Following on from LOSE IT! July 2024

Schools out and Summer has finally arrived and it’s hot hot hot! And with it holidays, get togethers and family and friends having fun! Perhaps a time for being mindful that anything and everything is OK in moderation; whilst ensuring you get your water in (alternating with alcohol is an idea if a sesh is on the agenda) along with eating protein and healthy fats. It’s not a time for punitive regimes (although I never endorse that) or denying yourself. Enjoy the Summer and all its joys (we’ve waited long enough 😬) It’ll be September soon enough when we will start the Autumn Re-set!

If you’re a returner or a new starter feel free to jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have a WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost nearly 4 stones. After having been on the wrong side of 12st I am now maintaining around 8st 12lb. I find this weight is sustainable and easy to maintain. If I can do it anyone can 😬

Are you in?😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Feel free to share your own links, tips & recipes.

Thanks for the thread @TheRealHousewife. I’m in! I’m a rejoiner from earlier in the year.

I have lost 12lbs in the past 2 months and would like another 6 off by the end of August. I am trying to tone up with a daily workout though so if I gain muscle the weight loss doesn’t matter.

I have cut out as much sugar and processed food as possible. Trying to reduce carbs, increase protein and veg. I’m also keeping an eye on calories and eat in a window from about 10am to 6pm.

Vanity is also a massive drive at the moment as I need to look good for an event at the end of August. I will have a much better time if I feel better in my clothes and confident with my body.

TheRealHousewife · 31/07/2024 11:03

@Fellsbells That is fantastic progress to date! Your health will also be thanking you for cutting out sugar and processed foods! 👏👏👏 Good luck for your Goal and I’m sure you’ll look amazing when your event comes around … although I’m sure you do already!

Thank you for the new thread @TheRealHousewife . I hope life is being a little kinder to you currently.

I'm enjoying the warmer weather here (although not at night time!) Have broken out last summer's shorts and they are literally hanging off me 🙌🏻 Haven't lost as much as I wanted to by now, but have clearly made a difference.

Looking forward to a new August start tomorrow!

LegoTherapy · 31/07/2024 17:58

Thanks for the new thread!
Well done @Fellsbells I've also cut out most ultra processed foods (except on this holiday) and it's much better. Eating out is hard as a veggie though. I also need to tone up. I look awful.
Here's to August in all its glory!

LegoTherapy · 31/07/2024 17:59

@LemonDrizzle23 that's a great NSV with the shorts, well done!

Newname2308 · 31/07/2024 18:34

Thanks for the new thread - I lost 8 kg over the course of the last 10 months or so, but crept back up so it’s balancing out at 6. Ideally looking to lose another 8.

Things I will continue:
IF 16:8
No booze Sun-Thurs
I eat vegan, so lots of veg, pulses, tofu etc.
Using Simple app has been great for drinking more water, low pressure food logging, tackling snacking.

Things I need to improve on:
Moving more - I keep meaning to do just 10 mins first thing in the morning, and never ever do it 😩
Tackle the sweet tooth
Sleep hygiene

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 31/07/2024 20:20

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife 1lb down this week for WOW, whoop! The next few weeks will be tricky for me, lots of socialising, but I will try and maintain and hopefully shift another couple of pounds later in the month.

greenleaveseverywhere · 31/07/2024 20:53

So relieved it's a new month.

I'm in the thick of early years parenting and I'm finding it so tough to stay on top of my wellness practises.

I've slipped into habits of barely exercising and not having proper meals but just a snacking instead.

I'm overwhelmed and exhausted and using food as an escapism.

I have just set my alarm for 5:30am tomorrow morning. I'm going to have my morning coffee and work out at 6am.

Determine to rekindle my love of healthy living this month.

rainbow616 · 31/07/2024 23:05

@greenleaveseverywhere well done! Let us know how you get on. It's so difficult with young children, but for me, an organised plan really helps! Good luck for August everyone!

MiaN · 01/08/2024 05:03

Joining in. I lost 8lbs in July and would love same in August but we have a lot on and I will be happy with 5. I was eating around 1800 cal daily in July, and trying to eat 125g of protein and 25g of fibre as well as 2l of water. I did great with walks.

For August I want to add kitchen closed after dinner and more regular strength work

greenleaveseverywhere · 01/08/2024 06:21

First day of the month.

