January 2024! Fresh start & develop new habits. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Lost 2lb this week which I’m happy with. I’ve had bigger losses in previous weeks but I knew this week wasn’t going to be as strong.

Well done to everyone for sticking with it.

SW: 17st 10
CW: 17st 1
TW: 10st 10

Total loss: 9lbs

imustbepatient · 17/01/2024 10:53

Well done everyone on all the weigh ins! Some brilliant losses there, esp in this freezing weather with the comfort food calling.

The scales have gone down for me today too, but I take my weight for the weeks as Fri / Sat’s weigh in so will wait till then.

Meantime I’m just trying to keep warm whilst the builders in the house are having to go in and out constantly so the door is always open. Brrr, but hopefully it forces me to burn more calories! 😂

@afaloren I have been using my Velvetiser to make my semi-skimmed milk and choc shot version of hot chocolate, which makes it taste nicer, if you have tried that?

talkingdeadscot · 17/01/2024 11:14

SW (June 2023) - 93kg
First Goal - 72kg (achieved Christmas 2023)
CW - 70kg
GW - 55kg

A loss of 0.2kg this week. Very little but if it's one thing I have learnt it's that weight loss isn't linear. Just keep plodding!

I've been having the most ridiculous debate with myself this week. I have a pair of black jeans that were the only thing that 'fit' me when I was at my heaviest. When I say 'fit' me, I could wear them if I fastened them with an elastic band because I couldn't do up the button or zip. It's ludicrous but even though they're hanging off me now I just can't throw them out. I've sold on a lot of clothes to buy new ones, I've binned clothes and charity shopped them but it feels like binning this one pair of jeans is a step too far. I think I'm worried I'll have nothing to wear if I throw them, or maybe I don't believe I won't get fat again. The stupid games our minds play with us. I don't even see a slimmer me when I look in the mirror, eurgh.

afaloren · 17/01/2024 11:38

Ooh thanks @imustbepatient maybe I’ll take the plunge!

Congrats to all seeing losses on WOW and commiserations to those who didn’t see the results they were hoping for. Keep plodding on. It’ll happen.

Spudlover · 17/01/2024 12:03

Well done to all, lose or gain. I think this is a tough spot on our journeys, we have lost some of the enthusiasm of New Year, but the freedom and excess of Christmas is still a bit too recent 😆

Took my eye off the ball a bit this week and as a result have stayed the same. Exercise has been on plan but I have let far too much sugar creep in and the more I have, the more I want. I haven’t been posting regularly either and that does help me.

Stayed the same this week - although I’m going to mark it as a gain. I have new scales and they weigh me as 3lbs heavier. I know they are more accurate as I calibrated them with a kettlebell so I’m just going to take the hit. Dammit. May as well add those 3 to my start weight though!

SW: 187lb
CW: 166
GW: 140

Returning to reduced carb and no sugar.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/01/2024 13:03

To @PatienceOfEngels that's useful to know. I refuse to have 'low fat' anything, I'd rather just have a bi less.

No movement for me on the scales this week. But although I pretty much kept in my calorie goals for the week, I had 4 meals out, slightly more alcohol than I meant to and didn't fit in much cardio or walking so I'm ok with that.

Congratulations to those with losses, and virtual encouragement to those with gains!

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 17/01/2024 13:16

Just put down a deposit on a new bathroom so that's the diet sorted, we'll only be able to afford beans on toast for the rest of the year.

Ok it's not really that bad but it is an amount that makes me gulp a bit when I think about it. Im not good with spending big amounts of money all at once but the bathroom is absolutely awful, last done about 30 years ago by the previous owner who had no discernible taste or DIY skills so we've been making do with just a bath and sink for years. Gonna get a lovely shower and white suite and it will be so so much nicer.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/01/2024 13:21

Oh that will be so much nice @FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain !

