January 2024! Fresh start & develop new habits. Join-in to reset & refresh and become a healthier version of yourself. These threads are for those who’d like to lose and those who wish to maintain whilst eating a healthy varied diet.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and eat twice a day. Im a long time healthy eater and overall I’ve lost over 3 stone. After having been on the wrong side of 12st Im now hovering around 9st. I had a blip a couple of years ago when my thyroid went wonky but now back on track.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Well done to those who’ve lost.
To those who haven’t, I hope you aren’t disheartened. I’ve been listening to a lot of things and they were saying that one of the hardest parts to weight loss is to keep going even when you haven’t got the result you want. I will admit that is something I struggle with.
I’m not looking forward to WOW. I had a meal out on the weekend and lots of alcohol. I’ve also been a bit lax as it’s been my birthday. I’m hoping though that I’ve managed to balance that out with better choices elsewhere and getting some steps in. We’ll see.

shearwater2 · 16/01/2024 09:50

Supposed to be doing a 5:2 fast day and have consumed 800 calories already- woo!

It's too cold to stave myself, -6C when I left for work.

I won't eat until this evening now though and will just have something light. I really needed that sausage butty this morning though.

Stripyunicorn · 16/01/2024 10:28

@shearwater2 it's so cold isn't it!
I work from home, and I'm literally working with gloves on and a blanket over my legs.
I usually weigh myself daily to get an idea of trends and normal fluctuations but I didn't bother this morning, it was too cold to be naked in the bathroom!!

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 16/01/2024 10:36

They're saying -6 overnight here tomorrow night, I'm just not up for that at all!

Still feeling ill, have my heated blanket on while I sit trying to work through it at my desk in the corner of the living room.

Weighed in at 217 lb this morning but have gone down from 217.5 to 216.9 (I always round to nearest whole number) so still heading in the right direction.

WeirdPookah · 16/01/2024 12:19

@ImALittlePea From the perspective of a late diagnosed Autistic, I would have loved to have been given answers at a much younger age. It's given me a lot of grief over the "what-if's". It might be unexpected, but it will be a good thing in the long term, to be able to understand more and hopefully access relevant support.

It's miserably cold. It snowed this morning, but now it's raining and 40mph+ winds and 1'C. Really not looking forward to the school pick up.

Did a 20 minute Joe Wicks Tabata workout, didn't have time to think that I didn't actually feel like doing it!

Yesterday:
B: black bean burrito with pumpkin seed paste
L: fried eggs, cabbage, leek, hot sauce
D: mango almond korma, cauliflower

Today:
B: same
L: steamed cabbage, mushroom and sauerkraut pierogi, mustard
D: minestrone, chicken, pesto

TheRealHousewife · 08/01/2024 10:50

I totally agree @ImALittlePea @Frozenfjords Lack of sleep totally sabotages our best intentions due to the disruption to our hormones.

Sleep Deprivation, Calorie Consumption & Disrupted Hormones

Just catching up on posts I’ve missed on this thread and wanting to chime in late about sleep - I had bad insomnia for years around the start of the pandemic and this had a massive impact on my cravings and weight gain.

I’d be too tired to exercise or cook so it would be takeaways & highly processed food while WFH. I now engage in low-moderate intensity exercise 1-2 hours a day, less to burn calories and more to give me a good sleep because I know making healthy choices with food just goes out the window if I’m sleep deprived for too many nights in a row.

Make sure you get your sleep if you can!

Whatsgoingonwithmyhead · 16/01/2024 13:04

Today so far

(scales still saying I haven’t lost anything since 1 Jan btw!!)

exercise - 10k run
Will go to Pilates class tonight

Food -
B - porridge with fresh berries
Snack - banana
Lunch - jacket potato with cheese, tuna and salad

Water - filled my 600ml bottle 4 times

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 16/01/2024 13:21

Completely get that @Whatsgoingonwithmyhead - you've done brilliantly in cutting all that out. I hope the scales reward you soon!

