salad, berries, beans, nuts, eggs, lean meat, good fats etc.

  2. Reduce sugars, simple carbs, alcohol and UPFs.

  3. Plan your meals & log your intake. Also be mindful of portion control.

  4. Intermittent fasting - research suggests (Zoe study) that adhering to an eating window of 10 hours can have a positive effect on health, wellbeing and weight loss. I personally have a eating window of approximately 7hrs - 12:00 - 19:00.

  5. Stay hydrated! 💧

  6. Move as much as able. Particularly strength based exercise. Muscle keeps you strong as well as revs up your metabolism.

  7. Get the fibre in! Great for your gut biome as well as 💩

  8. SLEEP! Good sleep hygiene and a regularly sleep routine can be beneficial to weight loss. I’m always more hungry following poor sleep.

  9. Be mindful about your own mental wellbeing and try not to eat your feelings. We’ve all been there!

  10. Be kind to yourself. One or two slip ups won’t undo all your previous efforts. Just check-in with yourself, reinforce your good intentions and carry on.

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st 2lbs.

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why? Any recipes/workouts that have worked for you, you’d like to share?

@Fellsbells but did you take off your earrings? And try the scales on various different floors?

I forgot to WOW this morning and I'm damned if I'm going to step on the scales any other time but first thing/post wee/naked so it'll have to be a WOTh again. Am hoping for a sneaky pound.

@TheWayTheLightFalls really good luck with your post-surgery recovery.

ImALittlePea · 21/01/2026 17:12

Oh no, feel better soon @TheRealHousewife

Ahh thanks @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo I forgot you could change the columns! I've added carbs to keep an eye for a few days. It just goes to show how easy it is to get assumptions wrong - yesterday I had pasta, some of my daughter's pizza, crisps, but my carbs came in just under the target number - I'd have expected it to be higher yesterday than today.

My focus at the moment is dropping sugar intake. Think I've said it before but I'm craving it so much with the elimination of wine from my diet! Grapes are currently freezing to try later 🤞 and I've just had a bowl of greek yoghurt, strawberry, banana and honey to stave the hunger off until dinner (which is later than normal tonight).

I know once I break a habit, I'm good with it being done. So a few more days of making sure I don't touch the sweets or biscuits and I'll be in a good place. Just hope the scales reflect the effort (when I eventually buy batteries for them!)

TheWayTheLightFalls · 21/01/2026 17:38

@ImALittlePea I loooooove frozen grapes! Esp in the warmer months, and bonus points if they're the Sable or "Cotton Candy" grapes. I can eat insane quantities.

Wishing you a speedy recovery @TheRealHousewife .

Walked loads today, in the rain. And decided to stop at two meals as I feel I've eaten well.

socks1107 · 21/01/2026 18:20

@therealhousewife would you mind talking to me about which supplement you use for fibre? I struggle to get 5grams and as a consequence my digestion is sluggish. I’ve been looking at physillium husk but no idea where to start and when to take it. I can’t be running to the loo at work if that makes sense!!

ImALittlePea · 21/01/2026 20:41

@TheWayTheLightFalls I wasn't too sure on them... I found them too cold 😂 not sure what I was expecting tbh! Made myself laugh if nothing else.

LemonDrizzle23 · 22/01/2026 07:22

Well my weight appears to have now jumped up by another couple of lbs overnight, so I’m guessing it’s hormonal! Just going to carry on, and probably ignore the scales for a couple of days.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 22/01/2026 07:51

I’m another who finds it hard to really up my fibre. Since monitoring it, I’m usually around 20g a day (sometimes more, sometimes less), but just one low fibre meal can throw off the tracker for the whole day!

NoMoreLindor · 22/01/2026 08:48

Once again I forgot the WOW so I went for WOT. Just down 1lb but last week was really tough with a family crisis taking over so I'm happy to have lost that one pound and not gained any. So 4lb down altogether.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 22/01/2026 09:10

Urgh that's annoying @LemonDrizzle23 !

Fibre - I'm another one who can either get enough fibre or lose weight, it's one or the other. I'm not sure what the answer is but it's not porridge oats, that's for sure. I stick to high fibre veg and hope for the best, for the most part.

RedBlackBlue · 22/01/2026 10:22

Morning everyone.

WoT for me is another 0.5lb down. 2.5 in total.

socks1107 · 22/01/2026 10:36

Today I saw a whole new low both in recorded weight and moving average! Super close to the 10s now, after being in the 14s that’s something I really thought I’d never say!
I’m focused again after Xmas off and with a holiday in March am very motivated!!

I’ve found M&S do min hot cross buns (chocolate ones) Ong I love them and I can have one for half the calories 😊

ImALittlePea · 22/01/2026 12:39

Meals today:

L - frittata, lots of lettuce and cucumber and some vinaigrette. Banana
D - roast chicken, home sweet potato wedges, peas and green beans. Greek yogurt with fruit and honey

All in with tea etc I'm about 285 cals under for the day, and 8.5 portions of fruit and veg. Unsurprisingly given that, the sugar bar on my stats is over, but over half is natural.

Should I be trying to keep that under 100% even if most of it is from fruit and veg? I do have half a sugar in my tea (and I have about 4 cups a day), and 1/2 tsp of honey with my yoghurt and fruit. I don't feel like that's crazy, but I also don't want to sabotage my efforts and not see results?!

