January 2024! Fresh start & develop new habits. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Wow @afaloren @WeirdPookah you both win! Amazing losses 💪🎉

HighlandCowRose · 19/01/2024 11:21

afaloren wow 100lb, that's AMAZING

wiltingflower · 19/01/2024 13:28

Congratulations @afaloren @WeirdPookah @rainbow616!

I didn't manage to post for WoW but here for WOF, I'm now 0.4kg off my target goal. I've been really ill since Wednesday and had to go home by 11am yesterday. Today I'm off work. I've been bed bound and struggling. I'm worried that any weight loss while ill is mainly muscle rather than both muscle and fat which normal weight loss is. I am still fairly skinny fat but I'm glad that I've lowered my BMI from overweight to normal weight. I'm still trying to improve my fitness levels but it'll have to be paused while I recover from being ill. It being so cold recently also hasn't helped earlier this week when I wasn't so poorly!

TheRealHousewife · 19/01/2024 15:04

Hi Everyone

Apologies for being MIA. Ive been quite poorly with a virus as well as my back; I’m totally ready for the knackers yard (excuse my French)😬 Seriously I’m shattered and feel totally wiped out. I’m pacing myself, trying to get on top of housework, washing/ironing etc. I even discussed with my other half employing a cleaner for a time but I got vetoed.

@afaloren @WeirdPookah You have both done marvellously well. If I could give Certificates out I would! Congratulations to you both on your significant losses; your health and well being will be so very much improved! See below 👇👌

Menu
Meal 1 - Omelette. Vegetable and bean soup.
Meal 2 - Cod fillet, peas, carrots and parsley sauce.
Tea, black coffee and water.

Sorry to hear you're still wiped out @TheRealHousewife don't over-exert yourself as it'll just slow your recovery (and stealth-hire the cleaner for a couple of weeks!) ❤️

TheRealHousewife · 19/01/2024 17:43

Thank you @ImALittlePea I like your idea of a stealth hire and I’d certainly consider it if my other half worked in the office 😬🤪

@TheRealHousewife Sorry to hear you have been so poorly, I hope that you make a full recovery very soon

@HighlandCowRose thank you for your message after my last post ❤️ things are a bit better today, we've had a particularly challenging few days with my eldest dd and a deterioration in her MH. We saw a psychiatrist who made a few good recommendations and her school are being supportive too. I hope all is good with you.

Well done everyone on all the great losses, some really impressive ones. 👏

My meals today are:
B Porridge with berries
L Lentil bolognese
D Omelette 'pizza'
Snacks: protein yoghurt, small amount of pistachios, Highlights

I'll be doing my treadmill later after skipping it for a couple of days. I've gotten into watching 'Fool Me Once' after the recommendations on here a few days ago, I'm enjoying it! 🙂

Have a great weekend everyone

LumionaMoonsplash · 19/01/2024 19:30

Well done on the losses and maintainers.

Had some incredible step counts for the last few days. 17k yesterday. I have been a couch potato for decades so this is a huge deal for me.

In the WL clinic tomorrow for the official 4 week weigh in, its not going to great news, only a couple lbs loss in 4 weeks but it has been Xmas, NY and my birthday so not bad.

I'm on it, and knuckling down for the next weigh in. Smashed the gym tonight and had Salmon salad afterwards.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 19/01/2024 19:34

Sorry you've not been well @TheRealHousewife I hope the other half is stepping up with chores while you recover after vetoing a cleaner!

I have been off the boil the last few days - not exercise, chippy tea last night, and a brownie at lunch! In my defence I'm on my period for the first time in ages, and it's particularly miserable. But, I have managed to stay writhing my calories and have resisted full on sabotage. No wine tonight, as I have tomorrow designated as a treat day as going out for a family birthday. I've bought an alcohol free aperitif to try. Will report back once I have tried it!

buzzofthebumblebee · 19/01/2024 19:36

Struggling with motivation this week (had some bad news about my DF's health) plus work too busy to get any sort of steps in. So this week / weekend will be about doing my best to keep on track.

