January 2024! Fresh start & develop new habits. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Scales STILL showing 11 stone and no loss since 1 Jan, despite my absolute best efforts and not falling off the wagon once!

My friend told me yesterday she’s lost 10lb this year, and she doesn’t even exercise beyond basic walking. So that made me feel even worse.

But I need to remind myself that my overall health will be benefiting from my hugely improved diet and the addition of strength training as well as upping my cardio. Even if the scales aren’t changing. I need to remember that.

Also, I actually don’t feel what my friend is doing is sustainable as sounds like she’s just cut drastically back on calories, which she can do as she’s not exercising. Whereas the exercise side is important to me so I do need some calories to stay strong & active. I’ve totally cut out all the unhealthy calories though (alcohol, soft drinks, processed treats etc etc)

It’s hard but I’m proud of myself despite nothing to show for it in terms of weight and I still have my wobbly fat tummy. Sigh.

imustbepatient · 18/01/2024 09:17

@Whatsgoingonwithmyhead you are definitely taking the right approach. Gutting as it is not to see the hard work show up on the scales, it will appear there in the end, plus you will have a strong, healthy, energised body standing on them. Did you take measurements at the start of your diet and exercise changes?

I know that for me, I can sometimes have periods of not seeing the scales move for quite a while (weight loss lag, basically), but my measurements go down. I sew as a hobby and hence am generally measuring myself for that, and it’s interesting to see how I can lose a chunk off my arms, or waist etc, but the scales haven’t moved. This is all the more so when I’m being a lot more active. The scale loss does come eventually though, but sending you solidarity vibes. Just keep on going, it will pay off for you in more ways than just weight loss.

Whatsgoingonwithmyhead · 18/01/2024 09:25

Thank you @imustbepatient

I started taking measurements last week after getting disheartened by the lack of weight loss

I’ve not measured my thighs, but feel like they are starting to not rub together! And I think maybe my bum looks a bit more pert??

WeirdPookah · 18/01/2024 10:36

@Whatsgoingonwithmyhead you are doing great to keep going when the scale isn't changing. You are smart enough to appreciate the good you ARE definitely doing with the healthy food choices.

So cold here today -4'C
But went for a walk to the shops to get a few things, ended up buying more things than expected, like a super fancy christmas pudding reduced from £11 to £3, so my bag was really heavy.

Got home and felt really dizzy, as in I nearly fell if I hadn't sat on the hall settle quickly. My cat is rushing all around me shouting, she knows something is wrong, which is a bit scary.

Sitting now with a protein shake coffee and had a slice of unbuttered fruit loaf as I think I have over-exerted myself.

PatienceOfEngels · 18/01/2024 10:37

For the week before my period I know I'm going to be craving carbs so plan my shopping list/menu accordingly to make sure I have things like potatoes/sweet potatoes/dark chocolate. I go a bit easier on myself but make sure I'm still eating whole foods by having UPF alternatives available/prepped.

LumionaMoonsplash · 18/01/2024 11:43

I missed the weigh in yesterday but here's today's: SW: 15.0 > CW: 13.9

Finally showing a -1lb progress this week, -2lbs this month. After my strop earlier this week, I had a word with myself and made me more determined to get the number down. I'm listening to loads of inspirational audiobooks and podcasts and also following motivation accounts on Instagram and pinterest which have been incredible for honing my focus and lifting my mood. My productivity at work has gone through the roof, being busier meant I barely ate over the last few days.

In a huge bid to increase steps, I have getting up earlier and leaving for the school run 30mins earlier for a longer dog walk with DD before school. It has been amazing with the beautiful pink and orange sunrises this week and 1 day of lovely snowfall. I have increased my weights at the gym 🏋️‍♀️ too.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 18/01/2024 12:19

Week before I'm due on it's all about meat and chocolate. Could happily chow down on a steak for every meal with chocolate mousse for afters.

I try to prep for it by making sure I have things like beef jerky and the nestle chocolate protein desserts on hand.

Been to Aqua aerobics this morning, new instructor who was very focused on arms so lots of work with the foam dumbbells. Not sure I could lift my arms above my head right now if I needed too, so no reaching for high up stuff 😂

ImALittlePea · 18/01/2024 14:17

Omg. I'm SO flipping hungry. I just want to eat and eat and eat. I'm chugging the water and just making a(nother) tea to try and stave it off 😬🤞 but the last of the salt and vinegar nuts are calling me 😭

So far today I've had my cup-a-soup special for lunch, and I had a little nibble on DD's leftover snack at playgroup (namely half a mini pizza and some fruit; negligible really). And lots of tea and water. The lunch is very standard for me and normally keeps me full until dinner so what is this madness?!

afaloren · 18/01/2024 14:25

@ImALittlePea You’ve had no protein from the sounds of it. That keeps me fuller for longer.

abbs1 · 18/01/2024 14:29

I felt like this the other day and it was because I needed more protein. I upped it the next day and it made such a massive difference to me not needing food all afternoon. I'd been trying to survive on yogurt, mocha, tomato and pepper soup and fruit until tea which didn't work.

