I picked up my first box today. It's sat in the fridge. I need to pluck up the courage to take it now...

Lovesthebeach · 06/12/2023 22:32

Wow I couldn’t agree with you all more….although, it is also frustrating that we are having to pay so much money to get this life changing medicine 🫤

It blows my mind how I’ve stopped binge eating and when I’m full I actually stop…. Don’t get me wrong I’ve still had some chocolate but I’d finish a whole sharing bag whereas now I’d just have a few and feel satisfied…. I can’t remember feeling that my whole adult life… I bloody love food lol!

@justsaxy i was nervous when I started and delayed a week… I wish I’d done it sooner!

Crazymadchickenlady · 06/12/2023 22:32

Went to order my next pen and there was a new kind of pen coming out which was more effective than Wegovy in the tests. It had prices to be confirmed on pharmacy2u. Mounjaro was the name!

SailorGeri · 06/12/2023 23:37

@Crazymadchickenlady my colleague in the US took Mounjaro for a while this year and lost about 40lbs.

AhBiscuits · 07/12/2023 07:12

Yes I've been reading about mounjaro. Great that the help available with weight loss seems to be improving.

justsaxy · 07/12/2023 07:56

I took it last night before I went to sleep, and so far so good.

It was much easier than I expected. Am drinking lots of water.

I hid it in the back of the fridge but DH found it immediately Blush so not as private as I thought

AhBiscuits · 07/12/2023 08:08

Mine is in a paper bag with a sticker saying Brown Onions. No chance he'll look in there.

Crazymadchickenlady · 07/12/2023 08:28

Mine‘s in a fridge at work but the onion trick sounds good for over Xmas

Haha I love that! I wrapped it in foil, but apparently he thought it was biscuits? 🐽

I'm coming up to the end of week 3. I haven't had any nausea or diarrhoea at all.

The first shot was immediately effective until about Thursday (I take it Saturday). I did keep yawning at work from Monday to Wednesday. Lost 2lbs but I had given blood the night before starting which would have been replenishing over the week, so I count that as an invisible third ;)

Found week 2 disappointing and was hungry a lot. It didn't help that on the times when I genuinely didn't feel hungry, i had some heavy food events to get through - team lunch out, wine night with takeaway, a conference with catered meals and DH asking me to cook his favourite foods at the weekend. Lost 1lb. Social eating is definitely my hardest habit to break. I end up going to lunch with a colleague regularly and it's hard to say no even when I'm not really hungry, but I end up steering us to a salad bar!

Week 3 is a bit more effective and feel less hungry. The downside is, my in-laws have been sending us hampers and there is chocolate EVERYWHERE, as well as lots of festive baking at work. I don't feel hungry enough for a meal but I'm not above a bit of chocolate as an easy snack instead. Fortunately I can stop at one piece of chocolate now instead of needing to go back - I've made a packet of toblerone last nearly two weeks. We had a fancy meal out planned this weekend which is now cancelled, which is a relief to me and a huge disappointment to DH.

Due to move up to 0.5 next weekend, so I'm slightly worried about how I'll get through cooking and hosting Christmas dinner if it's more of an impact!

MorphandMindy · 07/12/2023 09:40

Also I know exactly what you mean @FiveCows and @Annwithout - realising that all that is missing is a physical trigger because of a chemical deficit, and it's not a lifelong moral failure that I should beat myself up over, has been equally upsetting and infuriating.

Thinking about it makes me upset for all the years of feeling like a failure, when it wasn't really my fault. I wonder what has triggered this food noise in us? Has anyone found a way to make it go away without Wegovy?
I didn't realise how much noise there was until Wegovy muted it.
I absolutely love what Wegovy does to my brain, but I can't afford this long term and worry what will happen eventually. I can only hope that with the realisation that it's not "me" with the problem, but my brain, I can put something in place to cope with life after. Either that, or it becomes available to more of us on the NHS, it must surely be cost effective with all the long term health benefits of not being obese. Maybe they can come up with a different drug that has the same effect on the brain but costs a lot less 🤔Apologies for my ramblings

AhBiscuits · 07/12/2023 11:36

I think eventually they will. The drugs are improving all the time and I see the future of weight management being a simple injection rather than surgery.
I think my long term plan is just to try and continue the exact same diet off wegovy as when on it and accept the fact that there will be hunger that I need to be strong enough to ignore.

This is almost exactly the same as me - same injection day. Same hunger returns day. Same week 3 easier than week 2 which was harder than week 1! Weird

MorphandMindy · 07/12/2023 13:25

Great @OhpoorMe - I have a body twin! Looking forward to hearing how you get on, too!

Gingerlygreen · 07/12/2023 14:03

It's really resonated with me what some people have said about feeling like a failure because of not being able to resist food, it's an addiction and it's made me realise how easy it is to lose weight by eating less when my body isn't constantly screaming for the next food fix.

Before this I'd nearly given up and accepted that I was going to be trapped inside a fat body and bloody miserable because I just couldn't stop snacking.
I do hope it eventually becomes affordable, I feel guilty spending this money on myself and have decided to do it for 6 months and hope I can maintain my weight afterwards.

@AhBiscuits this made me chuckle. I might label mine "brussel sprouts" 🤣

NotToYou · 07/12/2023 16:17

Has anyone found that they can't tolerate fizzy drinks any more? I've been on 0.25 for almost 4 weeks now, had a lemonade last night for the first time since starting and I was up half the night with awful gas pains and running to the loo. Coincidence or was it the drink causing it?

I definitely haven't WANTED any. I used to have a Coke Zero every day with lunch, I've maybe had one or two in the last 20 days. It's much easier and more appealing to drink water.

FiveCows · 07/12/2023 17:04

Same. My Pepsi Max habit has disappeared.

Annwithout · 07/12/2023 17:29

Most odd. I'm fine with Kombucha, but can't face my usual Pepsi Max.
I have no desire for alcohol either on the days the jab's working 🤔

221BBakerSt · 07/12/2023 17:52

I can’t believe how unhungry I am even though it’s TOTM. I’m drinking plenty of water but have no interest in food whatsoever and am just consuming minimum for fuel. Brain feels far more peaceful without all the food thoughts.

JennyBeanR · 07/12/2023 19:30

I'm halfway through my third week on .25 and I've lost 9lbs! I've had the odd hungry day but for the most part it's manageable.
As for fizzy drinks, I've been having loads of sparkling water and still drink diet coke. I've noticed that on some days I crave sugar intensely though, which I've been satisfying by having the odd piece of chocolate or a glass of orange juice.

The main really bad side effect is fatigue. I've felt like I've had no energy most days, despite getting a full nights sleep. It feels similar to anaemia.

Annwithout · 07/12/2023 20:35

Anyone else feeling the cold?
It just occurred to me it could be the jabs but I keep turning the heating up and still can't get warm.

justsaxy · 07/12/2023 21:12

So the first 24 hours have passed uneventfully, and I didn't tuck into a single biscuit! (At work there are always loads of sweets, haribos and chocolate biscuits right next to the kettle, and that has become a bit of a bad habit).

I ate 2 normal sized meals (I have been trying to eat the glucose goddess way) and whereas normally after lunch, I have (half a packet) some biscuits, I didn't feel the sugar craving today. So am counting that as a huge success.

Tonight I am baking gingerbread for an upcoming event, and I nibbled on a tiny bit, but it didn't bring me any pleasure. Which is wonderful. (Normally I would have been testing each batch as I go).

Drinking water as well.

Am so relieved. I was so very nervous about starting!
