@wevegotthepower That's the bit that worries me, I'm lucky that Wegovy is working very well for me, I have no desire to overeat and the weight is coming off quickly but I think this is the easy part, it's post Wegovy when the hard work starts.

I can't afford to do it long term though, I've never spent £169 a month on myself and although I'm saving a fair whack on food it's still expensive.

Initially I decided to give myself 6 months on it but might do 8 depending on what I weigh and then I'll be coming off it cold turkey.

All I can do is give it my best shot, I've yoyo dieted for over 25 years but only ever got to goal once when I was 21, since then I've gained and lost the same 3 stone so many times but never got into the healthy weight bracket.
It's been 7 years since I was a comfy size 14 and have ended up needing to lose 5 stone and I really feel this is my last attempt.
I've been so bloody miserable living with so much excess weight, it's dominated every single aspect of my life and health and I just can't throw it away and go back to where I was.

I'm planning to weigh weekly and tackle any weight gain as it happens and not let it build up, I've always eaten healthily but gained weight by all the mindless snacking in between which I've completely stopped and I'm hoping that after 8 months the habit will be broken.

Lastly I hope that the people on this thread continue on a "Life after Wegovy" thread where we can carry on supporting each other.

What are your plans?

Andrasa · 12/02/2024 18:55

I’ve been off wegovy for three weeks now and holy I am so hungry. My stomach is rumbling all the time and even after I eat I’m hungry enough to eat again a few hours after (vs on wegovy when I ate lunch and dinner and wasn’t hungry otherwise, just had a snack or two for taste vs hunger).

I do feel I’ve learnt good habits though as I’m stopping eating when I’m satisfied vs so full i feel sick, and im not snacking too much. Just having to wrestle with the hunger and the cravings monster being back in my head.

@Lou4564 the food noise banishment started coming back for me sometime in my 1mg doses and now I do also get hungry but feel full very quickly when I eat. I think it is as you get used to the medication some of the effects decrease. But then it's good to have the feelings because at some point we need to stop taking wegovy and maintain the weight loss on our own.

exactly how I feel! Definitely thinking about food a bit more but still getting full pretty quickly!

Love the idea of a ‘life after’ thread…

im similar in that I’ve lost and regained the same 3 stone over the past 10 years… this is working so well for me I’m really scared about how I will keep it up! Before wevovy I was absolutely obsessed with food, what it was, when I was going to eat it, how I could lose a stone in a day, how many chocolate biscuits can I eat… it ruled my life and has really damaged my self esteem….

i really hope that we all manage to meet our goals and give each other some love and support in the long term to help keep us where we want to be ☺️

Lovesthebeach · 12/02/2024 19:51

Hi everyone, quick update from me I’m on week 2 of 1.0 (2 previous weeks of 0.75) and have just broken through the two stone lost barrier…. I can’t believe my eyes when I weighed myself.. I haven’t been this weight for 7 years…..

I started Wevovy at the end of October so I’ve had a pretty good rate of loss. Some weeks 1-2ibs, other weeks 3/4ibs ish.

I would never ever ever have stuck to a diet this long and lost this weight with wegovy… it is life changing (I just wish it was cheaper as I really can’t afford it long term) 🙁

However, I think the last few weeks my diet hasn’t been great. I seem to just want carbs carbs and more carbs…. Bread in particular… I end up eating a carby lunch and not much dinner as I’m then not hungry. Obviously this is working from a calorie deficit/weightloss perspective but I feel like I’m eating less healthily in some ways compared to before I started…

Anyway, sorry this is a very long rambling post. Just putting my thoughts out there in case anyone is feeling similar?

Time to order my next pen, going to do another four weeks at 1.0 I think..

Hope everybody has had a good day. This thread is brilliant and such a good support. Thank you!

I am craving carbs too. Jacket potatoes are my favourite as they don't hurt my stomach like other foods and seem to get digested easier.

Lovesthebeach · 12/02/2024 19:57

Also for the first time (except when I had a sick bug) I have those disgusting sulphur burps… how do I get rid of them… 🤮🤮🤮

EatingTillIDie · 12/02/2024 20:08

Helene2019 · 12/02/2024 16:26

@EatingTillIDie don't feel deflated it's still an average loss of 1lb a week for the month shown - which is no small thing. My weight loss is similar and I know if I wasn't on wegovy I would be stationary in weight or increasing in weight regardless of what diet I was following.