I was 1/2 lb heavier than my last WOW so am upping the water today to see if that helps. I'd like to be at least where I was last week.

I was reading something about fibre yesterday, and how getting enough can help with weight loss as it makes you feel fuller for longer. Not sure if that's just another theory, but I did look at my intake on nutracheck, and I definitely don't get anywhere near the recommended amount, so I might look at trying to improve that.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 16/01/2024 13:24

Oh, today's menu....

B - the usual boiled egg & toast
L - home made red pepper soup, 2 falafels, tablespoon of humous, apple
D - dirty macaroni (pinch of nom recipe)
S - none so far!
Exercise - will try to do a bodycombat class tonight but we have parents evening so may be tricky to fit in after I've allowed time for dinner to digest.

LegoTherapy · 16/01/2024 17:01

Dreading weigh in tomorrow. I was 55kg and now I'm 57kg. Soup for dinner again tonight but nigella's sunshine soup this time. I know it's harder to shift the last few pounds but I really want to get back to the 55kg bracket.

I've been cold all day and just want to go to bed but I think I'll bounce on my bell and watch tv once ds has gone to bed at 7. Help work off the 2 Tunnocks I needed today due to snow related trauma where I've witnessed a crash and seen the result of car+snow+hill+fence+bollard+tree don't mix. Luckily the friends involved are ok but it wasn't nice.

HighlandCowRose · 16/01/2024 19:29

LegoTherapy sorry to hear about your friends, glad they're OK.

Bought myself a couple of pairs of trousers in the sale that are a size too small, I can squeeze into them but very uncomfortably.
Also bought a lovely dress in tk maxx, it was an impulse buy, it fits now but its a stretch fabric so should size down a little with me.
It was surprisingly flattering.

B seeded toast with hummus & a banana
L butternut, tomato & basil roll
D steamed veg with lady nights dahl
S crisps & a glass of wine

afaloren · 16/01/2024 23:41

Hi everyone. Dinner at a friends’ house this evening so I had a couple of treats. Life’s too short not to!

B - Dried apricots, protein yoghurt
L - Lentil and bacon soup, two clementines
D - A glass of Schloer, Greek-style
pork stew with rice, and a delicious Velvetiser hazelnut hot chocolate. Rather puts my skimmed milk/Choc Shot concoction to shame!

Snack: 3 babybel lights

Exercise: 2 x dog walks, yoga, weights at the gym.

afaloren · 16/01/2024 23:42

Oh, we also agreed to go away to Europe somewhere for the weekend at the end of April so the race is on to lose as much as possible before then!

Sunshineofyourlove · 17/01/2024 06:39

Brrrrr.....managed to get naked on the scales this morning despite it being at least -7 outside and the heating hasn't come on yet!

1lb down on last week, had a dodgy weekend, but yesterday's mini fast day helped.

ItsTapasTime · 17/01/2024 06:55

Morning!
Here’s my weekly check-in (accountability check-in!)

SW 74kg
CW 72.4kg
TW not sure. I want to be a small size 12, so whatever weight that is.

Weight loss this week 1kg

Still doing dry January and 5:2. Upped my exercise classes to 3 per week. Still not eating enough fruit and veg. I only want comfort foods as it’s so cold.
Onwards and downwards.
See you next week 😀

PatienceOfEngels · 17/01/2024 07:00

SW 77kg (beginning October 2023)
CW 69.8kg
Interim GW 68kg
GW 63kg

WOW -0.8kg this week. Shifting the 2 household birthdays weight from the last 2 weeks! Now below my pre-Christmas WOW if 70kg.

Getting closer to my interim goal of a healthy BMI.

B - boiled egg, rye toast, butter, coffee
L - leftover lasagne (mostly sauce and no pasta so added a slice of rye bread with it).
D- ?? DH is cooking tonight. Likely chicken or lamb curry out the freezer or soup.
S - whatever fruit is on offer at school, plus greek yoghurt with honey.

