Following on from LOSE IT! July 2024

Schools out and Summer has finally arrived and it’s hot hot hot! And with it holidays, get togethers and family and friends having fun! Perhaps a time for being mindful that anything and everything is OK in moderation; whilst ensuring you get your water in (alternating with alcohol is an idea if a sesh is on the agenda) along with eating protein and healthy fats. It’s not a time for punitive regimes (although I never endorse that) or denying yourself. Enjoy the Summer and all its joys (we’ve waited long enough 😬) It’ll be September soon enough when we will start the Autumn Re-set!

If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am now maintaining around 8st 12lb. I find this weight is sustainable and easy to maintain. If I can do it anyone can 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

Can I join? Could do with some tips plus some accountability!

I’m struggling with weight loss not being consistent. In my head I know a loss is a loss but it’s hard when you’ve tried so much and one week there’s hardly a change.

Does this look normal
wk1 -3lb
wk2 +1lb
wk3 no change
wk4 -4lb
wk5 -0.5lb

any ideas why it’s like this? Hv been cal counting & walking the same.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 17/08/2024 09:28

i can post yesterday’s menu which was:-

Breakfast: white toast with marmite
maltesers (just the snack bag) and finishing off salt and vinegar chip sticks
lunch was cheese and dressing salad plus about 3 Quorn mini eggs
dinner was bean stew meal with rice
i also had apple and cheese plus 2 dugestuve biscuits and 2 rich tea lights.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 17/08/2024 10:09

Current weight is 12 stone 10 which is the heaviest I’ve been.

I think I might do keto or my friend’s version of it as she’s lost almost 2 stone on it - but she did need to do that as was a size 18-20.

OneDayIWillLearn · 17/08/2024 11:16

Going to join! I’ve been on another thread for nearly 3 months but it’s gone a bit quiet and I want a bit more support 😁

I’m doing weight watchers and have lost nearly a stone but in August my aim is to end the month at no more than I started and to work on improving my mindset around all or nothing thinking.

aiming to lose another stone and a half by the end of the year. Slow and steady 🙌

Yes that looks normal. Even in a calorie deficit your body will retain water due to hormones, sodium and carb intake and muscle repair. You can still be losing fat over the week, but the weight of water, digesting food and new muscle will hide it on the scales.

You’re doing great, averaging about a pound a week (over the 5 weeks) is a healthy, sustainable way to lose body fat.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 17/08/2024 13:22

I agree with @Fellsbells and @Cheeseagain when I did do Weightwatchers (which I don’t want to do again) definitely the 1lb or more slow and steady way was the way to go there. I also think you tend to keep off weight if you do it slowly rather than rushing towards a faster and more weightloss target which some people do.

Cheeseagain · 17/08/2024 17:59

Thanks @Fellsbells - that’s good to hear.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 17/08/2024 20:08

Dinner tonight Turkish pilau low on the rice but had 3 small garlic bread pieces.

Such a pain to mean my on medication will make me want to eat more until I stop!

MiaN · 18/08/2024 07:02

I met the dietician and it went well. We set up calories and discussed meal plan of 3 meals 2 snacks, pre-planned and she is going to email me the details of template style meal plan. She mentioned she has some issues with the document system they are using to edit/adjust the plans but with the week approaching and me having to pre plan for work in office days I really hope I get it today! Also, my follow up is next week, and it won’t be ideal if I don’t have full week to test it.
I am happy with the appointment I think I will work well with her and really looking forward getting the details. I have checked her qualifications well and I am content I am getting advice from someone with the right skills & knowledge

LemonDrizzle23 · 18/08/2024 07:26

Lots of new joiners! Hello 👋 welcome to a very supportive thread!

First half of the WOW week has gone reasonably well. Not much time to exercise, but did do a day in town and my calf held up well. Scales seem to be moving slightly downwards instead of upwards which is what I want to see.

Have had a lovely summer hols with DS, but am craving a bit more routine now and a bit of downtime!

MiaN · 18/08/2024 07:37

I am most interested in what will the plan suggest as good high protein snack. I really do not feel like having eggs or meat or snack and there is only so much greek yoghurt i can handle, I don't want to eat protein bars and shakes.

greenleaveseverywhere · 18/08/2024 08:14

Hey everyone.

