10st plus to lose - part 3

A big welcome to anyone who wants to join us on bigger weight loss journeys.

We are all following our own methods, whatever works for each of us and no judgment for anyone who falls off the wagon for a bit either. We've all been there and know we're on a marathon and not a sprint.

Part three, let's go!

I had two days off plan this week. I felt like drinking gin on Saturday night so I did, and then yesterday I forgot to track calories but don't think I made any really bad choices. Today I went to the gym and it was so much better than last time - the instructor had some suggestions of how to modify the moves I couldn't do so I was able to do most of it.

@wholeeverything It is weird how sometimes weightloss just "clicks" and everything falls into place, then other times you want it so much but can't get started! I find it helps to take one day at a time rather than focusing on the whole journey. And planning definitely helps!

@AITAH10 congrats on your loss and award! That's brilliant!

StHilarion · 15/03/2025 17:37

Today marks up 8 weeks since I started and have lost 2 stone and 2 pounds. Very very pleased. At present I feel motivated and on track but from previous experience know how precarious that is and how easily I can fall from track. But long may this continue as still a very long road to travel. Every week I have been listing my meals for the next 7 days and have been fairly strict at keeping to plan. Good luck and healthy eating to all on the forum

wholeeverything · 16/03/2025 10:28

@StHilarion well done that's fantastic! Yes, it is so precarious. What a waste it is to put it all back on, as I have so many times in the past. I tell myself that this time, I am committing to living this way forever. This is just the new normal, every single day.

On Wednesday I hit a full stone off since I started five weeks ago. I was beyond thrilled. Unfortunately since then I've gone headlong into emotional eating territory, a few hard days personally combined with some bad news at work and I have been binging like nobodys business.

I know I can still avoid undoing all the good work if I stop now. Just need to get my mind on track.

StHilarion · 16/03/2025 16:31

@wholeeverything so sorry that you are having a rough time and you seem like me that it is your head and not your appetite that dictates what you eat. I hope this will be a better week and if it isn’t then I hope you find the strength to control your calorie intake.

Trilby12 · 16/03/2025 19:40

Does anyone have advice for losing weight with an under active thyroid please? I was 10st 2lb 3 years ago, I’m now 22st 😔

Readinstead · 17/03/2025 10:37

Hello, I was on thread 2 back in June 2023 and I would like to rejoin please. I recognise some names and will read the entirety of this thread in next day or so to catch up with you all.
Back in 2023 my start weight was 108.3kg, today it is 108.6kg/17st 1.65lbs. Like last time I am weighing in kg, initially, because my 1st target is to get below 100kg.
I am a serial diet failer and have decided this time to try 16:8 with my eating window between 12.00/12.30 - 20.00/20.30. I am not going to calorie count yet but aim to stick to my eating window and allow only one snack (which will be crisps, it's always crisps!). I am a daily weigher but my official weigh in day will be Thursdays.

StHilarion · 17/03/2025 15:40

@Readinstead I am very new to the thread only joined in January. Like you I weigh in kilos because my aim is to lose a kilo a week. But I do always convert to stones and pounds in my head. Welcome and good losses

AITAH10 · 17/03/2025 19:44

So I've been completely bad for the Last 2 weeks, worse than i was at Christnas... +9.5 for the last 2 weeks back at it today though

I really don't know what to suggest.
Have you searched for any other threads specifically for this? If not maybe start one

Trilby12 · 17/03/2025 21:14

Thank you for your suggestion, I shall do that ☺️

Readinstead · 20/03/2025 11:28

Thanks for the welcome StHilarion.
I have decided that as it's only been 3 days since I started, I will count next Thursday as my proper week one weigh in.
Yesterday I was 1.1kg down but put 0.2 back on today, so 2lbs down (as near as dammit).
Would anyone like to share what their motivation for starting losing weight, that last little thing that pushed you from thinking about it to actually doing it? For me it was my t-shirt being tight over my belly. I have t-shirts that I wear under jumpers/sweatshirts and my better ones which I wear on their own. It was one of the latter type that had been fine last year but was tight and showed every bulge and I decided that I didn't want to go up yet another size.

peonym · 20/03/2025 18:54

Welcome back @Readinstead! I remember your name. I also joined around then, lost 2 stone through essentially calorie tracking (from 18 stone 10 to 16 stone 10) then got pregnant and thanks to hyperemsis I managed to lose another half a stone during pregnancy. Came out the other side and after breastfeeding for a few months I tried weight loss injections for around 4-5 months. Am now off them as going to try to TTC number 3 this summer - so it’s onwards and downwards I hope. My motivation was actually a health MOT my husband and I did - he’s much fitter than I am (or at least he was) and we both had areas to work on. Seeing my weight / BMI / heart risk etc in black and white really was the kick up the bum I needed. Well done on your initial loss - you’ve done the hard part!! Are you able to incorporate any exercise this time around? I’ve found myself a new hobby in the peloton and light jogging and feel like a new woman.

Hope everyone else is keeping well. We’ve had some lovely spring weather and it’s been my birthday this week so all in all a lovely week.

DuckWithOneWing · 21/03/2025 10:25

@Trilby12 welcome to the thread! My main piece of advice is to keep taking your medication, and get into a routine so that you never miss a dose.

@StHilarion I weigh in kg, but then occasionally convert to stones. That way you get twice as many milestones! You get to celebrate losing 5kg, but you also get to celebrate losing 1 stone!

