Following on from LOSE IT! Awesome August

Drum roll please! Now it’s the time for an Autumn Re-set!

If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am idling around 9st 4lbs after having been hovering around 8st 12lb for several months. TIME FOR ACTION and get back on it! 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

10st 6 for me, still no real change since post holiday, but that’s ok as I know I’ve been off the boil.

had planned to do bodycombat today but I ache after yesterday’s strength class and had a terrible night’s sleep combined with a long drive for work, so I’m ready to drop tbh. But eating on track and no snacks!

Cheeseagain · 11/09/2024 18:45

well done everyone - does autumn make it harder or easier for you. I’m waaaaay down on steps in this miso weather.

Against all the odds I’m down 0.5lb for WOW

had a rough week which equals wrong food choices. This feels like the hardest thing to break and has really made me think about a plan for these times.

onwards to next goal

Why is the evening such a difficult point in the day to get through without making bad food choices?

I’ve increased my daily calorie allowance to help find a balance and to stop me over eating, but I’ve still had a few things after dinner that I didn’t really need.

LemonDrizzle23 · 11/09/2024 21:49

I hear you @Fellsbells I had some mini chocolate log things this evening, and they were hugely calorific and not even that satisfying. The only way to do it for me is to not have the stuff in the house. I should know better by now!

Had a good walk and stretch at the gym while DS was doing tennis. Also managed 10mins on the stepper machine. Will see how my knee feels tomorrow. Definitely did a good job of getting my heart rate up, which is my autumn plan.

HomemadeHallie · 11/09/2024 21:56

I’ve skipped WOW this week as I know I will be up after my lousy efforts this week and my period.

however I have done well today, coming in at around 1400 calories. And I have done about 45 minutes of walking. I worked from home today and used my kitchen counter as a stand up desk with my laptop on 😂 thought I would try it out and burn a few more calories by standing!

NothingTraLaLa · 11/09/2024 21:59

I’m slinking back into this thread with my tail between my legs after a couple of months off.

Sadly the weight has crept back up a little: before I went on holiday in July I was just under 116lbs, today I weighed in at just under 120 lbs. Ok, it’s not terrible, but if I’d lost 4 lbs instead of gained it, I’d have reached my target.

I’ve made a start with yoga classes and a couple of gym sessions. The food angle needs some work. DD has just started sixth form at a new school; she’s enjoying it but it’s stressful making new friends and getting to know new teachers and one of her ways of unwinding is baking, which is murder on the waistline. She’s getting better at making things that can be frozen to limit the temptation to scoff it all!

HomemadeHallie · 11/09/2024 22:01

Just saw this! Helped me realise where zi could be by Christmas.

Iamnotaloggrip · 11/09/2024 22:22

I like that @HomemadeHallie, 1lb a week would do me! I maintained this week, which isn’t surprising really given the weekend.

Today was another salad for lunch then curry for tea. Still finishing off birthday cake 🤦‍♀️ but was good at work and didn’t have the biscuits being offered round.

I’ve also realised - somewhat belatedly - that having milk in my coffee breaks my fast so that probably hasn’t been as effective as I was hoping. I’ll have to try to get used to black coffee!

LegoTherapy · 11/09/2024 22:28

All the walking after 6 weeks off plus an intensive few hours in the garden equals screaming hamstrings and some fluid retention. It must be fluid because I've eaten very little this week except hummus and bread sticks and porridge. Not great food wise this week at all in terms of ensuring I eat properly. So a wow of 55kg for me which is slightly up. Do I care? No. I'm in a funny mood this week. A bit down really after everything and the weather is absolutely shocking 4 seasons in one day from torrential rain to hail and thunder and lightning to sunshine.
More gardening tomorrow! I find it great for my mental health so between walking in the woods and the garden my mood should shift. It's a funny time of year I find yet autumn is my favourite season.

Welcome to the new posters! These threads have seen me wave goodbye to over 2 stone and keep it off. You'll be in good company and there'll be no judgement here.

