Following on from LOSE IT! July 2024

Schools out and Summer has finally arrived and it’s hot hot hot! And with it holidays, get togethers and family and friends having fun! Perhaps a time for being mindful that anything and everything is OK in moderation; whilst ensuring you get your water in (alternating with alcohol is an idea if a sesh is on the agenda) along with eating protein and healthy fats. It’s not a time for punitive regimes (although I never endorse that) or denying yourself. Enjoy the Summer and all its joys (we’ve waited long enough 😬) It’ll be September soon enough when we will start the Autumn Re-set!

If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am now maintaining around 8st 12lb. I find this weight is sustainable and easy to maintain. If I can do it anyone can 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

I started doing a pre-breakfast walk 2 months ago @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo (one of Michael Mosley's Just One Things) and I really found it set me up well for the day. I find yoga harder to fit in/motivate myself so have swapped it and put walk in the evening. Not sure how long this will last though as it gets darker in the mornings (and wetter! I draw the line at yoga in the rain). I would struggle to do a hard core workout like running/Shred on an empty stomach but for yoga or walking it's not a problem for me.

WoW - well, toying here so most of the loss I recorded yesterday has disappeared!

WoW -0.1kg

SW 77kg (oct 23 - did get down to 69kg Feb 24)
CW 72.9kg
GW 68kg

Food yesterday was seriously yummy. Will make the flatbreads recipe again, though not over struck on halloumi - would rather have chicken. Resisted the biscuit tin while child free.

Today:
✅20 mins yoga in the garden
B- boiled egg and rye toast, coffee
S-fruit plate
L-wrap with leftover halloumi/chicken/tzatziki/salad
S-Greek yoghurt and honey
D- going to be a scorcher here today so have already cooked some pasta for a cold pasta salad

Bought some real Greek yoghurt instead of supermarket brand 'Greek style' yoghurt to see what I think of it. Big price difference!

Fellsbells · 28/08/2024 07:17

Good luck today for WOW

SW 10st 10
CW 9st 5
GW 9st 3

Really pleased with my WOW, I’ve set a new target to see what another 2lbs looks like. At some point I’ll increase my calories and look at maintenance and building muscle.

Cheeseagain · 28/08/2024 08:05

Well against all the odds I’m 1lb down. Had thought would be up after a week away. Motivated for a good week now.

good luck everyone 💪🏻

LegoTherapy · 28/08/2024 09:17

Congratulations on the losses! @Fellsbells you and I were at a similar start weight and my goal was 9st 3lb too. I can't weigh today but after eating only two portions of yogurt yesterday I feel like I'll have dropped a pound today. I just couldn't eat with stress and I don't like eating in front of other people. Today will be worse. Tomorrow we will be home and we are getting take away pizza for dinner.
Last known weight was 8st 10lb yesterday. I'll weigh in the morning and see where I'm at.

Have a great day y'all!

LemonDrizzle23 · 28/08/2024 11:05

I am not WOW-ing today. I am on a weighing strike until next week when school goes back and life goes back to normal 😂 well done to everyone weighing today!

Looking forward to the September thread, and autumn in general. Want to buy myself some nice jumpers once the weather turns.

The outside yoga does sound wonderful @PatienceOfEngels

I tried my hand on the rowing machine yesterday and it seemed ok on various aching body parts. Aim is to build that up slowly over the next few weeks. Goal for autumn is to up my cardio.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 28/08/2024 19:42

Congratulations to those reporting losses today!

I weighed, but I’m not control it as it suggests I’m 5lbs up in just over a week. I’m feeling really bloated, so I’m going to go for a week of healthy eating and then see where I’m at for a bit of a reset.

I’ve been ok on the food front today, but I’m in a terribly glum mood, had a terrible day at work, someone was really shitty to me, and I got home late and lost my exercise window. If I exercise too late it buggers my sleep, and when I feel like this I find it really hard to divert my brain to exercise focus anyway. Harrumph.

we did early walks a lot during Covid @PatienceOfEngels it really set me up well for the day. It’ll get really dark here soon though, and that just doesn’t have the same effect on me sadly. Blasted work commute!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 28/08/2024 20:09

I’ve decided as I’m piling on weight and have my anti depressant medication issues that I’ll still post here but I’m going to join slimming world - they are nearer than weightwatchers and yes all these places can be cliquey but I’ll take this into consideration.

Right now my medication is making me crave carbs and food. So I have pineapple and plums but I go for the fatty carby stuff.

However in my local Sainsbury’s they’ve restocked minestrone slim a soup (that was gone for ages). I forgot to buy jelly as I make those as snacks in the fridge. I also had 2 dates as a snack today but no peanut butter in them. And I found a turkey mince lasagne WW recipe which I’ll try - have had this in the freezer for ages.