But a huge well done for some amazing losses, & for sticking with it when there aren't losses ...

afaloren · 19/01/2024 20:33

Thanks everyone Smile Well done @WeirdPookah and everyone else with a loss!

B - Banana and protein yoghurt
L - At my mum’s for lunch. We had chicken in white wine sauce and mixed vegetables.
D - Bunless cheeseburger with salad, and then I tried an Arla chocolate protein pudding which was quite nice!

No snack today, I didn’t have time.

Exercise: 2 x dog walks, ‘yoga’ (was meditation today) and I wanted to do a kettlebell workout at the gym but the lightest they had was 8kg and I’m feeble. I did a dumbbell workout instead and DH has kindly offered to buy me a smaller kettlebell of my own!

Spudlover · 19/01/2024 21:04

Some amazing losses on this thread, well done everyone! Really inspiring.

@HighlandCowRose I made the Dahl you posted upthread, delicious, thanks for posting it!

I will weigh in Friday morning next week. I’m aiming to maintain, I have 4 days away with work which is always tricky.

No exercise today, in fact barely 3000 steps. 😳

B: Eggs, pea shoots and tomato
L: Butternut squash, lentil and chicken soup
D: Cauliflower pizza base with ham, olives, tomato, feta.

Hope everyone has some nice plans for the weekend. I have a hot date with a sledgehammer and some glued in built in wardrobes!

HighlandCowRose · 19/01/2024 22:03

Spudlover fab, glad you liked it.
I'm making the parsnip soup posted on the thread (sorry, I can't remember who by 😳)

B seeded toast with hummus
L seeded toast x2 with pakora & poached egg
D veggie burger with sweet potato & beansprouts with chilli

Beansprouts are a slightly odd accompaniment but I didn't fancy a salad and the beansprouts needed using.

ThreeRingCircus · 20/01/2024 08:20

Haha @HighlandCowRose the parsnip soup recipe was me, hope you like it!

I went off track yesterday. My absolute rookie error was that I forgot my packed lunch to take to work so ended up having to go to the nearest sandwich shop. I really must be better organised to make sure I have my lunch with me and don't consider other options 😂.

I'm not sure what will be happening for dinner. We're visiting family and they're cooking so I have no idea what will be on the menu. For breakfast I've had coffee and one of the "healthy" pancakes I make for DDs (i.e no added sugar). Lunch will be a flatbread with scrambled eggs and avocado.

The pancakes are really easy. I make a batch of them whenever we have bananas that need using up. Mainly for breakfasts for DDs but I sometimes have them too so will share in case it's of use to anyone.

One banana, one egg, two tablespoons of flour of your choice, lots of cinnamon. You can scale it up depending on how many bananas you have.

Mash the bananas and mix with eggs, flour and cinnamon then spoon into a pan with a spray of oil and fry each side. They cook really quickly and they keep for up to five days in the fridge. I'm sure you could freeze them too but DDs always eat them before that step is needed!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/01/2024 11:14

I've got a treat day today - family member's big birthday lunch. Pre-ordered - starter will be calorific, but I've opted for salmon as a slightly healthier choice and declined pudding because I know there will be cake. I will drink some fizz, but have had no booze since Sunday. I know it will be a calorific day over all, but if I wasn't focussed, I probably would have had wine and crisps last night, and ordered a pudding today, so I take that as a win!

LumionaMoonsplash · 20/01/2024 12:51

WL clinic 12 week review and weigh in today, all went well and smashed my goal by 70%. 😀🏅. Very happy with that. This morning's weigh in showed another couple of lbs down so I've now officially lost 1.5 stone since end of October. The motivation 💪 is back, big style.

I've read something about the stages of the menstrual cycle and differing levels of energy and recommended exercises, food and other task based on where you are. OMG it explains so much and why I sometimes have energy or not.

PatienceOfEngels · 20/01/2024 12:54

B-boiled egg, rye toast and butter, coffee
L- leftover rice and casserole (minus the sausage!)
D - out for pancakes (will choose whatever I want but no starters/desserts and only one non-alcoholic drink).