Hmmm not been a good few weeks for me.

I'm setting myself some goals for this week as I desperately need a shake up.

GOAL 1 - 1600 cals a day
GOAL 2 - 10k steps a day
GOAL 3 - weighted circuit a day of at least 15 mins

I feel massively on the back foot I am going to start this today with a walk right now.

@greenleaveseverywhere i think most people don’t find it easy at this time of year!! One holiday/ trip away/ party/ meal out after another.

Try not to be too harsh with yourself though or set goals which will be hard to stick to (are you really going to be able to do ALL those goals everyday?). I honestly believe it is easiest to lose weight and be healthy when you START with a positive mental attitude towards your self and body and try to be kind to yourself in your thoughts.

my goal this month has been about not letting myself fall into the usual trap of all or nothing thinking - like, oh I’ve had a bad breakfast that’s it now! Or well I’m on holiday so may as well not even track food or exercise! I’m trying to find more middle ways where I have enjoyed holidays and food but also kept tracking (most of the time) and kept exercising and trying to make ‘best available’ rather than perfect food choices.

Good luck getting back on track though, I know the feeling of having got out of control with food and it sucks.

Fellsbells · 18/08/2024 10:18

Good luck for the coming week everyone.

My whoosh has continued and I’m half a pound away from my goal. I will continue to eat in a deficit though as I am still carrying a lot of fat round my middle. I’ve been reading how increasing muscle mass improves your overall health and mobility as you get older. I want to carry this on and make it a long term way of eating and adding weight lifting exercises to my routine. What I have done in the past is returned to bad habits quickly as I have been all or nothing and it was unsustainable in the long term.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 18/08/2024 10:24

Morning everyone.

I agree with @OneDayIWillLearn and @greenleaveseverywhere.

I’m on antidepressants for it seems like ages and I spoke to a community nurse who came to see me who confirmed that yes what I’m on medication wise (but not forever) does make you gain weight or increase appetite.

Last night as a snack I had tub of tzatziki with 2 small packets of marmites and cheese oatcakes. Oh and a huge bag of bbq flavour pop chips.

This morning had 2 cups of tea with skimmed milk, 1 Vogel soya and linseed toast with buttery pro active abd marmite. plus 2 rich tea light biscuits and one lighter calorie digestive.

Maybe I should do a separate post for tips for me ion meds?

Lunarvalleysinmymind · 18/08/2024 12:20

hi everyone! Still not officially ‘starting’ until tomorrow as I have the kids this weekend and we have baked and been out to places where icecream and paninis are the only options. Back on it tomorrow. I’ve bought all my fave salad bits and I’m going to give sugar a rest for a while as I think it triggers my hunger. I did weigh today and it’s bad news 9.12… 3lbs gain in a week?! How can this be? I haven’t been bingeing but I have been drinking and eating sugar so wonder if it’s water weight.

What do you guys do at the gym if you go? I’ve just been doing a standards squats, push ups (assisted) deadlifts and rows for the last few month. The simplicity is key as I know I can keep good form. If anyone has a simple routine they used would love to see :)

all I really want this coming week is to get back to 9 stone 9 lbs. That’s the goal really. Plan is plenty of water, low carb high protein lots of fruit and veggies. Making myself lunch.

next wc 26th September I want to start moving towards a new low 9 at 8 and would love that to be my weight for end of august as I had a big week long work event which I’m very nervous about and there’s nothing like feeling like your clothes nicely to help boost your confidence when you’re supposed to be networking.

sending good vibes to you all for the end of this week and strat of the next!

@Lunarvalleysinmymind probably water weight….I was 3lbs up straight after both my recent holidays but 3/4 days later I was back at exactly the same weight as pre holiday. 3lbs is only equivalent of your body holding onto an extra litre and a half of water after all!

LegoTherapy · 18/08/2024 23:19

One week now to get my arse in gear. I've been eating too many salty things and am bloated. The funeral is a week away and I'm mentally prepping and getting ds through things. Food has been mainly halloumi and beetroot wraps and breadsticks and hummus. I need to drink more water to flush out the salt as well as anything else.