@LegoTherapy sunshine soup sounds lovely. will look it up. Hope your friends are okay - not looking forward to my commute as it's going to be icy this morning.

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo more fibre is definitely helpful! I now eat a denser bread for my toast in the morning (a rye/wholewheat combo) and one slice fills me up. If I have the normal wholewheat bread (or worse white) I have to eat more to feel as full. I'm still hungry with one slice only. So, slightly more calories, but better! (this is also why I don't like calorie counting...I'd rather flll myself up with Greek yoghurt than have a diet/flavoured version with less fat/fibre that doesn't fill me up).

Haven'r scrolled back any more to catch up as need to get off to work!

Have a good day everyone

LemonDrizzle23 · 17/01/2024 07:24

Chilly WOW this morning. I'm keeping my pj vest on at the moment as can't face a naked weigh in 😂

0.5kg lost which takes me back to a mid December low. So:

SW: 97.5
CW: 95
5%: 92.5

1km swim went well on Monday, although I was feeling it in the shoulders yesterday! Another 1km is the aim today.

Food I'm not sure as going to a friends for lunch, but dinner will be honey soy pork mince with rice and some kind of veg.

Good luck to everyone weighing.

LegoTherapy · 17/01/2024 07:43

Morning all and well done on the losses. WOW of 56.2kg this morning and I'm happy with that as expected it to be in the 57s.
It's foggy and icy here and I'm not looking forward to the school run after yesterday's accidents. It's minus 3 outside which isn't too bad except for the icy hills. School have decided they will open though 🤷🏼‍♀️

buzzofthebumblebee · 17/01/2024 08:15

SW 12 0 (1/1/24)
CW 11 10.5
TW 11 2

WOW this week saw loss 1.5 lbs. I did weigh 11 10 yesterday, so have inexplicably gained 1/2 lb overnight. Extra water today (probably in form of hot teas).

Kazziek · 17/01/2024 08:39

My first WoW of 2024
SW 86.5
GW 80.0

MrsPepperpotty · 17/01/2024 08:42

WoW today:
SW 15st 4
CW 14st 11
GW 11st 11
Loss this week 2lb

NothingTraLaLa · 17/01/2024 08:43

Well done to everyone who is sticking with it, whether the scales are being kind or not.

I’ve almost shed the Christmas poundage now, and I’m feeling fairly happy with my diet and progress. I’m still concentrating on slow weight loss with a style of eating I can maintain long term rather than anything drastic that I can’t. I renewed my Zoe subscription which is keeping me accountable and encouraging me to eat (much) more fibre!

SW 128 lb
CW 117.2 lb
TW 114 lb

EndlessGuineaPigCycle · 17/01/2024 09:30

WoW today

0.9kg loss this week, I'm pleased with that especially as I had a mini binge on Sunday plus it's my time of the month

SW 81.2 kg
CW 77.7 kg
Interim goal 77 kg
GW tbd

Well done everyone on your losses and perseverance even when the scales aren't on your side 💪

Newname2308 · 17/01/2024 10:15

SW 70kg
WoW 17/1 63.6kg
Waist still 31in
CW 56kg (but 60kg first 👍)

Slow and steady - overall down 0.5kg since last WoW. But I haven’t yet shifted the Xmas bloated feeling, so that’s something to think about. I felt leaner pre-Xmas at this weight. I think I need to move more, but I’m fully in the mid-January can’t be bothered stage 😩

WeirdPookah · 17/01/2024 10:32

Oh my it is COLD. I used the water from last nights hot water bottles to clean the car, then watched it freeze into beautiful frost ferns across the windows making it worse that before!
No more snow, it's a glorious day, I went for an hours walk, could see snow on the Peak District mountains and in Wales. The view looked like a painting with peach and pink behind the snow covered mountains over the sea.

I'm going to weigh in Friday, so well done to everybody's hard work this week!

B: black soya bean burrito with pumpkin seed paste
L: minestrone
D: fishfingers, 50/50 cauliflower/potato mash, peas, mushypeas