ImALittlePea · 18/01/2024 14:47

Quite possibly, although as I say I have this lunch regularly and it normally keeps me more than satiated. It does have some protein in the form of houmous, some cheese (normally a dairylea triangle), plus a mound of veggie and some thin crispbreads, as well as the cup-a-soup itself. Regardless, today it hasn't done the trick, and I ate the nuts 😏

Now I need even more water to flush the salt out 😂

shearwater2 · 18/01/2024 15:17

My filling and palatable low calorie high fibre breakfast (without feeling I'm actually a horse with my bran nose bag) is 45g All Bran, cutted up medium conference pear and a 170g pot of mango Skyr. 16g fibre (over half your daily requirement) and 24g protein, 320 calories.

shearwater2 · 18/01/2024 15:20

I was saving myself for a meal out tonight and someone just brought me a sausage roll on a plate at work. Rude not to eat it!

If I don't lose this week it will be down to work-based sausage roll consumption.

HighlandCowRose · 18/01/2024 17:05

I've been really hungry yesterday and today.
I have a pretty standard breakfast & lunch on weekdays, toast and hummus for breakfast, wholemeal roll with salad and filling, the breakfast and lunch I usually find filling and lunch also has to be super quick between jobs. I've just been so hungry today, it's a later dinner than usual as well due to dd swimming lesson. Only got to cook my rice at least, having left overs from last night.
The one bonus of dh eating differently to me is I don't have to cook the following day.

Whatsgoingonwithmyhead · 18/01/2024 17:36

I’ve also been absolutely starving today. My period has started. I’m on HRT (only started a few months ago) & my cycle is completely irregular.

still, I’ve managed to eat healthy stuff, even if a bit more than normal today.

Exercise today - 1 hour Pilates class. Did my 10,000 steps too

afaloren · 18/01/2024 20:17

Evening. Weigh in tomorrow, fingers crossed.

B - Protein yoghurt, banana
L - Pea and ham soup, clementines
D - Mackerel broccoli and green beans, protein yoghurt
S - 3 babybel lights
E - 2 x dog walk, yoga, cardio at the gym. Was supposed to be step class but I got there and it was cancelled! Quite tempted to just come home but I stuck it out.

I do realise my posts are very samey but I find it so useful to come and be accountable.

HighlandCowRose · 18/01/2024 21:02

Doesn't matter though afaloren I feel my posts are very samey too but like you it makes me accountable knowing I'm going to write on here what I've eaten, I know i could be dishonest after all no one would know but I'm not, I write what I eat.

Speaking of samey, I literally ate the same today as yesterday, except I've resisted the 2nd pack of crisps that I had after posting my food yesterday.

Yesterdays beetroot and mixed bean stir fry kept and reheated better than expected, yay for little wins.

HighlandCowRose · 18/01/2024 21:13

Sorry afaloren, I meant to say, whatever works for you, keep doing it. I started rambling and forgot what I meant to post

Well done for staying and working out, a class being cancelled is really annoying once you've made the effort to go.

afaloren · 18/01/2024 21:26

Thanks @HighlandCowRose it was annoying. They had replaced it with a different class that isn’t suitable for me so I hopped on the treadmill and cross trainer. I did have a message saying it’s definitely on next week though.

ImALittlePea · 19/01/2024 09:37

Well, I shouldn't have eaten the nuts 😏 up over 1lb this week and back into the 10s.

On reflection, I've slipped up a lot more than I thought this week; dinner out Monday, unplanned-for mindless grazing at work, more snacks - it's clearly all added up..

Not going to allow it to phase or derail me. I have just over two months until my birthday, and we all know it isn't linear, so longer term focus and some perhaps better planning needed for the next few weeks to get back on track.

ONWARDS AND INWARDS!

Whatsgoingonwithmyhead · 19/01/2024 09:41

I’m still 11 stone !!

Did Pilates last night then ate scrambled eggs and avocado on brown sourdough for dinner

Today I started with my usual porridge and fresh berries. Will have a banana and a handful of nuts then once digested head out for a run - not decided on length yet will see how I feel once I start moving! But between 5-10km

I really related to the latest episode of Dr Chatterjee’s podcast with Dr Lyon on strength training where she said don’t set goals (eg a target weight) but rather to instil certain lifestyle changes / actions and commit to living a certain way. That really struck a chord with me.

afaloren · 19/01/2024 09:45

WOF. 2.5 off which I’m very pleased with.

This week - 2.5lb
Since Jan 1 - 8.5lb
Since heaviest weight - 100lb Grin

MrsPepperpotty · 19/01/2024 10:15

Wow @afaloren you've lost 100lb? Amazing!!!

rainbow616 · 19/01/2024 10:21

Morning everyone, I lost 1 1/2lbs this week, not bad but I need to get out and start walking more, which is difficult when I'm sat down at work most of the day! I've bought one of those under the desk exercise bikes so I'll get that started next week and see if there's any benefit!

WeirdPookah · 19/01/2024 10:40

I lost 3lbs this week!

17.7lbs down since Jan 1st
59.6lbs down total

I'm glad it's warmer today. I ended up feeling better after eating something yesterday. I over-exerted myself.

Yesterday
B: Black soy bean burrito with pumpkin paste
L: Butternut Nutbutter curry on broccoli
D: Roast peppers, courgette, tomatoes, butternut, feta
protein yogurt for snack, and slice of fruit loaf as I obviously needed something.

Today:
B: prune and cocoa porridge with little cashew butter
L: eggs with peppers and tomatoes
D: mashed swede/carrot, veggie meatballs, red cabbage.