PatienceOfEngels · 12/09/2024 07:43

Welcome to new posters and returnees!

Feeling good atm - relaxed and reduced aches and pains. My knees are better when I move more and have managed to calm my pf with daily yoga and breathing exercises. A colleague told me today that I look happy and relaxed whihc for me is the most important thing!

Out on the deck at 6am for yoga again today after having to practice insider yesterday because of the rain. Managed to resist food last night and stick to mint tea after dinner.

Today:
-boiled egg, rye toast, coffee
-fruit/veg plate
-spicy pumpkin soup with bread and olive oil/butter
-dinner will be a surprise from DH

Didn't walk last night as DH was out (I took the opportunity to watch the first half of a play on National Theatre at Home) so will try and get out for a walk with a podcast tonight.

Tomorrow I'm going to try to do a few more autumn jobs in the garden.

Have a lovely day!

HomemadeHallie · 12/09/2024 08:02

Same @Iamnotaloggrip 1lb a week is my aim too!! Gives me a focus ready for Christmas!

I decided to weigh today instead of yesterday just to get a log.

10st 0.6 - very slightly up
31.5% - very slightly down

rainbow616 · 12/09/2024 13:32

@HomemadeHallie I think we all need to remember that sometimes. I sometimes get annoyed when I don't lose that much, but when you look at things like that, it puts weight loss into perspective

LegoTherapy · 12/09/2024 13:51

After the post this morning about between now and Christmas I had a look back to see what I weighed at Christmas last year and I weighed what I weigh now, well a pound more, so I'm really pleased with myself for being able to generally maintain that weight. I gained some at one point but am back down again so I hope this is my set weight, if set weights are actually a thing.

LemonDrizzle23 · 12/09/2024 14:30

I love that Christmas reminder @HomemadeHallie ! I'm a huge Christmas fan and it would make my year to be feeling good this Christmas.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 12/09/2024 16:38

HomemadeHallie · 11/09/2024 22:01

Just saw this! Helped me realise where zi could be by Christmas.

Oooh I like this.

Have had 4 biscuits today (the Lidl equivalent to the bahlsen ones) but also veggie soup and Vogel soya and linseed bread with spread plus for dinner having my turkey lasagne with rocket leaves.

Other snacks are 2 apricots, a plum and an orange. Had Rude Health granola along with Greek yogurt and blueberries and small amount honey but it really filled me up. Have had some cups of tea with skimmed milk, green tea too and might take a Nescafé decaff cappuccino in a takeaway cup on the way to the book club.

I’m off to a book club tonight but the weather is so appalling I’m actually driving there (could get bus and walk) so that almost 2 hour walk is out. It’s just too cold.

I am still 13 stone 9lb as of just now so pleased about that. Well done to any losers or anyone not gaining.

Fellsbells · 12/09/2024 18:44

Checking in here to be accountable for the evening.

B/L- egg, toast, guacamole. One crumpet.
D- salmon, sweet potato, green beans, Greek yoghurt.

I do not need anything else to eat today.

PatienceOfEngels · 13/09/2024 08:28

Morning all!

I wasn't planning on early yoga but got woken up at 5:30 by DC going to bathroom so need up doing starlight yoga at 6am. Sky was clear and I could see Orion in the sky. Still dark when I went back inside to shower. I might have to switch to a morning walk and do yoga later in the day (after school drop off on my days off, maybe at school in my classroom on days I'm in early) as it was pretty nippy this morning, especially my poor toes and fingers!

My scales finally seem to be dropping. For me hitting evening eating and weekend treats on the head is key. The last few nights have been water and herbal tea only after dinner - no chunks of cheese or unsalted nuts. I need to stay away from crisps at the weekend. 4kg to target and I know I can do it before Christmas if I just think about what I eat and know when to say stop.