With my Valium which I have to take for now I feel less steady on my feet than usual and walking seems an uphill struggle. But got an important meeting re meds tomorrow so will ask about this.

LegoTherapy · 29/08/2024 01:38

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain that sounds toughFlowers be kind to yourself.

I have found things harder since trying to stop eating ultra processed food. Sometimes there's little choice when out and about and unorganised or not able to keep things cool due to circumstances. Today I've had biscoff, pain au chocolate, breadsticks, red pepper hummus, raspberries, pain au chocolate with one cup of tea and some water.

LegoTherapy · 29/08/2024 16:53

I seem to have dropped a couple of pounds in as many days. They will go bank on by tomorrow though I'm sure.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 29/08/2024 20:58

Today’s menu

B - boiled egg with toast
L - homemade tomato & lentil soup, some chicken, satsuma, quavers
D - bolognese with pasta

No snacks so far. No exercise either though… Tomorrow!

Despite a crappy few days. Have resisted wine and snacks, so I’ll take that as a win.

Fellsbells · 29/08/2024 22:27

Not a great day for me. I’ve blasted over my calorie allowance with some junk food. I’ve been really hungry too which hasn’t helped.

Plan for tomorrow is more water and keep to my calories.

LegoTherapy · 30/08/2024 09:32

Morning all. 54.7kg this morning. I don't normally do a Friday weigh in but I wasn't here to weigh on Wednesday. I'm happy with that especially as once the school run starts next week I'll be adding about 5 miles a day to my walk and might drop a little more.
Good luck to anyone else weighing today!
The sun is shining here and I hope you all have a lovely day.

LemonDrizzle23 · 30/08/2024 22:04

Off the back of a sensible couple of days, I have planned my meals - including lunch out on Sunday - for the weekend. We also have a couple of gym visits planned. Aiming for a good start to September!

Back to school excitement is in full swing here. School shoes bought, uniform labelled. Hair cut booked for tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. Looking forward to a nice new September thread!

PatienceOfEngels · 31/08/2024 08:12

@LemonDrizzle23 have only just clicked in my head that we'll be on a new thread tomorrow!

I have been back to school for 2 weeks and so far it's going well. Lovely classes, DC1 has started secondary and is now getting to school by themselves and coming home to an empty house a few days a week (HUGE step for them and us because of SEN) and DC2 is settling into new class with new teacher and classmates (his school has mixed classes of different year groups so he's gone from being the oldest to being the youngest in the class).

I love September as a new start - as a teacher one of the things I love about my job is being able to start anew and try again each year).

Food-wise going okay here but not perfect. But that's okay. Sticking to the important things - lots of water, no booze, limited snacking and UPF, lots of fruit and veg. Yesterday apart for my meals I had a chocolate waffle during the day and then a small bowl of crisps in the evening (I am a crisp addict so the fact I only had one bowl is a miracle!)

Have just finished my 2nd 30 day yoga programme for this summer (so 60x yoga over July and August!). Ready to start a new programme tomorrow and try to keep practicing outside for as long as possible.

Yesterday had creamy tagliatelle with spinach, mushrooms and cheese for lunch (leftovers for today). Dinner was battered freezer fish with jacket potato, green beans, broccoli and homemade tartar sauce. Today will be beef and bean burritos with salad/cheese/creme fraiche. Tomorrow will be takeaway - it's going to be 30 degrees here and DC2 is eating at a party.

PatienceOfEngels · 01/09/2024 07:24

Shall I start a new thread for September?

TheRealHousewife · 01/09/2024 09:34

Hello and welcome back @Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain It’s sounds like you’ve had a rough time of it recently but on the positive side you’ve taken decisive action 👏 I’m sure the Slimming world group will be very welcoming and supportive! Be kind to yourself, you’re doing you’re best ❤️

Ok @PatienceOfEngels and thanks for offering to start new thread. Im okish thank you. Have had some personal stuff going on which I think in the main is now resolved/line drawn. Health wise thyroid is a bit wonky again and the GP has increased my thyroxine so fingers crossed my metabolism will soon get going again 😬

Thanks @TheRealHousewife. I feel very annoyed with myself for letting myself get up to and over 12 stone. It was 12 stone 9llb today so definitely annoyed with myself. It’s pure greed and the medication now doesn’t help.

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain It’s tough when one has chronic illness/disability and taking meds to manage those conditions. It isn’t easy! Every bit of positive action will help you to reach your goal; from drinking more water, being mindful of portions, getting healthy fats, proteins and plenty of fibre in to each nugget of exercise ❤️

Hello, please can I join?

I am struggling right now and could do with some support tbh.

I lost a good amount weight since March this year, however since end of August been slowly slipping into unhealthy eating again, and this last week and today lost the plot completely and eaten so many calories proper binging I feel ashamed of myself

I want to start afresh tomorrow x