Pollyparanoia · 22/01/2026 13:14

My WOT is down a pound (I think):

SW in December 160lb, 72.5kg
CW 150.8g
GW 144-146lb, 65-66kg

My next mini target is 150 (nearer to 10.5 than to 11 stone).
Then the target is to be in the 140s (ie 149)
Then it's 147 as that's 10 and a half stone.
Then it's 146 ie nearer to 10 than to 11.
Then it's anything under that and staying that way. Though in an ideal world I'd be nearer 10 than 10.5

Not that I'm obsessed or anything...

That's how I'm doing it as well, lots of milestones so I always feel like I'm achieving.

Well done on your progress.

HappyLittleTreeFriend · 22/01/2026 17:54

Well done @socks1107and everyone else who is seeing success 😊🙌🏻🙌🏻 and well done all of us for staying accountable 😊👍🏻👍🏻

L - Chicken soup and sourdough toast
D - Beef stew and dumplings ready meal

Snacks - Mini chocolate beignet and some mini eggs! Might treat myself to a Muller Rice later as well after dinner

I’ve had an easy week of staying under my calorie count sadly because I’ve been feeling so poorly and had no appetite! But my appetite seems to have returned a bit today thankfully so hoping to feel much better and less weak tomorrow!

ImALittlePea · 22/01/2026 18:07

Just finished my pud and updated my log for the day. 230 cal deficit and 9.5 hits f&v for the day. Very happy with that!

NC is showing an overall deficit of 400 cals for the week. Habits are starting to shift back into place, I hope... Old me would already have wine chilling in the fridge for the weekend but we're still off that, so I'm hoping for a weekend on the same trend as this week. We've already picked our menu so we won't get that hankering for a takeaway.

Also super impressed with sweet potato with gravy - I've never had that combo before and it was so much nicer than expected. Helps that DH and both kids all ate theirs - 4 clean plates of the same dinner is sadly a rarity in this house! And about 550ish cals - it's going on our regular rotation now.

Ohhhhhh @HappyLittleTreeFriend I'm not a fan of mini eggs but the mini egg BARS... Now they are my favourite chocolate ever. They're all over the shops now and I'm beyond impressed with myself that I've not succumbed yet. I can't guarantee I won't get through the weekend without some though 👀

Positivepositron · 22/01/2026 18:48

I had cornflakes with milk, two boiled eggs and an apple, and chilli with avocado and egg today, and one chocolate digestive.
45 minute walk done and some decorating.

ImALittlePea · 23/01/2026 09:06

WoF -2.5lb 🎉

Can't remember when I last weighed so that's not a week's loss, but a loss is a loss and I'm glad to have the ball rolling on getting my weight down.

Plan today:
L - frittata and salad, Greek yogurt, honey and fruit
D - lasagne (at family's)

Can't log accurately as I don't know the recipe they're using, but based on generic homemade lasagne on NC I'll be under cals but over on fat.

biscuitcat · 23/01/2026 09:31

The thread is moving so quickly at the moment!

@socks1107 I adore the M&S hot cross buns! The kids have the normal flavour mini ones for breakfast throughout the year. I try not to buy the chocolate ones as they’re far too delicious!

@ImALittlePea - I’m also having lasagne today for dinner, along with a salad (and garlic bread for husband/kids - I bought one that I’m not keen on so I don’t feel deprived by skipping it!), and I imagine I’ll be joining you being over on fat for the day. Saying that, I’m over on most days but quite a long way under on carbs, so I don’t think my eating pattern really matches my Nutracheck settings.

LemonDrizzle23 · 23/01/2026 15:22

I love mini eggs! I am ignoring them for now in the supermarket however, as we’ve only just finished the Christmas chocolates 😂 I did buy DH a creme egg today, but it has seriously been hit by ‘shrinkflation’ and looks absolutely tiny!!

I think I’m doing ok calorie-wise, and I’m carrying on with the yoga - also did some meditation and stretching yesterday, so I think the yoga is generally a good influence on me. I do however still have very annoying PMS style symptoms (don’t get proper periods on the pill) and I refuse to get on the scale until my boobs are no longer sore!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/01/2026 18:16

Mini hot cross buns you say @socks1107? oooooh.

i went a bit off the rails last night and had wine and snacks BUT I braved logging it all in nutracheck, and thanks to a low cal dinner and lunch I only went over by around a hundred cals, so not too bad. It is however my birthday at the weekend and that will involve lots of food. I’m just so sluggish and tired just now, and that makes it really difficult to stay motivated and energised about healthy habits. It’s very grey and wet here too this week which doesn’t help.

Fellsbells · 23/01/2026 20:59

Happy Friday Losers.

I’ve been a bit too snacky today, but I’ve walked and run 11km so broken even overall. Current average is the same as last week. A bad weekend is going to push me higher so keeping a close eye on that.

Positivepositron · 24/01/2026 08:02

I've hit another good milestone. 59.8kg this morning so out of the 60s. Though some events next week so hoping not to bounce back up too much.

BlackCatFanClub · 24/01/2026 10:15

I can’t really catch up but had a disastrous 2 weeks.
DD and I had a flu like big and were basically in bed for a week and then she had a downturn and ended up in hospital for a few nights.
So I have been living on a diet of toast and biscuits.
All good now and my weight is okay this morning, only slightly up from my lowest. Not been to the gym but I spent the day cleaning yesterday.

FridayNighFeeling · 24/01/2026 18:23

Sounds scary and exhausting @BlackCatFanClub I hope she's on the mend properly now.

Mixed week here... eaten everything in sight, but period has now shown up so hoping things will settle. I've also found out I'm an inch taller than I thought, so my BMI is better than it was Grin Have managed to walk 18 miles this week, can do another 5 on Monday but it's been far too wet this week gone and next week according to the forecast.