I was planning to get up early and do a workout but my little one had other ideas. But it's okay. I'm still going to have a good day 🤞🏼

Might get her involved in my workout

TheRealHousewife · 01/08/2024 07:50

Happy August!

@LemonDrizzle23 Actually I think things have turned a corner, thank you ❤️ Loving your NSV! A good excuse to buy some new short shorts 😬

@Newname2308 Great loss to date! 👍

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo Great WOW result!

@greenleaveseverywhere Good Morning … it sounds tough! Mums are my super hero’s doing what you’re doing plus bringing up our future generations is no easy task! A bit of floor/garden play with the little one will help work activity in.

Welcome to the thread @MiaN and well done to date on your loss, awesome amount! 👏 Kitchen cleaned and closed after dinner is a great snacking restricter 😬

It’s raining here; it sounds gentle and revitalising 🌧️ Freshness to the air, it’s lovely!

@greenleaveseverywhere the early years are brutal! I am just coming out the other side and it is so much easier. Good luck with your getting healthy plan.

Does anyone have an opinion on eating fewer calories than is recommended on my fitness pal? It’s telling me I should have 1300, but I’m actually eating around 900. I feel less hungry as I have no sugar cravings. I want to keep carbs low and the food I’m eating is nutritious. So is it so bad to be eating lower calories?

PatienceOfEngels · 01/08/2024 09:30

Morning all!

Still away on holiday so no weigh in from me.

2 weeks of awful eating here, so priority for August is to get back to better eating habits: 12 hour window, no junk/minimal UPF, 3 meals, fruit/veg/Greek yoghurt only snacks.

Have had a good month movement wise. In July did 23 days on the yoga mat and hit my minimum step count of 10,000 steps on 29/31 days. Set a new week and month personal record for steps (101,782 and 401,308). Lots of country and coast walks.

Goals for August:
Food:12 hour window, no junk/minimal UPF, 3 meals, fruit/veg/Greek yoghurt only snacks, lots of water, keep up limited caffeine/no booze habits.
Exercise: Keep up daily yoga outside, pre-breakfast walk, 10K steps a day.
Mind: Pick up journalling again (has fallen by the wayside while we're away), keep reading (have read 10+ books since we've been away), stop scrolling in the evening (watch TV/read/puzzle books).

Will weigh in next week but absolutely have to drop some of the weight I've put back on since February. Carrying a lot of weight around my middle.

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife !

GameOfJones · 01/08/2024 09:31

Hello everyone, joining in for another month.

SW: 15st 1lb
CW: 14st

Intentions for this month are to keep up my intermittent fasting. I feel so well doing it and am averaging 16:8, often longer but even when I went on holiday at the start of July I kept to 12 hour fasts at a minimum. I never would have believed I could swap my morning latte for black coffee, it has genuinely shocked me how quickly my tastebuds adapted and now I look forward to a black coffee first thing in the morning and am often choosing to drink it in my eating window too. I'm genuinely amazed 🤣

I also want to continue reducing UPFs.... I've made some good progress here and feel better for it.

I also want to focus on strength training in the gym and see if I can drop a few pounds before my next holiday in two weeks time.

rainbow616 · 02/08/2024 08:51

Happy Friday everyone!

I'm slowly getting there.

SW 13st 5
CW 12st 6
GW 11st 7

I realised a couple of weeks ago how much I've actually lost. I've been really down about not losing much since the start of the year, but when I looked back at my weigh ins on my app, I saw that at my heaviest before I started trying to get pregnant (July 2021), I was 14st 13. So I'm really proud of myself for getting this far and although 3 years seems like a long time, I did go through a lot trying to get pregnant and actually being pregnant, so I'm not going to be hard on myself. I've looked back at pictures of myself from back then and I can honestly say, I'll never go back to looking like that! It scared me to see myself like that.

So onwards and hopefully downwards! Me and my husband are seeing Taylor swift in 2 weeks time and I would love to lose 3/4 lbs by then!

Hope everyone else is doing well xx

TheRealHousewife · 02/08/2024 10:33

Good Morning!