@Readinstead my motivation for losing was a photo of me. It went all over the news - you've almost certainly seen it, even though you won't know it's me - and I really hated how I looked. I was also struggling to get around and do things. But here I am now, several years later and many stone lighter. I look amazing in photos now!

Happy birthday @peonym! You're doing so well. Well done on your 5 stone loss!

peonym · 21/03/2025 13:43

Thank you so much @DuckWithOneWing!! hope you’re keeping well!!

wholeeverything · 22/03/2025 08:53

Welcome @Trilby12 I don't have much advice except that regardless of the issues what will help is lower calories in, so emphasising eating whole vegetables and protein for fibre and to keep you full. And if weight loss is slower because of a health condition to just welcome the loss anyway.

@peonym I'm also TTC though I'm 40+ so I try not to overthink it. Congrats and best of luck with no.2. Imagine how great being a fit and healthy mum will be!

@AITAH10 welcome back! I have been off plan for ten days now so I'm just proud I came back here to stay accountable and engaged.

I weighed in this morning and I'm +6lbs compared with ten days ago. I let personal issues and emotional eating take over, had a good few nights on the couch with the share bags open, pastries and coffees for breakfast in the car, generally old habits snuck back in.

I'm day one of my period and also likely retaining water from over eating crisps etc. so I imagine within a few days a bit of that will fall off and I should so my goal is to be back around my last lowest weight (301) by next week. And try and put some better mechanisms in place for coping with emotional eating 🙄. Any advice welcome!

Sunshineandrainbow · 22/03/2025 10:38

@wholeeverything I have no advice for emotional eating. I am there at the moment with lots going on at work surrounding job and peri menopause just making me angry and impatient. I actually don't recognise myself.

What I am trying to do it have things like cream crackers and a scrapping of soft cheese with cucumber etc I can have quite a few of those on a plate for the same calories as a bag of crisps but I still get the crunch and it feels like more.

I am going to make some sugar free jelly today to have with fruit and yoghurt.

I have stayed the same this week but so close to going over the 15 stone mark and i just feel if that happens I will spiral. It's all in my head.

I now have some time off work and this scares me as I like the routine. I generally use my leave for single days off as I don't go on holiday so this feels a bit strange! It will also involve meeting friends for lunch plus some nice things too like hair cut and facial ❣️

Wishing those trying to conceive all the very best wishes 💞

Start weight 18.10
Current weight 14.13 (argghhh)

Sunshineandrainbow · 22/03/2025 10:42

@DuckWithOneWing sorry to hear about the photo you had posted in the news, I hope you consented to it or were at least aware before it went out. Although maybe not if you didn't like it. Glad to hear you like photos of yourself now.

I don't have many photos of adult me and joke with my kids that the only photos I will have at my funeral are my baby photos 😀

wholeeverything · 24/03/2025 22:10

As of this morning I was back down to 302. So almost all the weight gain from a bad two weeks is gone. And then I can move forwards again.

Goes to show, consistency is the name of the game.

AITAH10 · 24/03/2025 22:12

After putting 9.5lbs on over the last 2 weeks this week i lost 10!

Readinstead · 27/03/2025 10:11

Peonym - 5 stones in less than 2 years, with a baby in the middle as well! You are amazing.
DuckWithOneWing - thank you for sharing and I'm glad you look amazing now! I think I read in the thread that you are a healthy weight now, so huge congratulations!
Sunshineandrainbow - there are very few photos of me and in most of those I am standing behind someone else or have one of my grandchildren on my lap (the oldest would work best, as he is nearly as tall as me, but is too old and cool for sitting on laps 😀)
wholeeverything and AITAH10 - well done, both for the weigh loss and for getting back on track.

Weighed this morning:
SW (17.3.25): - 108.6kg
CW : 105.9kg
Loss: 2.7kg

Thanks! Congrats on your weight loss as well!

Got a treadmill and ive not been going too crazy for several reasons but I'm adding 3000 extra steps a day to begin with done in multiple attempts

DuckWithOneWing · 27/03/2025 13:01

@Sunshineandrainbow my mum died 25 years ago, and recently I realised we have more photos of a horse we met on a holiday once when I was 10 than I do of my own mother (we have 10 photos of my mum, and 14 of the horse). I'm sure it was a very nice horse, but I really wish I had more photos of my mum to remember her by. Go and be in the photos.

AITAH10 · 01/04/2025 15:48

-6.5lb this morning and into the next stone down. Also got slimmer of te. Month which is abit astounding considering I put 9.5lbs on over two weeks in the middle of the month

Sunshineandrainbow · 02/04/2025 07:25

Well done everyone on a losing streak. I am back in the routine of work which definitely helps me.
Going to attempt stir-fry today, I am so bad at it and it always ends terribly but I like the idea of it so will keepy trying 🙂

peonym · 02/04/2025 10:19

@AITAH103000 extra steps a day is fabulous.

@DuckWithOneWingsimilar story here. My husband knows how much I wish I had more photos of mum so thankfully he is very good at insisting I get into photos with the kids.

@Sunshineandrainbowlove a stir fry what are you popping in?

just recovered from a stomach bug. It was grim but lost 4lbs this week as a result so I guess silver linings and all of that 😂

hope everyone doing well. The brighter weather is really helping my mood!