Missed YWA yesterday so need to catch up this weekend to get back on track.

HighlandCowRose · 20/01/2024 20:09

I don't know where the day has gone, don't feel like I've got hardly anything done.

L beans on toast & fake smoked salmon toast with poached eggs
D stir-fry with noodles and chilli tofu
S glass of wine, packet of crisps
E body project work out

Surprised myself and actually quite enjoyed today exercise

afaloren · 20/01/2024 21:46

B - Protein yoghurt, dried apricots
L - Skipped
S - Babybel lights, pepperami.
D - You’ll laugh because I’m supposed to be on a diet but DH took me out for an eight course tasting menu! It was absolutely incredible and if I don’t lose any weight this week I won’t mind. Best meal I’ve ever had I think.
E - Yoga, just one dog walk but it was a LONG one with loads of hills.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 21/01/2024 08:03

I've estimated that I consumed around 2500 calories yesterday after attending the big family birthday celebration. That included two-courses for lunch (no pudding), birthday cake, a few glasses of fizz (maybe one or two more than I'd have like due to my glass being topped up when I wasn't looking) and I had two very small glasses of wine in the evening.

I find it interesting that if I wasn't focussed on losing weight and keeping alcohol at a moderate level, I probably would have consumed way more calories and units of alcohol. I probably would have had a pudding, would definitely had a little bit more wine in the evening, and would likely have had some crisps or snacks!

Whenever I've been calorie counting previously, I just wouldn't have bothered counting on days like this, writing it off as a bit of a treat, but actually sabotaging my efforts throughout the week. I'm still having treat days, life it too short not to enjoy a birthday or a party, but making myself count calories on those days is so far making the difference between indulging and really-over indulging!

Sorry, but if a long ramble! Hope ever is having a good weekend.

Not sure what's on the menu today, roast chicken I think, but I definitely plan to exercise after being very poor on the front over the last week.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 21/01/2024 08:22

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo I found it eye opening the first time I tried to actually count the calories of what I'd eating on a treat day. Mostly because I didn't actually feel particularly full on that day, but everything I'd eaten was utter crap and empty calories. So if I hadn't been looking at the numbers, my belly would have told me I hadn't had that much and that yes I had gone off plan, but not egregiously so. The numbers however told me I'd easily had double my calorie allowance on drink I didn't enjoy that much, an overly sickly piece of cake with fondant icing and some beige bland party food.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 21/01/2024 10:01

It really is eye opening @FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain Particularly the potential sheer volume of empty calories. I didn't want deny myself completely, but it did make think about choices - pudding or birthday cake? That sort of thing.

Gemstonebeach · 21/01/2024 10:39

Hi all, can I please join you? Definitely need the weekly weigh ins to stay accountable! I have been doing okay at my diet but have slipped up a few times, nibbling at kids leftovers or a couple of chips out of a bowl. I am also trying to be alcohol free currently. Getting down to 69kgs means I should fit some of my old clothes!

SW- 81.5kg
CW - 79.7kg
GW - 69kg

Undisclosedlocation · 21/01/2024 12:24

Hi everyone. I’ve been scrolling rather than posting but still plodding along.
If anything, I’ve put about half a pound overall on which isn’t surprising as I’ve been rather lax this week and initially I was disappointed but yesterday was a friends birthday and I was able to wear my favourite jeans which didn’t fit at the start of January! I’ve been very good at going to the gym and have now been doing weights regularly for six weeks - first time I’ve ever stuck to it for any length of time.
i guess that toning and maybe a tiny bit of muscle have made a difference when though the scales say otherwise. 🤷‍♀️

Flowerchild547 · 21/01/2024 13:02

So I definitely went overboard yesterday. I met two friends who had actually arranged a surprise bottomless brunch! It was so thoughtful of them and rude not to!! So I took full advantage (unfortunately for the scales).
However I was able to wear a pair of trousers that I previously wasn’t able to sit in and they were comfortable all afternoon!
I’m never usually out two weekends in a row so hopefully the next few weekends will be quieter and won’t sabotage my good work in the week so much!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