Happy Friday @rainbow616 congrats on your stone lost! 🥳 Enjoy Taylor Swift! TS is a really wholesome performer and I have huge respect for her. I totally get why she has so many Swiftees (if that's the word 😬)

I've not been weighing as regular but I do seem to have found I'm more or less maintaining around 8st 12lb and remain in the healthy bmi bracket. Would love another half stone off but not sweating it for now. I will knuckle down after my September holiday 👍

@Fellsbells I did Fast800 once where my cals were between 800-900 cals a day whilst using MFP. I felt ok on that amount and lots weight but down the line I did lose some hair. It's back now thank heavens. I think in the short term is ok but not long term and we just do t get enough protein or nutrients. Good luck!

@GameOfJones @PatienceOfEngels nice to see you on the new thread 👍

I watched the film Joyride with Olivia Coleman; worth a watch imo. Funny, sad, ironic and sentimental ❤️

On iPhone and it's difficult to scroll back and reply at the same time so apologies if I've missed anything.

Happy August everyone!
There's some amazing losses from some of you-well done!
I'm maintaining mainly. We are back off holiday and I'm full of water retention with a gut that hasn't functioned well for a week so I'm giving myself a day to eat well and get back to normal.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/08/2024 12:21

I think it’s taken me almost 5 years to shed 3 stone @rainbow616 but, beyond a fluctuation here and there I’ve kept it off. Slow and steady wins the race!

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 02/08/2024 16:57

Joining this thread for some accountability! Have started intermittent fasting doing 16:8. Have no idea if I am doing it right but have ordered some scales for the bathroom so I guess we will see!
Hoping to increase energy and general feeling of health and wellness. Have had a tough year in that I have been going through a lot mental health-wise, work has been so busy and demanding and then on top of that I broke my arm so exercise has been at the bottom of the pile.

Positive stuff:

  • Apple Watch on charge to start using again for general overview of tracking exercise, steps and calories burnt.
  • scales ordered to see the damage (am thinking I need to lose about a stone and a half so not a huge amount - definitely do-able!).
  • general glow up is happening (make up daily, hair oil and fake tan after shower etc.). This always makes me feel more motivated to eat healthily and exercise more.
  • 16:8 in full swing and hunger feels more manageable. I have had an extremely busy day so haven’t had chance to eat at all yet. Normally I would be ravenous but I feel vaguely hungry in a background way, not in a ‘omg I need to eat NOW’ way.
negative stuff:
  • still love crisps.
greenleaveseverywhere · 02/08/2024 21:47

Todays been a pretty good day:

Bfast- muesli with skimmed milk

Snack - sugar free protein bar

Lunch- very small chicken salad

Snack - 1 sugar free digestive

Dinner- 2 sausages, sweet pot mash and brocoli

Snack - protein smoothie

MeAgainAndAgain · 02/08/2024 22:24

Oh can I join? I’m honestly turning into a pig. My ‘stop eating’ switch is malfunctioning. I’ll weigh myself tomorrow morning to start, and then every Wednesday with everyone else.

I feel terrible. I huff and puff getting up, or moving around, half of my clothes I can’t wear as they don’t fit me, I just look like a blob in the mirror. I need to lose weight AND exercise otherwise I’m going to be seriously ill in the future.

So count me in please.

Fellsbells · 02/08/2024 22:25

@Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot sounds like a great plan. I especially agree with the fake tan! It always knocks a few pounds off in the mirror.

@TheRealHousewife thank you for the info. Thank goodness your hair grew back. I ate 970 calories today and feel better for it. I think 800 is too low for me.

What has amazed me is that last week I found a bowl of greek kefir yoghurt, chia seeds and blueberries so sour and had to force it down. A week later, after having no processed sugar, the same bowl tasted amazing and I loved it. Our bodies are amazing at adapting.

I can see a difference in my body now I’ve lost a stone which is a huge reward. My clothes are fitting better and I feel more confident. Still got a lot of fat on my middle which I want to shift.

Today I ate,
B- salmon, rice, salad.
Greek yoghurt with chia seeds and blueberries.

L- same as breakfast, but also a bowl of cabbage and leek soup.

D- BBQ meat and salad.

Happiestwhen · 03/08/2024 04:02

Count me in too please! I need motivation. I gave birth this time last year and I'm finding it hard to shift the weight. I need to lose a stone. The problem is that I'm starving. I've never had an appetite like this before. Any tips on how to fill this tummy well without resorting to bread all the time is very welcome! Also need to exercise more but it's just so hard to get motivated 😫 I got one of the waist twisters which is good but I need to get out walking more.