You are right, I know you are. I can't unsee that low point on Jan 18th that I'm still at now. But clearly that low point hadn't settled. I went to the boots weight loss webinar today and they said plateaus are to be expected and can last months as your body needs to normalise to a weight level after some loss. It is so hard and this is why I have given up every diet in the past 20 years. I need to trust it this time. Had a very good day today x

Ok I got my answer… just threw up, randomly all of a sudden just came over all hot and felt sick… seems to have helped though 🙈

PanettoneSoprano · 12/02/2024 20:39

A 0.5 or 1lb loss in a week feels incredibly disappointing, especially after the dopamine hits of the 2/3/4lb losses in the first few weeks. But that is definitely a downward line @EatingTillIDie.

Today was jab day for me, and it's usually a day I think I'm so hungry and eat eat eat, but I spent the entire day in hospital with my daughter and didn't think about food or feel hungry at all. It's mind over matter for me sometimes and I need to retrain my brain.

Lovesthebeach · 12/02/2024 21:23

@PanettoneSoprano I hope your daughter is ok and that you’re both home now x

wevegotthepower · 12/02/2024 21:45

@Gingerlygreen

I too am looking at a six month run at it with the hope of dropping two stone. Not a clue what happens after that as I too have gained and lost the same two to three stones a million times over.

It may be that wegovy becomes a once a year thing? I don't know. Not sure there is much around the 'what after' narrative.

Listen to me talking like I've already lost my weight Blush

Gingerlygreen · 12/02/2024 22:13

@wevegotthepower I don't think the manufacturers think there should be an 'after Wegovy' period, they say you stay on a maintenance dose.
Even if I could get it in on the NHS I'm not sure I'd want to be on it forever, it seems such early days and I do worry that in a few years there will be some finding of long term damage that Wegovy users have.

@Lovesthebeach Well done on losing 2 stone, that's a great loss.
Not so good on being sick though.
I read somewhere that the sulphur burps are because Wegovy slows down the passage of food through the digestive system so it's the partly broken down food hanging around which isn't a nice thought at all!
Hope you're better tomorrow.

Tindrum · 12/02/2024 22:33

@EatingTillIDie i really relate. My loss has been s l o w. Worked out as 1lb a week and thought I know I’d have come off the rails on any other diet, that doesn’t always help when you are having a blue moment. I’ve been listening to 2 doctors on YouTube who are proponents of fasting both for health and weight loss - Mindy Pelz and Jason Fung. Another excellent person to listen to is Gin Stephens. They recommend a 36hr for getting over a weight loss plateau, so I thought sod it, I’ll give a go. Lo and behold I’ve lost 3lbs this week which has really given me a boost. It also seemed to get rid of the persistent sinus pain I’ve been suffering from and surprisingly cleared my constipation issue. You a need to build up to a longer fast like that, doing a few 16, 20 and then 24hr fasts first but it’s worked for me so thought I’d mention it. Realise it’s not for everyone of course.

MakeItNice · 13/02/2024 04:03

@Tindrum I really like Mindy Pelz, I shared her interview on diary of a CEO with my fiancé and he’s now increased his daily fast, only eating once a day.

I can’t do longer than that and I don’t want to either, I love my breakfast before work etc but I’ll keep it in mind for plateaus or constipation issues, thank you,

MakeItNice · 13/02/2024 04:16

Update from me ladies. I had a great start on wegovy and it’s been bleugh from week 2 til now. Im definitely eating less in general but cravings returned and I can still wolf large portions.

Jan 21st -5.6 lbs
Jan 28th +0.8 lbs
Feb 4th -1.7 lbs
Feb 11th +0.1 lbs

Started 0.5mg this week. Feel nauseous and going to try to eat less and exercise. I’ve got a lot of weight to lose with a goal date of Sept (Wedding in Oct!) and can’t afford this so that’s why I feel disappointed by my appetite and lack of losses each week.

Onwards and downwards eh! 💛

Tindrum · 13/02/2024 07:00

@MakeItNice no problem and very exciting about your wedding. I’ve been on Wegovy since October and I’d say only over the last month have I stopped having waves of unpleasant symptoms. I actually feel fine now so keep the faith. It takes a while to build in your body and also a while for it to get used to it but it does happen. Despite my slow loss I have got through numerous birthdays, Christmas, new year etc and have still lost over 2 stone. You’ll get there by October!