ImALittlePea · 17/01/2024 14:14

Thank you everyone for the love and support. In the grand scheme of things I know this development doesn't really 'matter' - it doesn't change him, and may allow us to access some additional support for him. It has just taken some time to process as we really weren't expecting it. I have spoken to his school and going to have another chat with both sets of professionals to try and understand the huge discrepancy in the scoring, as it's just left me not really trusting either assessment and outcome. Ultimately, if the feeling is he needs a diagnosis then we can move forward, learn more and hopefully it'll help him long term - I know a few adults with a similar experience to yours @WeirdPookah and I don't want that to be his too, especially if it doesn't need to be.

Anyway. I did go for a burger Monday night... And a glass of wine 😬 but just one, and no pudding.

Yesterday:
L - cup-a-soup special!
D - homemade toad in the hole and lots and lots of veg. Followed by greek yoghurt and pomegranate seeds.
S - a few squares of mini egg chocolate and a cuppa in the evening

Today:
L - 1/2 carton chunky veg soup, 3 crispbreads. Greek yoghurt and pomegranate seeds. Also had a small.bag of tangy tom crisps, only 57nl calories though
D - baked potato, cheese omelette, large side salad

Working tonight so eating window will be a short one today, although I'll probably have a coffee before the evening rush.

Well done to all of your wonderful, inspirational WoWers! I'll be reporting back on Friday with mine - not feeling particularly confident 🤦‍♀️

Sorry I haven't managed to catch up personally with all the posts but rest assured I'm here and cheering everyone on through triumphs and struggles alike.

@TheRealHousewife I hope you're feeling a bit better now?

Spudlover · 17/01/2024 15:53

Lots of love @ImALittlePea. This was us a few years ago but it set us on a pathway to much better support. Good luck with it.

ChickenChipsandBeans · 17/01/2024 17:12

The sun came out today which was very nice after a full day of rain yesterday. Managed to lose 1.7kg since last Wednesday which I am over the moon about. I never lose so much in a week, so it's very nice. I did have a biscuit binge but recouped that disaster with a few IF days. Sorry to hear what some of us are going through and sending hugs to those who need it. Food today:
Meal 1 Eggs on toast
Meal 2 Turkish börek
Snack mandarins and homemade oat bars

The börek is made from filo pastry and filled with lots of different green leafy veg eg. Spring onions dill, parsley, spinach, nettles to name a few and a little crumbly white cheese. You then baste it in a yoghurt and olive oil mixture and cook in the oven. Full of goodness, but not a favourite with the kids as you can imagine.
SW (Oct.23) 82.2kg
This thread 74.4kg
CW 71.6kg
TW 60kg

Whatsgoingonwithmyhead · 17/01/2024 18:09

Scales still firmly at my 1 January weight of 11 stone!!

Today - exercise = 1 hour Pilates class and 15,000 step hilly hike

Food -
B - porridge with fresh berries and chia seeds

snack - banana & a few nuts

lunch - was out for lunch so had a vegetarian all-day breakfast (was in a healthy food type place, not a greasy spoon so all quite healthy)

snack - a very tiny homemade cupcake as baking with DC

Dinner will be a piece of fresh salmon with vegetables

Penguinmouse · 17/01/2024 19:44

Went on holiday to an all-inclusive resort but took my gym and swimming gear and got three sessions in. I’ve come back and dropped 1.2kg since I weighed before my holiday. I haven’t had a takeaway this month which is a really big achievement for me and my husband (we live near a big shopping centre in London so have a lot of options available and can fall to temptation quite easily)

Stripyunicorn · 17/01/2024 20:18

SW 13 stone 2 (1st Jan)
CW 12 stone 5.8
GW 10 stone 7
Loss so far 10.2lb

As of today I'm officially overweight rather than obese, so quite pleased with that. I also noticed last night that my waist is starting to come back, I'm getting a noticeable curve back between my bust and hips.

I go away in 20 weeks, so hopefully I can lose a decent chunk of the weight by then so my summer clothes fit better! Can't really afford to replace them all with bigger sizes.

Well done to everyone losing too, some big losses so far. And everyone not showing a loss yet, I'm sure there's a whoosh coming.

HighlandCowRose · 17/01/2024 20:36

Well done on the losses and keep going to those who didn't see the result they wanted.

Forgot to put my watch on this morning, I know it doesn't matter but annoying not having the days activity showing.