Plan for today:
-yoga done and little walk done (done half my steps for the day)
B-boiled egg and rye toast, coffee
S-banana with greek yoghurt and honey.
L - ???want to stay away from bread??could make a chicken salad or have crudités with humous (have lots of sweet peppers in the fridge)
D - no idea - have to cook for DC to eat early because of activity, DH and I can eat later when he's home. Have chicken but not sure what to do with it. Not tomato-based (have had a tomato based curry this week and lasagne last night). Maybe a chicken stew? Or tray bake? Have lots of veg to choose from - peppers, mushrooms, courgettes, carrots, green beans, peas, sweetcorn.

My task is to resist the biscuit tin! No sweet snacks

ChickenChipsandBeans · 13/09/2024 10:45

Hi everyone, I'm rejoining the thread after a very busy summer season. 'Winter' routine starts on Monday so I will get back to my morning hours walk, need to cut out the crisps and other snacks that have crept back and really cut down on alcohol. I haven't walked or really done anything about losing weight since May. Looking forward to getting back to more structure. This time, I'm going to be more realistic and aim for 1lb a week loss, anything more will be a bonus. So by Christmas I would like to have lost a stone at least. Will weigh I on Monday morning.

RedBlackBlue · 13/09/2024 11:16

Chicken tray bake is one of my favourite easy go to meals @PatienceOfEngels

It is very cold today despite the sun being out! I'm debating switching the heating back on! And it's only September 😩

I went swimming this morning. Don't you hate it when there is a poser in the pool who doesn't seem to know/care about pool etiquette. He kept randomly stopping in the middle of the lane and splashing water over himself. Then he was laying over the steps as I was getting out. So annoying. Still managed to get 36 lengths done so was pleased as I had only aimed for over 20!

Food wise I still haven't been great, but I have improved my exercise and water intake so far this week so I'm pleased. Little steps.

PatienceOfEngels · 13/09/2024 15:55

I went for a chicken and barley stew.

I’ve had another good day.
B-Greek yoghurt with flax seeds and blueberries.
L- egg & avocado on toast. Handful of nuts.
D- pasta, bolognaise, salad one piece of garlic bread. Greek yoghurt jelly pudding.

15k steps.
No evening snacking.

Carry61 · 13/09/2024 21:03

So glad I’ve found this site to help with motivation.

TealIntermittentFaster · 14/09/2024 01:03

Forgot to update this earlier in the week but I list 4.4lbs in my first week of intermittent fasting.

Successfully fasted for between 17 and 19 hours each day and doing yoga and strength exercises most days.

I think my double chin is receding! Lol

Starting Weight: 18 stone 2.7lbs (253.7)
Current Weight: 17 stone 11.3lbs (249.3)
Goal Weight: 10 stone 7 lbs (147)

Week 1: -4.4 lbs

PatienceOfEngels · 14/09/2024 07:32

Well done everyone! @Fellsbells I've also managed to kick evening snacking on the head the last few nights and I feel so much better for it.

Yoga for the day done.
Trying to decide what to eat tonight. DC1 is away so toying with a takeaway or making something delicious at home. I love the flatbreads I made but wondering what meat to do with them. Maybe do chicken fajitas?
Also no clue what to have for lunch. Have lots of soup in the freezer, or a jacket potato.

Planning on spending the day outside as much as possible sorting the garden. Have started decluttering the house and managing to get rid of 2 boxes/bags of stuff per week either to clothing bank/charity shop/friends and colleagues. Making me feel so much lighter having an emptier more organised house (it's going to be a very long process!).

Fellsbells · 14/09/2024 08:53

Doing a WOS because I’ve dropped the carb water weight from earlier in the week. I’m a pound down from last week.

I am going out today and have a choice of outfits because they all fit which is a massive win. Normally everything is tight and I feel uncomfortable. It makes the hard work worth it, plus it’s saving money because my old clothes fit again. I feel better too. Some aches and pains have gone, my skin and nails are in better condition. It makes me hopeful for getting older that I can control how I feel by looking after myself.