NestledinAutumn · 19/08/2024 01:13

Hi everyone!
I'm new here and looking to join as a way to keep my accountability and learn what everyone else find works well for them.
I'm going to weigh in on Wednesday but haven't weighed myself in a couple of months (likely around 220lbs).
Motivated to kickstart the healthy eating again after 3 out of the last 4 weeks on work trips away (hence jet lag post at this time!) that have had me eating badly.
Short term motivation is my sister's wedding coming up in 2 weeks, and would love to feel a little less bloated for that, and mid term would like to lose a good bit before a holiday over Christmas where it'll be hot and I just want to be more comfortable and less of a big sticky mess!
Long term I have a lot to lose, but health and feeling better in my body is the main priority, also with a view to TTC.

MiaN · 19/08/2024 06:02

Still no sign of my plan ftom the dietician. I will ask to push the follow up appointment week later if I don't hear back today as there won't be enough days between the two appointments to test it properly. I am trying to go by what we discussed 1500 calories, 3 meals two snacks and balanced meals incuding protein carb and fat + vegetables and fruit. I had to prepare food for my office days so really if the plan is dramatically different I will properly start it Thursday but as it will be template based I hope what I am eating is close enough

PatienceOfEngels · 20/08/2024 08:13

Morning all! Welcome to all the newcomers. I love August/September back to school time. Love getting back into a routine and I always find it a great time to set goals and have a new beginning (that's one of the things I love about teaching, always a new start with a new school year!).

I've bought myself a few 'back-to-school' treats - a new watch, wireless over ear headphones and a new school bag. A few bits of clothing as well. Shiny new teacher planner with stickers. Going to grab some new stationery as well this week and make sure kids are stocked up with clothes that fit (no school uniform here...they're both growing like crazy!).

Trying to keep up my daily yoga and have been outside on the mat at 6am the last 2 days. not sure how long that'll last since it was so dim this morning the security light came on when I went outside 😂

Have already done a short walk after drop-off and done a few things on my to-do list. Going to get outside in the garden for a few hours now.

Food-wise things are going okay. DC1 will have shorter days on Tuesdays from now on which means less time to myself but also less chance of me emotional overeating as when I'm alone, that's when I tend to binge. Still need to kick evening snacking on the head (though not eating crisps atm which is at least something!)

@LegoTherapy do go easy on yourself.

Be back tomorrow for WOW!

Plan for today:

-breakfasts - boiled egg, 1xrye toast with butter, coffee
-snack - strawberries and later banana bread
-Lunch? should make a batch of potato and leek soup for the freezer/lunches. If I don't have time I will have an omelette or frittata with veg.
-dinner - sweet and sour chicken with rice

greenleaveseverywhere · 20/08/2024 13:36

Just received a comment that I look as though I've lost weight which has given me a boost! Yay!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 20/08/2024 14:50

hello everyone.

Should I ask my mental health home team for tips as to how to not eat more (definitely side effects from medication).

I had my usual porridge with blueberries and skimmed milk. Then 2 rich tea light. biscuits and 2 dates with peanut butter inside.

lunch was cheese on toast with tomatoes but I had to have McCoys steak crisps and a crunchie bar as a snack.

last night dinner was fishcake with small potato, broccoli and carrots and cheese sauce. Had orange and pineapple chunks. But with medication at night you have to eat something carby I think so the meds work so that was 2 rich tea light biscuits.

PatienceOfEngels · 21/08/2024 06:10

WoW -0.3kg

SW 77kg (oct 23)
CW 73.0kg
GW 68kg

Made a big batch of soup yesterday for freezer lunches.

Plan for today
-pre-breakfast yoga outside
-boiled egg, rye toast, coffee
-fruit
-leek and potato soup with 1 slice wholemeal bread
-dinner? DH is cooking and we have chicken in the fridge.

LemonDrizzle23 · 21/08/2024 06:45

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain if you can get in touch with someone from the team it might be useful? Otherwise, maybe have a look at high volume eating - loads of food for few calories. Bethany Dobson on instagram talks a lot about this.

WOW today. Nearly 1kg off for me, which I have to say doesn't feel particularly deserved 😬 but I'll take it! DS back to school in two weeks. And I have a spa break to look forward to in 4 weeks time.

SW: 97.5
CW: 92
10%: 88

Good luck to everyone weighing.