B seeded toast and hummus, banana
L sweet potato pakora roll, banana
D beetroot and mixed bean teriyaki stir fry with rice
S crisps and a glass of wine

afaloren · 17/01/2024 21:36

Ooh @HighlandCowRose how annoying, if I don’t record something on my watch I feel it doesn't count!

B - Banana, protein yoghurt
L - Pea and ham soup, clementines
D - Salmon and spinach fishcake with sugar snap peas, protein yoghurt

Snack: 3 babybel lights

Exercise: 2 x dog walk, yoga, cardio session at the gym.

Back on plan today.

LegoTherapy · 17/01/2024 21:40

@HighlandCowRose it's so annoying when that happens!

EndlessGuineaPigCycle · 17/01/2024 21:44

Urggh, had a very emotionally draining day today and very much ate my feelings this evening. Ho hum, back on it tomorrow

HighlandCowRose · 17/01/2024 22:08

afaloren & LegoTherapy I know right, it's ridiculous cause regardless the steps activity happened but I need to see them logged.

EndlessGuineaPigCycle hope you're OK ❤

So much inspiration on here!

im trying to lose my last 6-8 pounds and finding it so hard. Im 65kg and want to be at least down to 62kg. The lowest I’ve ever got to is 63kg. I’m 5’4.

my problem is I can stay in a calorie defect for about three weeks then my period comes and during my pms my cravings are mental. Combined with being on a calorie deficit it’s the perfect storm. I’ve tried so many different things - matcha, mindfulness, walks, classes etc. I really feel like my hormones screw up my progress.

any tips plz? 🙏🏻

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/01/2024 22:25

Congratulations @Stripyunicorn !

No tips on beating the pmt cravings @Chattycatt I was always the same. Make sure you have plenty of protein those days to fill you up? Pre-pate some healthier treats?

I'm feeling very bloated, so suspect a period is on its way (menopausal, so never sure when they're round the corner - though the bonus is they are now less frequent)

Today's menu

B - boring boiled egg and toast
L - red pepper soup, humous & falafel
D - turkey winter ragu recipe (batch cooked at Christmas, with mash and green beans
S - caramel wafer
Exercise- none 😳 Was about to then a friend called for a natter.

ThreeRingCircus · 17/01/2024 22:52

Just recording my WoW, only a 1lb loss this week but it's still a loss I suppose, especially as I took my eye off the ball at the weekend.

SW: 15st 1lb
CW: 14st 7lb

My goal is 11st eventually but I'm celebrating each half stone as I go.

I had a rough day at work today and got home late so just wanted wine and a takeaway but I stayed on track and I feel so much better for doing so.

B - just coffee. I meant to grab some fruit in the office as we normally get it free but the delivery hadn't arrived! 😔

L - sweet potato and coconut soup

D - spicy miso noodles with loads of coriander and spring onions.

I had a glass of kombucha instead of alcohol.

Keep going everyone!

I struggle with this sometimes, I often have painful periods as well so I sometimes make excuses and tell myself I deserve it. Last time I was on my period I was at someone’ house and apart from krispy kreme they didn’t have much unhealthy things in. I think limiting what you have in your house when your period due is good and also preparing for the craving eg. Making sure you have things like protein Greek yoghurt, dark chocolate, potatoes, berries and avocado in your house. These are all things which feel quite satiating but are much healthier than say the takeaways, giant bags of popcorn , jumbo cookies and tubs of ice cream that I’d inhale.

I also find eating something slightly sweet for breakfast is good for reducing cravings like creamy oats with honey & fruit or chocolate chia pudding or a smoothie. If I consume more healthy sweet stuff it means I’m less likely to crave a chocolate bar or pastry in the afternoon.

ThreeRingCircus · 18/01/2024 07:47

Something that really helps me is taking an iron supplement for one week a month just before I'm due on and throughout my period. It seems to help me feel less drained and rubbish and therefore less likely to snack.

ImALittlePea · 18/01/2024 08:01

@ThreeRingCircus oh well done for sticking with your intentions! Especially hard after a rough day 💪👏