ShrinkingTeacher · 13/02/2024 08:11

I had horrific side effects on 0.5mg. Vomitting, diarrhea. I thought it was norovirus. But then I took another shot of 0.5mg as the vomiting had stopped and it happened again. So much so that I was so close to stopping. I was due to go up to 1mg but there's no way I could do that so I've stayed on 0.5mg for another month. The diarrhea has stopped, I'm still hungry and nauseated though but not throwing up.

There's no way I could do a jump to 1mg. I think I might ask for it and then count clicks and just go up from 0.5 to 0.6 etc. I'm terrified of that happening again as I honestly had the worst 2 weeks of not being able to eat anything at all which just isn't the way I want to lose weight. It's also awful as I have 2 kids to look after!

anoldcharter · 13/02/2024 08:29

That sounds awful @ShrinkingTeacher I'm about to take week 3 0.5mg today and was thinking I might get 1mg pen but do a couple of 0.75 jabs to see how I get on as I've been feeling more sick on higher dose? Difficult to know what to do as others have reported symptoms settling the higher the dose?

Weigh in today (I weigh every 2 weeks) and I've lost 5lbs so 13lbs in total since I started on 3rd January, very happy with that....

Hope everyone has a good day 😊

Lovesthebeach · 13/02/2024 08:42

Morning… well that was a fun night… not 🤮 think I must have overeaten the last few days and this was the revenge! 🙈

@anoldcharter that’s what I did, a couple of weeks at 0.75 then moved up to 1.0. well done on your loss!

@ShrinkingTeacher that sounds awful, I think it’s a good plan to increase slowly if you’re having big side effects… it’s horrible when you feel that bad.

@Tindrum woohoo To the 2 stone weightloss 🥳 also interesting to read about the fasting, I think I inadvertently do some fasts sometimes. As I don’t eat breakfast and some days I don’t bother with dinner… maybe that’s helping the loss 🤔

@MakeItNice well done on the loss so far. Stick with it… once I moved to 0.5 that’s when the weight consistently started coming off! Exciting times planning for your wedding!

wevegotthepower · 13/02/2024 09:01

@Gingerlygreen

No way I'm staying on this long term. Expensive, untested long term, plus I feel slightly nauseous at times and get headaches. I can tolerate all that short term but not beyond six months

ObsidianTree · 13/02/2024 11:21

I have only just started and yet to see the losses, but if it does work for me and I do lose weight on it, then I will probably commit to taking it for a longer period. I might do things like stop for a few months at Xmas and summer and then go back on it for the rest of the year starting fresh each time.(If I see the weight goes back easily etc.) But if this is drug helps stop my cravings and stops me gaining weight, then I like the idea of it as a long term thing. I also have an underactive thyroid and have read that Wegovy can actually help with that. So if I find this the case then more reason for me to stay on it.

Re the diet, I am on day 4 so far. Haven't been feeling ill so far but I think I'm starting to notice the effects. I am not craving anything particularly and I noticed at breakfast I wasn't hungry until about 10.30am and even then was just eating as I felt I should have something. Decided on toast as I haven't thought about diet yet or done a shop to get healthy foods. I noticed that I was getting full after 1 slice. Usually I could polish off 3+ slices and still feel hungry. So must be working!

Are you managing to keep the weight off @Andrasa since stopping?

Tindrum · 13/02/2024 12:58

Hmm just watched Dr Dan obesity expert’s video on regaining weight after stopping Wegovy on YouTube. Very slim odds that we’ll keep it off, pretty gutting actually. I’d like to think I’d be in the 10-16% that manage it but I’ve got to be realistic. I don’t know what to think now tbh. Left me thinking what is the point of doing this at all!

Gingerlygreen · 13/02/2024 13:34

@Tindrum Don't let it get into your head or you'll be planning to fail before you've even tried.

I haven't watched his videos but I also haven't read anywhere that you're more likely to regain weight after Wegovy than any other weight loss plan.

I've done Cambridge successfully in the past and hear so many people say that you put it all back on as soon as you stop which is untrue.
No matter how you lose the weight if you go back to overeating then you'll regain it whether you've lost it on Wegovy in 6 months or slimming world in 12 months.
I've lost and gained weight so many times but it's because I've gone back to eating way more calories than I need.

I'm at a stage now where I need to accept that I can be obese and very miserable or a healthy weight and a bit miserable because I have to work at staying that way.
